Blades 6-0 Pigs, Steel City Cup

Am I imagining things or did this actually happen in the 90s? I know there was definitely a Steel City Cup or Challenge Cup, something like that, and I'm certain we won the last one 6-0 but can't find any evidence of this anywhere.

I'm sure my dad gave me a copy of the Green 'Un with the report. We had a half decent team while theirs was mostly reserves and youth.

If this did happen, does anyone have any memories of the teams or scorers?

I think there may have been a 4-1 win at the lane in 96?

From memory the Steel City Cup only happened twice (95 & 96). Pigs won the first one 1-0 or maybe 2-1

There was a friendly at Hillsborough in pres season in 94 following our relegation which we won 3-2 but predated the “Steel City Cup” itself.

Hard to imagine playing that lot in a pre season game these days but I guess it may make a return as we regularly send an XI to local lower/non-league sides.

Unsure about that one,my first match was a 9-0 win against Barnsley in the county cup around 70-71 , I was a dingle then but a blade since. Ups and downs is an understatement.

Only reason I’m willing to believe this could have happened is it would be typical United to do it in some worthless game and then saying nowt about it whilst those tramps banged on about some league game in lower leagues decades ago
