Even in the interview he said wilder was willing to let him go because he was not going to get the game time. so 100% back who it was that did not want to renew his contract

I think the point he was trying to make is - they told me I was staying, so I thought I was, I was never given chance to say goodbye to the fans properly. They left it until the season ended to tell me Iam not staying. - That is not how you treat the captain, ex ball boy, fan and servant of the club. He gave everything and The club shit on him, he was treated awfully, it’s disgusting and it was very unprofessional by Sufc. Iam not surprised he is pissed off still ! He deserved to be treated with dignity and respect and he was showed none.
So, what was the alternative?

Tell him before the end of the season we're not offering him a new deal and it then turns in to the Billy Sharp Show. Considering he riding the bench it would have been a distraction we didn't need.

As much as he's a club legend, like his former manager his ego is getting in the way of his elf-awareness.

Sorry dont know how to post it but it also says he voulf have joined pigs twice

You don't have to post the link, (if you supposedly don't know how) but you can easily post the source and we can find it ourselves.. if it really even exists.

Can confirm he said he nearly joined twice. Brian laws before we came in, and the second time they couldn’t offer what he wanted.

The YouTube clip is earlier in the thread. For me it's an interesting and engaging interview with Billy. Most in this thread haven't listened to it & it shows UTB ⚔️

Billy has had big energy on the field, so big it can be seen through screen and tbh, we have really lacked that energy in some of the games this season.

I don't think he would had been #1 starter on paper, but personally I would take him in dressing room and sitting on comfy subseat over Fleck any day.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head.

It’s because he was told he was staying until the last moment, to then be told he wasn’t, was the issue. Not that he had to go (although he’ll have obviously wanted to stay).

Doesn’t at all seem like the club handled it well (not overly surprised). Wouldn’t have been hard to have said upfront that we didn’t want to renew his contract as the club’s focus was on bringing in younger players etc and to have thanked him for his time and given him the chance for a proper goodbye.

I could only see him coming back as a coach, but sadly, not in the Hecky, Jack and Stuart McCall set up.

As far as Bert can make out, a club employee called Hecky told Sharp that he wanted him to stay but the person who owns the club and pays the wages didn't.
So when his contract ran out he left the club.
I thought Hecky's comments about wanting everybody to stay was strange. Being respectful is a good quality, but moving up a level means tough decisions have to be made. Discussions should have taken place in-house, promises avoided, and when the decision had been made, the club, including Hecky, should stick by it's decision.

Sharp had a great time here and finishing with a promotion should have been a wonderful ending to his Blades career.

Tend to agree. It was all very harmonious and inoffensive from Hecky but there is little reality in the statement.

In an ideal world maybe he likes them about the place. But for one you have 25 man squads so you can’t just keep everyone as you need space for players to come in and improve you. Secondly you can’t just have players having around on half a million to a million a year just to do fist pumps and keep coffee meetings in place.

End of the day, it has to end somehow. When he looks back he’ll realise he got a good ending; his boyhood team promoted back to the Premier League and a send off at the Town Hall. Better that then fading into the distance after an underwhelming relegation campaign.

I can see him ending up back at the MLS. Some team will fancy his goals who isn’t on a huge budget and he will probably fancy a longer stint there where he can be there for a full year. Then maybe he will do one final year at Doncaster to get them promoted and that will be it. That would perhaps be one way I could see this panning out.

I thought he came over well. He’s a good guy.

Billy needs to STFU.

Even if he feels let down by the club he's not showing much respect for the staff and team mates who supported him here.

Our position is hard enough as it is without sniping from club legends for their own ends.

Should save it for his book.

Of course it exists.

"Billy Sharp has revealed he turned down a move to Celtic twice during his playing career.

The Sheffield United hero was a target for Neil Lennon but opted against a switch to Glasgow.

Sharp, 37, who last played for LA Galaxy last season, admitted he "should have probably gone" but remained loyal to Sheffield United instead.

And another major factor in his decision was the lack of crowds with his second opportunity to sign for Celtic coming during the Covid-affected season.

Sharp - who also played for Southampton, Leeds and Scunthorpe United - told the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast: "Celtic, twice. Neil Lennon was ringing me quite a lot. My wife is Scottish as well...from Edinburgh though.

"I was at T in the Park once, flying back from T in the Park and I opened up the back page of the 'paper. It was: 'Sharp is a 'Tic' and I was like: 'Wow, I didn’t know it was that close.'

"I could have signed then but then the next time was in Covid. I was in the Premier League with Sheffield United and I spoke to Chris [Wilder] about it.

"He was like: 'Look, you’re not playing at the minute, you can go, it’s your call, blah blah blah.'

"The big thing for me going to Celtic would be the Celtic-Rangers game and whatever would be fans again, a great stadium, unbelievable club - but there were no fans and I was leaving Sheffield United.

"I can't even remember [how long the contract offered was], I must've had two years left at Sheffield United and they must have offered me two years, I don't know.

"He [Lennon] was ringing me while I was in London. Maybe that’s the one that I should have probably gone. But I think my heart took over again with Sheffield United, the loyalty to Sheffield United - paid the price! Celtic was probably the one that people probably don’t know about."

Hopeless pundit though and shut up when Klopp challenged him.
Klopp got irritated with it and the main tv guy before mcmanaman sucked up to him - unbelievable shit tv punditry
