Not particularly cheap at 20 quid but well worth it in my opinion!

Now, if any of you wanted hard evidence of why this city is so backwards at coming forwards that is it! Sheffield should have had that Museum. The old central library would have been perfect for it. But, we don’t even try to compete do we?

Btw I think the National Museum of Football in Manchester is excellent. It’s just in the wrong city!

And that’s why I get so annoyed at Sheffield! A fantastic tourism opportunity and one which would brings lots of money into this city. Enough to fill in all the pot holes in’t’ road and put us on the world map. But the lefties and the liberals don’t see the potential in anything like that.

Manchester, cheaper than London (which would be the biggest football footfall location you'd imagine) , historically one enormous and one big club, now two enormous clubs. Close to Liverpool too.

Probably about 3 million football fans watching the Manchester clubs in Manchester every season, both in European competitions bringing over foreign football fans and more potential visitors.

An hour or so away from the birth place, bet that's pretty good in museum land. I know I've been to museums focused on things that happened fooking miles away.

Not saying our council isn't Shithouse though. They're awful.

And why can’t we compete with “footfall”? These were similar sized cities not so long ago. One decided to build an international airport and try and attract commerce, the other didn’t bother but stuck to its old ways of doing things.

And we’re still doing it now.

I’ve travelled all over the world and one thing I notice is that even in the most backward of places, if there’s something that a place is famous for, they really blow their trumpet about it and claim it for their own.

We don’t.

We made the finest steel in the world- bar none. Where is the museum to commemorate that?

Then we should probably move the birthplace and associated artefacts of Shakespeare to London rather than Stratford upon Avon. Because it’s more likely to be commercially successful?

Isambard Kingdom Brunel and associated artefacts can be moved from Telford to somewhere bigger too perhaps?

I visited a remote “castle” in a place called “Bran” in Romania. It was a village about the size of Bradfield. But like thousands of others I went there...why? Because Bran castle is the supposed home of Count Dracula -it’s just fiction- but it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors a year, based on it being just that.

But you don’t think with all our history in the game of football we should have tried, AT LEAST TRIED, to wrestle that off Preston North Bleeding End before Manchester got their mitts on it? How the hell did it end up in Preston in the first place? Why wasn’t it always only ever going to be here?

The people of Sheffield are the finest folks I’ve ever come across. But they are so parochial in their outlook because they’ve never known any different. We see it here on this thread... we yield to other cities and willingly give up on things that we should be fighting tooth and nail to be our own because it’s our heritage.

We campaigned to save the Plough at Sandygate, where the rules of football were developed, prior to being finalised at the Adelphi. The old landlord set up Hallam FC, played cricket for England and the USA and toured Australia pre-Ashes. The site is dripping in history and although a three local councilors were sympathetic (1 LibDem / 2 Labour), the Council couldn't be arsed to list it as a 'designated cultural asset'.

They really don't give a shit about the history of this wonderful city.
