Billy's gone

If that's the case then the directors have once again chosen finances over football, as ever. Some will see it as a good deal. I'm a little bit torn both ways but after Billy stook his flag into the ground and decided on United, I had accepted that he would be playing for us next season.

It looks as if the club have given him a push. Lets just hope we can spend the money wisely.

Perhaps he was waiting for the Donny offer when he rejected Burnley.

I know Burnley have better prospects because of the PL money, but Donny are closer to his home and less of a dump (marginally) than Burnley.

I think Billys refusal to go to Burnley was more down to the fact that he probably had a gentlemens agreement with Doncaster!

If the club had gotten their way Billy would of gone to Burnley for more money.

Lou - United cannot push him. He has a contract with us which we have to honour and he's free to walk at the end of this season. There's nothing we could do about that. If Sharp has signed for Doncaster, it's because he wanted to. Given that and his high wages, £1.2M sounds like brilliant business.

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions just yet, I think there is more to this than meets the eye. I'd wait for the club to confirm something before getting too excited/depressed.

I take it you missed the "if" in my post?

Good luck Billy and all that, but how can Doncaster afford £1.2m plus his wages? Perhaps United have oiled the deal somehow.

Either way Ryan has pushed the boat out on this one.

The strange and murky world of BDTBL, what exactly is going on down there......................?

The strange and murky world of BDTBL, what exactly is going on down there......................?

Which bit is causing confusion?

Billy is in the last year of his contract and isn't looking like being in the managers plans.
We got a £1.4 Million bid from Burnley and others sniffing round, we were obviously going to move him on for that money.

Billy turned it down and stated he wanted to stay but now it seems that Donny have upped their bid (which they said they wouldn't do) and the deal might be on.

I think there is still more to come.

Selling a highly paid player who doesn't score for us? Is it really that strange?

People laughed last week when i said we were in shit street now billy wants to stay, He will have been forced out seen it before and will see it again. WE NEED THE MONEY OR WE WON'T HAVE A TEAM.

Great news.

Good luck at Donny Billy, you were never going to be a success here.

How about a late deal hijack from Forest? Stranger things have happened...

I'm not sure its as transparent as that. United could do an awful lot to give Billy the nudge. Despite what everyone says, Billy wasnt in the ultimate bargaining position. If he were to sit it out in United's reserves (for arguments sake) for a year it eventually makes him less attractive to potential buyers.

I'm not saying £1.2M isnt a great fee, but why all this nonsense at the fans forum about Billy being part of things and then Blackwell praising him, when they knew all along they had to sell him. The two faced nature of it all stinks of something else going on.

That's another thing as well..........have United simply agreed a fee or has Billy actually agreed terms???? What are RS reporting? It strikes me as people are saying he's gone but we dont know if he's going to reject it the same way he did Burnley. Are people making early assumptions in the way football supporters always do?!

Turns out it's just an accepted bid and not an agreed deal.

I really can't see why all the cards aren't stacked in the players favour. We're never going to pay him £1M to sit in the reserves for a year. We can't force him to leave. We were never going to publicly say "Billy can't hit a bulls ass with a banjo so has no future with us".

None of it seems confusing / murky to me.

I dont disagree with you entirely on his bargaining position alco and I'm not suggesting its mirky. All I'm saying is that quite often there is more to these situations than meets the eye. United are clearly relying on Billy going to fund a couple of other deals (how typical), but Billy wouldn't publicly state United are his only choice and then change his mind to go to Donny Rovers. Just doesnt make sense to me. If United want him out, why wouldnt they shove him into the reserves???? Why would they play a player they dont want????

Whereas Burnley's 1.4m would have probably been upfront, i imagine the 1.2m from Donny will be paid in instalments of about £10 a month.

I still think he'd hold all the aces, Lou. If he goes somewhere on a free, he bags a lovely signing on fee.

Turns out it's just an accepted bid and not an agreed deal.

Precisely then. Lets see what Billy says first. He might be consistent to his Burnley response. Like I said though - I think some pushing is involved somewhere.
