Billy Sharp is a living legend and we should all savour every game he plays for us. Drastic ups and downs in form in his time with us, but is always good for a goal.

Keeps on proving me wrong. On saturday, when he came on, I said that I thought we really need to look to move on from 35 year old Billy Sharp. Up he popped in the box to score the equaliser with a classic Billy finish.

I do think that we need to plan for the Sharp-less future. But I also think that he could maybe have a swansong 20 goal season this year if we make the chances. The man is a natural born goalscorer, he is (really) one of our own, and he is simply one of the greatest goalscorers of this century. The numbers prove it.

I agree mate we do need to plan for a Billy free time which will come sooner than later but he is the only striker worth calling a striker we have. God knows where the next one is coming from. Cheapest striker we have got and the best one we have got by a country mile.

Wilder spent over 50m attempting to, and in the end, failing, to replace or add something to the squad that was there the whole time.

What we failed to do was up the ability of the rest of the team to create chances.

We did marvelous in seasons one. But the flat midfield proved to lack creation in the division below. It was only when Duffy was brought back in did we create once more.

So it become the situation once more. With very little creation through the middle and injuries to those on th left of the pitch, our main and almost only creative outlet was Baldock and most would readily admit the defensive side of the game is his strong point rather than the offensive part.

Billy's game has never relied on pace. It's his reading of the game and his intuition and subsequent to this his deadly finishing which sets him apart.

The Wilder / Warnock obsession of striker, striker, striker, you can never have enough strikers just to me shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the game at the top level.

It's helpful if strikers create for themselves but these are few and far between and such instances not enough to formulate a game plan around. Save these thoughts to Pélé in Escape to victory.

Setting aside the money lavished on Robinson, Mousset, McBurnie, then Burke and Brewster, how much did we spend on increasing midfield creation?

Not Berge. He is a defensive midfielder. At best Wilder tried to make him an all-rounder. The only money we spent on a creative midfield lock picker was the 5-6m we spent on Freeman. In the first season he was hardly used, then injured. In the second, despite the guy who was initially pencilled in to start ahead of being at loggerheads with the club, was scandalously sent away on loan with no reenforcement in sight.

Aside from JOC being injured, that's also a reason we failed to establish ourselves as a top flight side.

Yep, thought Billy really looked back to his best in his cameo last night. He'd said in preseason that he had plenty more to come and by the way he played last night, he certainly backed it up.

I looked around after we equalised and Derby attacked us straight away, there was no leader on the pitch, there was nobody encouraging and directing the players. But when Billy came on, he was straight into it. It seemed to encourage Fleck to talk more to Brunt as well and when Ndiaye came on, Billy was encouraging him too.

Billy gets goals, he's a cracking all round striker, but he's also the leader on the pitch. We need many more leaders on the pitch, big characters.

There are top quality players that have played until nearly 40.

The likes of Zlatan are still banging the goals in at 39 years old.

Billy comes back every year looking leaner and more fit. He is probably fitter now than he ever was in his 20's.
