Nice goal from King Keith. I was there but don’t remember much about it.

One thing I do remember is that Paul Tomlinson had a huge kick on him, as you see there.

Bristol Rovers bailed us out that day, holding Hull to the draw that set up the last Hull - Burnley game.

There is a little bit of action from the Hull - Rovers game on YouTube. Rovers’ coach broke down and they arrived at Boothferry Park in taxis at 2 minutes to 3.

I remember being on the kop that day and I'm sure the rumour went round at full time that Hull had lost to Bristol Rovers and we were up.
 
And highlights of the Burnley v Hull game that got us promoted, including a pitch invasion from United fans after the game! It annoyed me at the time why this game was played after the season had finished, if I remember rightly they had plenty of opportunity to play it earlier?

Norwich had completed their fixtures for the 1984-85 season, 8 points ahead of Coventry who had 3 games left. Coventry then won all their remaining games including a 4-1 win against champions Coventry to overtake Norwich and finish one place above the relegation zone. Not sure if it was the following season or two that the FL decided that every team complete their season fixtures the same time as every team in the same division

Yep, the rumour spread like wildfire and the whole ground was celebrating at one point in the second half. I always remember Keith Edwards appearing on a special programme on Yorkshire TV on Friday night sporting the black eye he'd sustained at Bolton on Bank Holiday Monday. His fellow guest George Kerr suggested that Keith should focus on beating Newport on Saturday and then spend Sunday in church praying.
 
Would have been there but don’t remember the goals. Remembrr sat on the stairs st home listening to updates from Burnley Hull though
 



Put Edwards above Bill. Lot more to him as a player.
Skipper is a brilliant goal machine. Now denying his record. Sights need a bit of adjustment now.
Having them pair (Shearer-ism) scoring our goals has been a joy.
 
This is gold thanks for sharing it ,although I'd been to the lane in 81 ......this is the day I knew I was a Blade .

A huge following went to Bolton, with many in fancy dress and United pushing for promotion. I was right behind the goal when Edwards got his black eye. He went in for a very brave header resulting in a goal but took a boot to the face. He was down for ages and had to go off. It was a disappointing game for us as we needed a win and will be remembered by many for the crowd trouble all around the ground throughout the game - we lost 3-1? Always grateful to King Keith though for getting that single goal as it proved crucial in getting us promotion on goal difference.

Porterfield said at the time that Edward's goal would get us promoted. How right he was.

Was 3-1 yes. 14 year old me was playing football at Hilltop common in Dronfield with Radio Sheffield on. Paul Tomlinson's dad, who was the landlord of the Hyde Park, came out and gave us a rollicking and threatened to call the police cos the ball went in his car park a couple of times.
 
Remember coming back over the M62 from Bolton and seeing the Hull coaches going in the opposite direction for their evening game at Port Vale, which thankfully they lost.

Can't recall much of the last game against Newport other than thinking we had loads of chances to secure a much healthier win.
