Sky mention this stat constantly. The fact that he doesn’t play every game is more staggering when this stat is revealed. The whole tactical approach should revolve around getting Billy a goal so we don’t lose.

Just out of curiosity, anyone know why he was so wound up after scoring ?

UTB

'Previous club syndrome'? BS played 10 games and scored 2 goals while on loan at Reading from Southampton (26/9/2013 to 2/1/2014). Perhaps he got some stick from the Reading fans who wouldn't know a decent payer if one smacked them in the face? Or perhaps he was played out of position by the-then Reading manager, Nigel Adkins?

So far this season, Billy has started 16 games, been subbed eleven times and come on as sub. 4 times, so he's only played a full 90 minutes seven times. Quite remarkable, Jeff.

More fun facts about Billy (I do it so Danny04 doesn't have to...) :D

Billy Sharp made his Blades debut on 13th November 2004 in a 1-1 home draw with Watford. Billy wore the unfamiliar number 14 shirt and would only play one more game in this first spell at United – a 2-4 loss at Wolves on the last day of the season, May 8th 2005

Division One. Manager: Neil Warnock. P: 2 W: 0 D: 1 L: 1. Goals: 0

A loan spell at Rushden & Diamonds saw Sharp score 9 goals in 16 appearances before joining Scunthorpe at the end of the 2004-05 season for £100,000 and Billy’s goal-scoring exploits really took off. 53 goals in 82 appearances for The Iron meant that The Blades re-signed Billy for the second time. Newly-relegated from The Premier League and with Neil Warnock now departed, new Blades boss Bryan Robson paid Scunthorpe around £2m for Sharp on 4th July, 2007.

The Second Coming:

On the opening day of the 2007-8 season (August 11th), Billy wore the number 9 shirt in a 2-2 home draw with Colchester. This was a miserable, disjointed season which saw United finish 9th in The Championship, Robson depart on 12th February and Kevin Blackwell take charge shortly afterwards. Despite making 29 appearances (including 8 as sub.), Billy didn’t notch his first goal until March 11th 2008 in a 2-1 home win v. Coventry. He would end this season with four League goals in 29 appearances (plus 2 in the Carling League Cup Third Round v. Morecambe on 25th September 2007)

The 2008-09 season started better for Sharp with him scoring a ‘perfect’ hat-trick (right-foot, left-foot and header) in the second game of the season – a 3-0 home win v QPR on August 16. However, this was proving a season of unrest and disruption for United and, when Sharp scored the equaliser in a 1-1 home draw v. Coventry on September 16, it would be his last league goal of the season (although he would score v. Leyton Orient (1) and Hull City (1) in the FA Cup) – and his last Blades goal for almost seven years.

Division One. Managers: Bryan Robson, Kevin Blackwell. P: 51 W: 21 D: 10 L: 20. Goals: 8

In July 2009, United placed Billy on the transfer list and he joined Doncaster Rovers on an initial loan spell where he scored 15 goals in 33 games.

During the summer of 2009, United rejected a £1m bid from Rovers for Sharp, accepted a £1m offer from Burnley (which Billy turned down) and finally The Blades accepted a £1.15m offer from Doncaster where Billy would score a further 25 goals in 49 appearances.

The Third Coming:

After spells at Southampton (9 goals in 17 games) and Leeds (5 goals in 33 games) and loan spells at Forest (10 goals in 39 apps.), Reading (2 goals in 10), and Doncaster (4 goals in 16), Billy ‘came home’ for a third time on 25th July, 2015 when manager Nigel Adkin paid an ‘undisclosed fee’ for Sharp and Billy would only miss two games in Adkins’ one and only season with the Blades (in League One). Making his third ‘début’ for the Blades in the disastrous 0-4 defeat at Gillingham on the opening day of the season, Billy would go on to become United’s top scorer 21 goals in a total of 44 league appearances (including 2 coming on as sub.). United would finish this season in the third tier in 11th position and Adkins left to be replaced by Chris Wilder.

In the 2016-17 season, United finished as champions of League One with a total of 100 points. For the second season running, Billy was the Blades’ top scorer with 30 goals in 46 league appearances (including two on as sub.)

The 2017-18 season saw United back in The Championship and Billy was the Blades’ second-highest scorer (after Leon Clarke, 19 goals) with 13 league goals from 34 games (including 6 on as sub.) plus one goal in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup (1-0 win at home to Preston, 27/1/2018).

So far in the 2018-19 season (up to Reading away on 8th December), Billy is easily United’s top scorer with 11 league goals plus one v. Hull City in Round 1 of the Carabao Cup (14/8/2018)

In summation:

· Playing under Chris Wilder (100 League appearances), Billy has scored 54 goals and United have never lost a League game under Wilder when Billy has scored!

· On December 8th, Billy Sharp scored in a 2-0 win at Reading. This was the 40th consecutive League game where Sharp had scored and United had not lost (starting at home to Rochdale on 13th Aug. 2016) and the 21st consecutive League game he had scored and United won the game (starting at home to Bolton on Feb. 25th 2017).

· On 27th October 2018, Billy scored a hat-trick in the 4-2 home win over Wigan Athletic, his first Blades hat-trick since the aforementioned one v. QPR on 16th August 2008.

· Despite playing in five ‘Sheffield Derbies’, Billy has yet to score in one – or play on the winning side.

· Billy Sharp became just the third player to score 200 career goals in English league football this century, when he scored twice against former club Leeds in Sheffield United's 2-1 win on Feb. 10, 2018. His first goal in this game came after just 70 seconds and when he scored a penalty later in this same game it was goal number 201. Since then, he has scored another 14 league goals so his total now stands at 215. Sharp joins Rickie Lambert (219) and Wayne Rooney (208) in the 21st century 200 club. Just five more to go for the record!

The Third Coming (so far...)

Sharp's son, Luey Jacob, died from gastroschisis when two days old in October 2011. Sharp gained great respect throughout the world of football as he continued playing immediately following the tragedy which was famously marked by him scoring the goal against Middlesbrough just two days after the death, and then five days later scoring away at Ipswich. Notable tributes included: the Middlesbrough manager, Tony Mowbray, said he was delighted Sharp had scored and called the goal against his club "A goal from heaven"; the Ipswich fans applauded him on scoring against them and chanted Luey's name; the Sheffield United fans gave applause for him in the 24th minute (Sharp's club number at United was 24) in an away game at Stevenage; Derby County players wore black armbands in their game against Cardiff City.(oh, and Wednesday resorted to their usual vile behaviour).

Along with his partner Jade Fair, Sharp set up The Luey Jacob Sharp Foundation, a charity with the aim of raising money for research into gastroschisis and a support network for families affected by the condition.

In December 2012, Sharp's partner Jade gave birth to their second son, Leo.

In December 2015, Sharp's third child, a son named Milo Thomas, was born.

If what you say is right (not doubting it btw) then Sharp has played 90 mins 5 times, not 7. About 1/4 of the time.

This really does emphasise my point about “maximising” the output from our 1 prolific scorer, without pipe dreaming about the £10m striker everyone craves yet clearly ain’t hapnin !!!

Sorry for being pedantic, but that second pic is from Blackburn away. Ollie had the armband all game on Sat.

You’re right! Should have spotted that – seems one from the report at the time reused it.

Here’s the real one...

Not so fast! Billy was also subbed on 90 minutes v Norwich (H) and Rotherham (A) so technically played for 90 minutes (I'm not including 'time added on' as even I'm not that sad...although some might disagree). Therefore BS has spent at total of 23 hrs and 19 minutes 'on the pitch' this season for his 11 goals which is just over 2 hours per goal 'game time'. Lazy bastard.

Let's play him every minute of every game ,it's not like we miss him when he's not fit is it?

And I'm sure he could be the first footballer in his thirtys to have some kind of immunity from Injuries through fatigue

I don't hear Billy complaining about not playing
