The only time I’ve ever been in the BLUT was to watch Billy at the Lane. June 1985 according to Google, and a crowd of over 47,000. A young HB desperately trying to score some brownie points with a new girlfriend from Catcliffe, if I recall correctly. Seem to remember Cliff Richard was on the bill as well.

I know the square root of fuck all about this man, but I wondered if it was the bloke who held the God-bothering orgy at the Lane. Lo and behold, it was.

Googled it on my dinner break to find this fantastic video of the event in question. Super 8 footage is a joy to look at anyway, but it's got some very peculiar shots of an old Bramall Lane filled with some old folks and weirdos. All set to the audio of Billy G's sermon. It's a bit creepy in my opinion, but it's a very intriguing watch.

And then when the collection trays came out, asked people to give what they couldn’t afford. At this point we left. Absolute robber of the working classes. A reverse Robin Hood. Twat. *for what its worth i think its all bollox, but i also think that of 5 day cricket, televised fishing and wearing shorts/sandals in January - WTF is that about by the way? But some see fit to enjoy
 
Cliff Richard did an impromptu free set in the bar of the Victoria Hotel after the Billy show. Also I remember my brother went busking outside the Lane that day and got moved on. Was that the same year as the Springsteen gig? It's a shame there hasn't been more gigs at the Lane - Housemartens at TC's testimonial is the only other one I can remember
