We certainly need to try something. The optimistic side of me would like to see JB and Flynny rekindle the sort of understanding they had when the Beard was on loan with Coutts providing the creativity in the middle. Any side we cobble together though still lacks pace and defensive solidity

Today was a watershed day for me regarding Adkins. I was originally pleased with his appointment as I thought that it was pretty much as good as it could get at this level. We have made absolutely no progress at all since he has arrived and in fact you could rightly argue that we have gone backwards.

His substitutions today were suicidal and I just cannot understand how anybody who plies their trade as a football manager would ever think that that making those changes today with 10 minutes to go would ever result in anything other that either a defeat or at best a draw.

When was the last time the Reed contributed anything positive towards a performance? when was the last time that Baxter contributed anything positive? when was the last time Flynn... lets just throw them all on at the same time with 10 minutes to go when we are desperately trying to hang on to a 1-0 lead as we all now that light weight midgets are exactly what we need when we are trying to shut up shop.

This team is going nowhere and looking at the systematic dismantling of anything positive within the playing squad over the past 8 or 9 years then I just don't see any positives going forward.

Thanks Blades. Another pile of shite.
watershed. spot on. i said at the time when Baxter came on. Adkins just lost the kop.

Adkins knows more about the game than fans on a message board. I'm sure he didn't just randomly throw three subs on in a formation we're not used to.
his problem is that i.. and it would seem, many others aren't so sure mate.

The training ground is the place to try something different not when you're holding a slender lead at home with twenty minutes left !
He has been picking that midfield for the last few matches and he has been bleating on about consistant team selection,so to change it wholesale was suicidal - I could understand the 'injury ' to Basham (although he had been playing out wide right for about 10 mins before he was withdrawn) but despite his shortcomings Hammond should have had the experience to see out the rest of the game without getting another booking but Coutts withdrawel was totally baffling - I thought he was taking off Woolford which would have made much more sense !
Poor Substitutions !!!

I think Woolford thought he was coming off too as he wandered over to the touchline only to see Coutts number come up instead.

Positive: Coutts looked good. Negative: We took him off. Positive: Billy plays with passion and looks dangerous. Negative: Seems to be the only one to do so! The backing off is so hard to watch, happens all the time too. It's cost us 5 points in two home games. Basham looked better but I see both him and Hammond as defensive midfielders, very little creativity in the middle. Woolford, well the less said about him the better. Glad to see McEveley keeping up his recent improvements. Need some signings or a major kick up the arse. UTB

The team began to look tired yesterday. Adkins three subs were an attempt to freshen it up.
I agree about the signings. At this point we all need the boost of a positive acquisition.

I wouldn't mind seeing Coutts given a go in the middle with Hammond v Blackpool...I actually prefer him there than out to on the right...it would also be good to see JCR or Adams at some point to provide a threat in behind and an outlet on the break when we win possession..we definately need someone creative in the middle of the park and an injection of pace..it's one thing to make us more solid, but let's have more of a threat going the other way...Another thing is,why does George never roll the ball out to a Full Back ..it's probably a deliberate tactic, and it worked for Sharp's goal the other day,but usually whether it's George or anybody else,it gives the opposition the ball back and we're back to square one..also it's dire to watch, and all this defensive tactics and we still concede goals...might aswell have a bit more of a go.
