Bizarre sub

Wank sub. No other way to describe it. Let's bring on a 38 year old who is old enough to be Greenwoods dad and expect him to last 3/4s of a game.

What must Brewster or the man who forked up the 20 odd MILLION be thinking right now as he finally comes on as we’re chasing a game

Nice little bit of link up between Mousset and Brewster to win that free kick.

Rodwell may make the bench on Sunday I think.

Basham's work rate was needed in midfield and I think it was also sensible to keep Ampadu in the holding role, where he did well. With hindsight maybe Wilder would have tried Osborn, but he may have thought it would make us a bit light weight against the likes of Matic and Pogba.

Jags wasn't the main one to blame for the first half goals that turned the game. Our defensive line was too high on both occasions.

Too high all game against blistering pace

Substitutions have always been the gaffer’s biggest weakness. He’s surpassed himself tonight, though.

Jags barely gets any games at all but he now makes it 3 games out of 3 v Man U - arguably the quickest strike force in the league.

You couldn’t make it up...

Symmetrical too, we’ve shipped 3 in each of those games and against Southampton too. It’s a shame, it isn’t his fault he’s getting older and slower, when pace used to get him out of trouble.

I said at the time, the obvious sub to make was Norwood on to CM, move Basham RCM and put Ampadu at RCB.

You'd still have the overlap then too.

Was gutted when it happened and still mesmerised by it now.

Wilder has always had a tendency to be a bit samey with his subs, as do many managers, but he's also been brave at times (Brentford in the Champ springs to mind).

I can't find a reason to consider it brave or logical. Gobsmacked more than anything.

The likely reason Wilder didn't go for that is that he didn't think Norwood would be able to compete and keep up with the likes of Fernandes and Pogba.

Double edge sword. What was worse losing some energy in midfield or unsettling an already changed defence when we had made a good start. Jags wasn't playing because he wasn't deemed fit to start. We shipped three goals as a result and we didn't compete with Pogba and Fernades anyway with the change. If Norwood can't get on to replace a midfield player down the middle then why was he on the bench. Why wasn't Lundstram there instead? poor decisions all round.

Osborn was warming up and getting ready to come on. Why he didn't push Ampadu to the right and Osborn in the defensive role is beyond me.

Basham is probably our best midfielder at the moment.
This is part of the equation. It's clear the defence was weaker, and we can say that partly cost us the goals. On the other hand having Bash making midfield better will also have minimised the potential hammering.

I’d definitely rather see him there than Berge. And I’d change to 442 to accommodate.

Personally disagree with all of this, Bash gives us the energy on the right and thats where Berge was playing not CM! If Norwood comes on either he plays wide right and we lose the energy, or Ampadu plays wide right and again I prefer to have Bash there. Other option was Osborn but this makes the team unbalanced.

Jags gives experience and we need that on the pitch, just get off the lads backs, if Fleck scores that great chance first half this game plays out so different!

Or put Osborn in for Berge. He would at least give us energy in midfield still.
