Interesting news...

SHEFFIELD United boss Kevin Blackwell has put a word in for loyal fans to save them cash.
The deadline for season ticket holders to renew for reduced prices has been extended, partly due to Blackwell's intervention.

Monday was the original closing date but it has been extended until Friday.

"To have sold almost 17,000 already is fantastic news but some fans I have spoken to have told me that they had not had time to renew before the closing date, and they were disappointed at missing the offer," said Blackwell.

"I appreciate that for a fan to make a saving of up to £60 that it is something not to be sniffed at, so I spoke to chairman Kevin McCabe and he agreed to keep the offer open until Friday at 5pm. Let's face it, I want all our supporters back - and more - to help us get back to the top flight."

United sold 18,000 season tickets last season with promotion expectations high following relegation from the Premier League.

Even though the campaign faltered, United topped the league for home attendances with Bramall Lane gates averaging over 25,500 and 78.6 per cent of seats occupied.

Sales figures are ahead of this time last year but United's claim to being the best supported team in the Championship could be under threat next term from newcomers Derby County, who averaged 32,400 in the Premier League.

Last season United were the only Championship team with crowds regularly over 25,000. Norwich's crowd figures were next best and, despite relegation, Leicester had the third highest attendances.

Very nice gesture i must say and i'm also very surprised that we have shifted 17k ST's already; bodes very well for the atmsophere at BDTBL next season.

I was pleasantly surprised at shifting nearly 17k tickets as well.

Think the number would have been significantly less if there hadn't been a management change last season.

No offence, but "not had time to renew" - haven't you been able to renew since March - which is about 2mths?!

Great gesture don't get me wrong!

I guess it slips people's minds. I know I've renewed on the last day possible before :)

Had they got the online renewals working, I think many people would have been able to renew sooner i.e. not having to travel to BDTBL and not having to wait in a telephone queue.
