In the ten minutes he was on the pitch looked our best forward on the day by some distance,

If anyone “has to start” it probably should be Billy.
Not sure if he has to start but he was good when he came on. Leon was very quiet

Should start with Duffy and Clarke!
Play like the early part of last season, get the goals early, then defend!, we played the opposite today, we were defensive, it doesn't suit us, we lost, end of.
Please take note Chris, you know how to fix this!!

Agreed, I thought we played too many hoof balls, particularly in the first half. Get the ball at the back and whack it foreword without even looking at where it was going was how it looked to me at times. We’re better than that but if that’s what the plan was our forwards aren’t fast enough for those tactics. I know Billy isn’t the quickest but when he came on we looked a bit more like our team of last season at its most dangerous.

I'm assuming we're not including McGoldrick in this conversation. So basically, Sharp was better than Clarke today - that I agree with

McGoldrick ran his bollocks off

I am struggling to think of anything Mcgoldrick did of note with the ball. He did put a lot more effort in than Clarke who was woeful.

Sharp and McG far and away best strikers in preseason. I think Billy's cat has pissed on Wilder's marigolds because otherwise I can't see why he wasn't on.

If we create little then sure, he'll be anonymous really but that's the same for anyone really, but there's no one I trust more at United to put away whatever chances we do get than Billy Sharp.

If Billy had started with McG I honestly believe we'd have at least a point on the board now.

I don’t think Mcgoldrick did a great deal or looked any sort of threat. He was better than Clarke but Connor Sammon could have been better than Clarke today.

Billy Sharp is a far better striker/footballer than Leon Clarke is.

Those nine goals in five games last year understandably earned Leon some clemency, but surely that has been surpassed by his numerous mediocre performances since?

His continued selection, leads me to believe he must have some fairly incriminating photographs of Chris Wilder ;)

Was you saying that last season ...think not ....Sharp is miles past his sell by date ...unfortunately Clarke is close be hind him ...we have what we have ...get on with it ...

Yes, actually I was. Can’t be arsed to look for it, but by all means, knock yourself out, it’ll be on here somewhere ;)

Really? Why the hell would you pick a striker that actually scores goals with strike rate of 1 in every 2 games? Delusional post.

The problem was the way we played for sixty minutes wouldn't have suited him at all. When he came on he was initially battling back rather than being in the box. Duffy should have come on at the same time but most of the crosses into the box whoever was on the pitch were poor.

Quickly running through the forum, Stevens, Basham , Lundstram, Clarke, Evans have been shite. Well, Fleck didn't have much of an impact and in the first half Stevens covered for poor defending from O'Connel more than once. But they have they're own songs so are presumably exempt from criticism.

It was clear from ten minutes in, Swansea's pace would do us if anything was going to.

Unless we get a striker with pace, regardless of anything else, it's going to be a long season.

A lot of people have commented on O’Connell’s poor showing tbf.

Possibly bounding around in a field with a gay unicorn?

Said before the game Duffy and Sharp should start. Said at the end of the game Duffy and Sharp should have started. I really dont understand todays selection.

Let me get this straight, we just conceded 2 set plays against a Boro squad, and now we want to drop Sharp into the mix instead of Leon. It hurts me reading this message board at times.

Sharp isn't a defender you know. We have just spent £4mil on a defender for this sort of problem.

Agreed the defending was awful, but maybe we wouldn’t have had to defend so many corners if we had actually played our best players and set up to have some sort of attacking threat

I was at Boro last night and can say apart from Basham the other 10 places for the QPR game should be up for grabs . Any one of the remaining 10 should have no complaints about being dropped after that shambles .

Sunderland fan here at work is adamant that Billy is going to Sunderland ??
If Wilder isn’t going to play him, he may as well. He’s too influential to leave on the bench, he likes to be the main man and having him moping around with his bottom lip out won’t do anyone any good. There’s a danger this could turn into a Rodgers/Gerrard or Gullit/Shearer situation.

Wilder wanted another Striker in to add to the three we have. No way would we let Sharp go without getting 2 in and that is looking increasingly unlikely.
