We'll do the poll now before the season starts and again around Christmas shall we??

I'm going for 2nd.

Micalijo - shall I put you down for lower than 9th :)

Poll closes next Friday

I think we'll be 10th or even lower.

I watched Notts County recently and I think we'll be lucky to get ANYTHING out of the first game, and it'll be downwards from there.

I'm ususally a Happy Clapper, but this season I see nothing positive, except I don't think we'll get relegated. I hope!

This is the first season that I can remember where I'm genuinely hopeful about our chances. I think the players who have been brought in are at the right stage in their careers to want to do well for the club - much more than the journeymen we've relied on in the past 5 years.

I'm also glad that at last we've got a manager who seems to have noticed the subtle changes in the game over the last 10 years.

I know that as a Blade I'm more than likely to end the season with the same sense of disappointment as usual but right now I've gone for 1st :)

Oh, and we'll beat Notts County. 2-0.

4th. Slow start, gather momentum as the new year approaches and lose the play off final.

We've only been promoted once in the last 20 years.

There's no good reason to think this season will be any different.

Having a go on one of these before 1st Feb re-defines madness.

I fear our race maybe run Soots, but at least we've bowed out on top.

Think we will be leading for much of the season, there or thereabouts at Christmas once again and much like when we went up to the Prem, we will graze it by two points come the last day, three points behind some unlikely shower of shit like MK Dons or Swindon or summat.

pommpey

26 votes for automatic promotion already! Wow.

I'm voting 8th because hey, when you have no idea what to do, go with tradition.

1st. Always think we will do well (then I see us play)

I would like to think that we are probably better equipped now overall than in our previous two efforts and lets be fair we cam pretty damn close in those so hopefully we can go better this time.

Younger, more hungry players out to impress.

Probably the best technical management team that we have had in recent years.

A player condition specialist who hopefully will keep our team in top nick thus eliminating injuries and increasing overall fitness.

Natural wide men, can't remember the last time we had these but we have pacey wingers who can run at full backs and get the ball in the box.

And finally our overall midfield options now are probably the best we have had in this league with multiple attacking options in midfield.

Ever the optimistic but I think were equipped to go pretty well, if we are better equipped than in our previous 2 campaigns obviously minus a welsh striker who I won't name but never the less we are good to go.

Automatic has to be a target therefore 2nd.

I voted for the 2nd 8th. Not sure we're quite good enough to get the first one.

Think somewhere between 5th and 10th is nailed on.

Been surprised at so much optimism over few months. Yes, as many know I am a half empty kind of guy as my reports often testify (usually right sadly by inordinate amount of cock ups we have had over the years)!

I see a much stronger division with teams such as Brentford, Bristol City, Wolves, Peterboro, Preston (compare all of these squads to ours - seriously and mainly goalscorers they have) etc possessing much more quality, depth and most of all genuine goal scoring threats than us. The teams that just missed the playoffs last year Orient, Walsall etc will be much lower down and I do not see any Bury's/Hartlepool's. Even the 4 coming up will be stronger than those that went down. Think Bradford and Rotherham both will do quite well.

Weir has talked a good game and like his innovative approach. Hopefully he will make a top manager but it his very first job and very few managers take teams up in their first job. He will make mistakes as he is learning on the trade. Experienced campaigners like Jackett, Ferguson, Grayson, O'Driscoll all have been there and done it and have proven records at these levels. I think he was the right appointment and will bring freshness and something new hopefully but it is not going to be easy.

The squad is the worst of the 3 we have had in the 3 seasons down here in my opinion with a lot of question marks and a lot of deadwood still here. We don't have the striking options or goals (Porter! Say no more - Taylor unproven - Miller decent but injured) and still lack creativity for me. We are still crying out for a top striker.

The defence will be ok again although worrying he seems to like Westlake and Williams (who when real business starts will prove they are not good enough) but most of the signings are cheap players that are unproven really. That is not to say I admire the stance; think it is much better going for younger, cheaper (wages) and hopefully hungrier players but the fact not many wanted many of these players suggest they wont all work out. If 1 or 2 of the 7 signings become established first teamers and do well, then we have to be pleased but they are all low cost and many have had a lot of clubs for players so young. However they are low risk. Much rather that than Kitson/Robson etc which drains so much money and no chance for them to improve.

However with a relatively young spine and the loss of goals (Blackman, Kitson) I think it will be a transitional season. I am surprised many think we will go up automatic. Really I am. The best I can see with things coming off is maybe lower end of playoffs - 8th place. Realistically I reckon middle of the road. Hope I am wrong.

Each to their own, but I feel much more optimistic this season than I did in any of the previous 3 seasons.

It feels as though Weir has reshaped the squad in the way most fans were hoping for 2 years ago.

I guess we'll find out soon whether Weir's got it right, but I'm fully behind him. I don't see anything special in most of the other squads, although you would expect Wolves to have the financial clout to make an impact.

I feel the optimism is largely down to us not selling anybody (yet?) and signing a few decent looking players. Trouble is the squad is still worlds away from what Wolves and Brentford in particular have at their disposal. A play off place would be a good achievement, being realistic.
