£1 million+ for a player with one year left, I'm delighted with that. £10k p/w off the wage bill.

Well done United.

first couple of sentences on BBC sport:

"Doncaster Rovers recruit Sheffield United's Billy Sharp"

"Doncaster Rovers have paid a club record fee to sign striker Billy Sharp from Sheffield United.

BBC Radio Sheffield understands the former Scunthorpe forward, 24, will cost Rovers in the region of £1.1m."

Simon Walton was unspectacular on loan at Crewe last season.
Billy Sharp scored a goal every other game in the Championship during an extended loan at Doncaster.
When's the loan window open?

Walton was that good? Never mind, Blackie will get him going.

Hence the former being a free and the latter being a million plus transfer.

What's your point?

The BBC have their finger on the pulse, I posted on Friday that Walton was at the training ground on a trial. Nothing more.

Walton will be a great signing. Plymouth fans are devastated to lose him.
He's the kind of talented, never causes trouble, model professional, didn't make much of a mark on loan at Crewe type player we've been shouting out for all summer.

Thats fantastic. Always trusted your judgment. Looks like we've got a diamond there then.

heard that billy was told he´d av to take a 50 per cent pay cut before he´d be considered for first team.

Where did you hear that from? It sounds highly unlikely. Employers can't tear up written contracts just because it doesn''t suit them. A lawyer would have a field day.

Absolutely. There will be fans of around a dozen clubs who've enjoyed the Walton experience who will be overwhelmingly jealous if we sign him up.

You're right but I'm not sure what malagablade is suggesting is "tearing up written contracts". It's not against the contract to not play him. It's shit, if true, but not in breach of the contract.

The point was that Billy had allegedly been told that he would have to take a 50% pay cut. This would be in breach of contract.

Why is it? He doesn't have to accept the drop. I'm a contractor and my contract has a disclaimer that my employers can change the terms and conditions with 2 weeks notice - that includes salary and job role.

It wouldn't be wise for them to drop my wages 50% as i wouldnt hang around, i'd imagine the same would go for Billy. But lets face it. He came to us as a goal scorer. Yet hasn't scored goals for us. Perhaps we could have him on the trades descriptions act

Wasn't he told he would be taking a 50% cut in his salary if he was going to sign another contract; not for the final year on his existing contract.

Oh you want McCabe to interfere in first team affairs and tell the manager who to pick and keep.
Can't do any worse than Blackwell last season!!!!

three better centre forwards than him at the club(cresswell, bogdanovic and henderson) and one potentially better(evans).

Creswell i will give you, but boggy hasnt played yet and henderson is a white version of Heskey. Rather off load hendo for more money and 1, bring in transfer fees and 2, make it look like we wont be playing long ball, yet again.

I'd much rather off load Henderson than Billy also.

Gutted he's going.

I know quite alot about the Billy situation and could of told you all a month ago he was going to reject Burnley in favour of a move to Doncaster/Leeds. A friend of mine (Leeds fan) was hoping they got Sharp but as i know SEB (Billys brother) i found a few things out for my mate.. didn't bother posting because i would probably be called a bullshitter.

But Billy didn't want to leave Sheffield so Doncaster/Leeds would have been a better move obviously Leeds wasn't in the race to sign him so he chose Donny.

i wished he stayed and we bought him for 2.2m didn't, 1million loss on a striker that i think would have been good given a chance. :(

I'm a fan of Bogdanović and am confident in his ability to perform and score for united, he was the true fans favourite at Barnsley and is a very cultured player as for Henderson - you may not rate him but for a striker playing the role he does, he is about as proven as you can get at this level and has a good scoring record.

I don't think united really missed sharp last season and probably won't miss him next season either.

Sorry, but how many chances is he to be given?

We all want him to do well, and he has proven he can do a certain job in a certain team, but this is not the team or role for him.....

he was the true fans favourite at Barnsley

Not really saying much though is it?
