Yet again we have thrown away points away from home by being too negative.

We sat back against QPR in the last 20 mins when the game was there for the taking and today we showed what we can do in the second half.

When will Blackwell play 2 upfront away from home and get rid of the left back playing left wing ?

Camara looks our best forward and pairing him with Cresswell and Ward out wide would give the other team something to think about rather than the other way round.

1 point form the last 2 away games and with a bit of ambition it could have been 4...and even if it had gone t1ts up we'd only be 1 point worse off!!

we played one upfront in most away games last season and had the second best away record in the division. we played one up front at Bristol and Plymouth and got 6 points. I can understand KB's thinking.

However ,Cresswell is no Hendo and probably need a 2nd striker with him...or we play himwide left and evans and Camara down the middle.

The difficulty comes when/if the opposition score first. Theoretically, 4-5-1 can then become 4-3-3, but more often than not the players picked for the wide positions are defensive (like Stewart) who are not able to make the conversion and be a threat or converted forwards (Ward Cresswell) who are the weak links in the 5 man midfield to start with.

If we haven't the personnel, we shouldn't be playing the formation(s).

But would any of France Taylor Reid or Little do the job he was asked to do today any better?

I agree with your point, but when you add his name to the above to make a famous five, it does make you wonder about KB's ability to bring in any better in the JTW.

Then again, is he only signing the players he can afford now? Why would you bring any of the above to the club unless they were all you could get for the money you have been given to play with?

Does Blackwell have any scouts that watch opposition or does he not listen to them.
Brizzle knocked 3 past them and Forest managed five.

Thought our second half line up was a fairly balanced one on paper. With Ward out wide and Camara up front we finally had two players with pace and ability. Our central midfielders were poor though, contributed very little going forward and we soon ran out of ideas and started chipping it up to the forwards, who didn't win much in the air.

I've seen plenty of games like this under Blackwell, and if he can't get us to play flowing passing football why doesn't he sign a 6'5 target man, so that we at least have a genuine aerial threat?

I thought Harper had a good game Bergen but I agree with what you are saying. I'm just amazed that Blackwell thinks he is such a tactical genius that he can start with that formation and keep Camara and Evans on the bench. Personnel last term was very different.

All you Blackwell sympathisers out there cannot claim he is lacking in resources if he has his top earners on the bench like this. No doubt KB will claim we battered them 2nd half and yes we looked decent until last ten when it got scrappy but first half after the Walker injury is shambolic.

Bunn is a weak, tiny clown when it really matters, Monty has added zero stability and Taylor for me is a joke figure at this level.

Exactly, which makes the decision to get rid of cotterill even the more baffling

Blackwell seems to be too cautious away from home in my opinion, but that worked fine for us last season, and maybe he is hoping that our early 2009 form will return. Sadly, we are missing some key ingredients such as Naughton, Naysmith and Kenny. One thing that hasn't looked as solid this year is the defence. Even tonight, we badly missed a proper left back (Taylor isn't good enough I'm afraid) and Walker was clearly injured before he came off. If we stop conceding soft goals, I am convinced we can go on a run again and get into the play offs.

It is an average league, and despite feeling a bit sorry for ourselves, we're not miles away at all. We're in about the same position as we were this time last year. We won't catch automatic, but none of the other teams are great. Most sides will fancy a tilt at the play offs.

we'll win nowt wi cheap as chips as manager ...................

If only it was this simple. :D

IMO this 451/433 is the biggest load of shite in the modern game. Why not go for the win from the off for gods sake & stop faffing about?

any m,anager who signs Camara on BIG wages and then leaves him on the bench wants shooting. can't he see he's a natural goalscorer? yet again his goal yesterday was oppotunistic and his pace and movement caused em problems. he needs to stoop p1ssing around with the formation and go with Camara and Hendo (when fit) or Cresswell as the front 2 and let them create a partnership.

front 6 tomorrow should be Ward, Harper, Monty, Reid, Cresswell, Camara. they are struggling so lets go for the jugular from the off.

Sorry mate but we'll need an extra midfielder in there instead of Camara, to combat the threat of Michael Tonge....

We've won nowt with any manager for a very long time

We 'won' promotion to the Premier League not that long ago with Warnock :p
I admit it seem a long time ago but my opinion is thats down to the shite we have had to endure since he left.

Bergen.
Flowing football? That's not like you. From my previous incarnation on blades united you were advocating the pleasures of 3 pass football.

Well, on 'The Football League Show' he said we looked better in the second half when we went for it a bit more, so hopefully he learns a lesson that with our current squad we can't continue with this negative shit that we've been persisting with and might actually start trying to win a game away from home from the start...

Three passes?? You've just made him feel ill:thumbup:

Don't see how the formation has anything to do with not going for a win.

As I've posted before we never seem to actually believe we are the better side. Which is probably why we always lose in the important one off matches.
Why don't our players believe they are better than the opposition?
Probably because we never go out and dominate anyone, playing consistently well.

However all the above has nothing to do with 451/433, 433 being the formation I strongly believe we should play anyway.

front 6 tomorrow should be Ward, Harper, Monty, Reid, Cresswell, Camara. they are struggling so lets go for the jugular from the off.

Don't know what Cresswell has done in the last few games since his injury. Why not either move Ward upfront (if you don't think Ched deserves to play) and actually play to feet rather than going from fullback to targetman.

Where does Monty fit into your 'go for the jugular' approach? Is this a euphemism for 'hoof it hard, hoof it long, hoof it high, hoof it often'?

What have you seen in Reid's contributions so far to make you think he has anything more than a bit of brainless pace?

My biggest problem with our manager is that the belief and fight that we always used to have seems to have been lost. When we were one of the scrappers of the division we were always up for the game we just lacked the quality around the pitch. Everyone knew coming to play us that 99% of the time we'd give them a game. This was a time when we didn't have the money we have now. Blackwell seems to have lost this great aspect of being Sheffield United but he's doubled this up with better players looking distinctly average and getting outplayed by less able sides.

When we were scrappers I loved that about us and hoped for the days when we would drop better players into our side and have the best 11 and watch us dominate sides. That's never happened and apart from the manager I don't know why. Hopefully Blackwell's style and beliefs are proven correct and we are in the PL this time next year, if not I hope we get someone in who can get our fight back and implement the quality to really put our stamp on this division, as we should of been for years. You can't argue with Blackwells results record but shouldn't we be aiming higher than grounding out results against sides that haven't got anything like our resources?
We are supposed to be the big boys down here for gods sake, why don't we ever show what we can do?

According to Blackwell's post-match comments, he doesn't think Camara is yet fit enough to last 90 minutes. He's worried that he could pick up an injury. However, let's see what tomorrow brings...

Shame about Walker's injury. I don't think it was accidental. The Leicester player set out to 'do' him. Poor ref, too.

Poor ref, too.
Agreed on that point. Have we already had him before this season?

Along with that joker against Palace he's the worst I've seen this year.
But it still wasn't a foul on Bunn for their goal no matter how much Bunny wants it to be.

I always struggled to make people understand what I meant regarding that stat. I've always been in favour of a varied approach. The point about the 3 passes was that most goals in football came about following three or fewer passes. This is (was) a fact, not up for discussion.

Now, how you interpret that stat, in terms of how you should be playing to score more goals is something completely different.

Last season we were good away from home but now we have been found out and that system no longer works. We were lucky against bristol and plymouth thats why we got 6 points. Blackwell has no idea about tactics.
