Billy's gone

Am I looking too much into what he said when he rejected burnley, didn't he actuLly say he wanted to stay in south Yorkshire, I don't recall him specifically saying he wanted to stay at Sheffield United

Whereas Burnley's 1.4m would have probably been upfront, i imagine the 1.2m from Donny will be paid in instalments of about £10 a month.

The whole direct debit transfers need to stop.

Look if a club can't afford to buy the player in one then they should not be allowed to buy them, wern't leeds stilling paying for some of their Champions League team long after relegation?

People laughed last week when i said we were in shit street now billy wants to stay, He will have been forced out seen it before and will see it again. WE NEED THE MONEY OR WE WON'T HAVE A TEAM.

the problem dave is that it's rubbish. The money for Billy is required if we are to purchase players who haven't been released but there are other options to Billy being sold.
The whole being forced out is a joke, no player can be forced out while under contract and Billy certainly wasn't.

We have Dickinson and De Merit coming to Shirecliffe this week (both available for nothing) and we've got 3 players on Trail that we are running the rule over.

That before we even dip our toes into the loan market.

so that is 20 goals next season , we need to find from somewhere .

Tell me, which of the 8 goals he has scored for us previously in the League indicates to you that he would have got us 20 next season?

So its not strange to you that Billy comes out last week stating he wants to fight for his place at the lane now he is going to donny? And last last week we apparently missed out on a few players that required a fee. I think they have had a little word in his ear saying Ched, Boggy, hendo and cressy are all ahead of you in the pecking order son i'd get yourself off.

Like someone says above, Billy said he wanted to stay in South Yorkshire, not necessarily at the Lane. Also, you're giving Billy way too much credit there Dave. Even if he said he wanted to stay at the Lane, it doesn't necessarily mean he does. Could well be the case that he simply didn't want to go to Burnley and wanted to force United's hand for whatever reason.

I think Billy will go as he genuinely wants to play football. He'll get that at Donny and will get all the fringe benefits such as not moving etc.

When did Billy last score 1 for us let alone 20??

Nothing on OS I see, what a surprise
or on the BBC, but given they haven't even got our signing of Simonsen on there then it's not a surprise at all

First things first, we haven't missed out on anyone the deals just didn't go through last week.
Secondly Billy didn't say he wanted to stay at United, the closest I heard was South Yorkshire.
Thirdly and finally United were planning to go this season with him in the squad so I don't believe your scenario which still doesn't "force" him out.

For my money Billy only wanted to go to Donny if he wasn't staying at United.

If United want him out, why wouldnt they shove him into the reserves???? Why would they play a player they dont want????

They wouldn't do either, they'd ship him out on loan because they can't afford to pay him £1M to do nothing for a year. Billy gets to play football and walk on a Bosman at the end of the season, ensuring an even bigger pay cheque. As always, the cards are stacked in the players favour IMHO.

You also state "how typical" that we should use the money to fund other deals. Maybe I'm missing the point, but exactly how else are the club to fund other deals?

What would be the point, you never turn up.

Even you can't spin this as a bad move by the club if it turns out to be true.

What would be the point is bang on Bob.
I just wanted to hear McCabe say Billy's part of the future again.
I think it's great we're selling a young striker to one of our rivals and getting an ageing Malteser, courtesy of our sponsors instead.
What's not to love? It's all part of the master plan.

Oh you want McCabe to interfere in first team affairs and tell the manager who to pick and keep.

Can't say I agree with you there.

No, just flagging up what was said and what is being done.
I also seem to remember a couple of years back that we were going for hungry young players etc, etc.
Mebbes that was said at a forum.

You've been saying for years that Wendy were going to overtake us.

People are over-thinking this.

Davidpinder; This "transfer" is only at the same stage that we got to with Burnley's offer.

Houso; his choice isn't between playing and not playing. He'll agree a loan deal if (when) he doesn't get anywhere near the first team.

...and sign for them for nowt next summer, pocketing the signing on fee in the process.

The club shouldn't have to rely on the sale of one player in order to fund further recruitment. Particularly one we have invested so much into previously. It smacks of naivity in assuming he would go for the first offer. It's also an admission that United are struggling for other revenue streams that they are prepared to put into player recruitment. So are we to accept that we cant buy any players unless we sell from now on????

Yes, I accept that we are in a strange financial climate and that we have to be sensible to avoid ending up like other clubs. But how many players exactly can we get with the money we get for Billy and with the money we save on his wages? Two at a push I would say (of any real quality) - and by my reckoning we need at least another 4 or 5.

I just worry about our operation when it means we cant invest in the squad without selling one of our biggest assets to a rival championship club. I'm not saying it can be avoided and that United dont need to do it, but it just worries me. We're relying on selling ONE PLAYER to fund squad building!

You can only sell players that other teams would like to buy.

We gambled on getting promotion and had a very high wage bill. We now have players on good wages (Hendo, Billy, Ched) who aren't likely to move for a paycut.
We are moving Billy on because he is the cheapest (out of contract in a year), not first choice and has a chairman at Donny who will pay his wages personally.

good management by blackwell.

billy sharp
value july '09 = £0, on the transfer list, nobody wanted him
potential value july '10 = £1,200,000

three better centre forwards than him at the club(cresswell, bogdanovic and henderson) and one potentially better(evans).

hopfully the money will pay for a new defence.

heard that billy was told he´d av to take a 50 per cent pay cut before he´d be considered for first team.whilst on the subject of money QPR paid Kenny the money he lost out on from blades whilst he was suspended(as we payed him a reduced salary).

I wouldn't say that, nearly all of the deals United make are like that. It's a much easier way of paying the transfer fees, if managed correctly. Thankfully we seem to handle it quite well.

Look if blackwell doesnt rate him we sell him and still have 4 good championship strikers and can invest the cash into the defence then what is the problem?!

The post shouldn't be called Billys gone then
