A fresh report from Football Insider has claimed that Derby County want to sign Sheffield United skipper, Billy Sharp.

The article claims that the Rams have asked about taking Sharp on a late January deal. It is claimed the Championship outfit are awaiting a response from the Blades and Chris Wilder

England’s all time leading goal scorer wants our boy. For sure.

Been our 5th / 6th choice striker most of this season.

Riddle me that 😡.

Would be crackers to let him go, especially as he could easily bang in 20 goals next season back in the Championship. Shame we can't offload the
Moose instead!

I wouldn't be surprised to see Billy start tomorrow on current form.

Surely, surely not.

Only one in form, currently. Proven for when we drop back down a level.

Yet we spent over £50m on upgrades to replace these old gits.
Well, Sharp has been phased out and hasnt scored an open play goal. Not that we create many chances. He looks out of his depth in open play. Constantly outstrengthed, outpaced and ourworked.

Didsy on the other hand you could spend £100m and struggle to replace. He really is one of his own.

A loan move for Sharp might be an idea to see how he does in the championship again in a struggling team as he ages

Hasn’t scored an open play goal ? You mean like our second goal against Plymouth after setting up our first with a delightful chip to the back post ?

Constantly outstrengthed (sic) , outpaced and outworked ? You mean like as in the penalty he almost single handedly earned us against Newcastle , and then dispatched with aplomb under severe pressure ?

Someone’s not been paying attention .

No chance he's goi g nowhere look at the tweet he sent the Derby fan that harrased him

Maybe the post you replied too was a little bit unfair, but lets be honest Plymouth are a 3rd division side,
and while yes he did earn the penalty against Newcastle and dispatched it under pressure, his only real other contribution this season is too keep throwing himself to the floor trying to get free kicks something that Premiership Refs seem to have sussed out.
I like Billy he is a Blade and has done well for us but I'm afraid Premiership quality he is not. I still can not believe we gave him a 2 year deal this season, it did set a few alarm bells ringing at the time.
Do I think he could do well next season if we go down possibly but I don't think he will be a starter.
If Derby are serious about signing him i would consider it if the fee was right.

I know the transfer market has been vastly over inflated
But cant replace Didsy with £100m ?
Really ?
Find me a player who does what McGoldrick does and I’ll give you a tenner.
You could strike lucky of course, and go on the continent and hopefully find a similar player but there’s no guarantees.

Only Firmino does what McGoldrick does as well as he does in this division

If he wants to go to play first-team football, let him go! He's been a great servant at our club so I think the decision should lay in his hands!

His only other real contribution ..... wasnt he the one that dispatched the pen against FULHAM , to get us one of our few points ... pity he wasnt on penalty duty against Villa, we would have got at least a point , maybe more..

You say it like the way McGoldrick plays has never been done before - he’s a false 9.
There’s been loads and still is - Jose Baxter played that role in the FA cup run under Clough.
There may not be any obvious options for under £10m right now but that’s mainly because not many teams play that way currently.

Oh come on ffs. Jose Baxter 😂😂 I’m fully aware what a false 9 is, considering I mentioned Firmino in the same breath.
I haven’t seen many do what McGoldrick does as well as he does very often at all.

I wasn’t suggesting we resigned Jose Baxter - give me some credit. That was merely an example.
What specifically does McGoldrick do that you don’t see often?
(By the way, i’m in no way knocking McGoldrick here - he’s been one of very few positive in a dismal season, i’m genuinely curious)

Who's to say if someone else had taken the penalties they wouldn't have scored them, and Billy could have also missed the Villa on he has been known to miss a few.
You can't just pick a player just in case we get a penalty its not like America Football. If it was Tony Kenworthy and Peter Duffield would still have jobs.

It's not any specific attribute he has that others don't, it's having the lot together.

The way he drops deep to collect the ball, almost plays as a midfielder at times.
The silky first touch, often under pressure, rarely fails him.
He's capable of a trick or two to get him out of trouble.
Now you could go on the continent and find numerous players that can do that but McGoldrick also has some serious strength, good hold up play and he's very good in aerial duels to boot.

Everything good we do goes through him.

I'd argue possibly Harry Kane has adapted his game in this way, along with Firmino.

well the other league pen we did get , we missed it , thats a fact. not a 'IF' and then pens Billy did take he got us points ..
thats harsh to say hes just there to take pens, his persistence won us that penalty against Newcastle ... hes done more this season than the others bar Didzy..
if all 6 where fit and playing to there best ability Mousset for me would be number 1 ... but he has been shit for some time now, such a shame

My phone popped up with a news item for this saying the Blades rejected the Derby move.
