Billy Sharp

We don't need to look far to see what and where we would be without Billy. Just up the M1 in fact. Bratfud have drawn an astonishing 17 games so far which has totally derailed what looked like a possible automatic promotion push early doors. An extra goal in just 5 of those matches would have seen them comfortably in 2nd place now. That's what Billy Sharp does, and that's why strikers cost millions.
They turn 'hard to beat' teams into 'hard to contain' teams.

I used to watch Billy play as a lad as my nephew was in the Blades academy team with him.

Happy to put my hand up for the first one. I generally don't think strikers or keepers should be captains, as I think their ability to lead is reduced by the fact they can't stamp authority onto the majority of the pitch. He's done a great job taking on this responsibility.

Yes but Higdon was captain and a striker and...yup, you're right.

Hands up, who said he shouldn't have been made captain and should also be dropped?

I hold my hands up on the first one as I thought it was done for the wrong reasons (reasons of bladeyness and PR- same as my perception of Wilders' appointment at the time). I still suspect there was an element of this to it with season ticket sales a priority. That said, all's well that ends well.

I know its the grunters, but never been a fan of comparisons like that. They play in the level above - too easy of a comeback.

Id prefer;

Sharp - 26
Madine ('Fat Pig'), van Veen (8m man), Holmes ('we should have signed him') - 25 goals

I know. One reason why I didn't tweet it.

Pointing out a certain possibility might really boil some piss here: maybe, just maybe, we are witnessing the fruits of a wholly successful, flawlessly planned and executed, relations-repairing PR job...

If anyone says that Billy Sharps background doesn't make his prolific performances this season that little bit more special, then they're either lying or devoid of a soul.

By the same token it's also proof that "Bladeyness" doesn't exist, certainly not uniquely at United, and is merely a term used by arseholes.
Because if it was a real phenomenon then Billy would be elevated way beyond what is realistic and put upon a false pedestal. Yet the fans have been quite reluctant to even give him credit for what he's already done.
I agree pal...... i am a big follower of youth at our club and there is nothing better than a home grown player born in Sheffield, that is a Blade playing for our club.... if they are good enough.
I am then pronounced a bladeyblade for even thinking it....... pisses me right off to be honest.

Maybe. But given McCabe's track record with managerial appointments and what appeared to be the motivating factors with this appointment and early announcement re the captaincy, I had my fair share of doubts about the footballing thought that had gone into it. Thankfully, whilst none of us really know the merits of McCabe's decision making, what we do know is that the result has been fantastic for what feels like the first time in forever. And I for one am thoroughly enjoying it.

Yes, I imagine it's more of a "stopped clock is right twice a day" situation, to be honest. Good laugh though.

Hmmmmmm, I wonder who would be the Accuser General of all things Bladey Blade?

Keep up the great work with the U23 reports and FWIW, I agree completely with you. To have good young players is great, to have brought them through your own youth system is even better. The icing on the icing, is when they are local lads and genuine Blades.

I can't understand why Billy isn't even more liked. He didn't have to drop down a divsion and could still be plying a trade in the Championship on similar money. Credit to the lad and the effect that he has had as captain.

I think Billy carries a bit of baggage from his two previous spells. He decided to leave us for Scunty, which some people didn't like, then struggled to score when he came back during a period of our history most want to forget.

Funny how life seems to come round full circle. When I first went to the Lane I watched a striker who'd come through our youth team, only to be sold and then bought back a few years later, smashing goals in the third division.

I hold my hands up soooo high, and also apologise to Billy and CW. I didn't like forwards as Captains and I thought some of his early performances were, well, meah! I HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO KNOW NOWT ABOUT FOOTBALL! As far as I am concerned now, he has been inspirational to the rest of the team and led by example. CW just keeps on getting most of it right (well, him and AK). We are truly fortunate to have all three. If that means I suffer from bladeybladeness then.....good!

I think even fans of other clubs joined us in scuppering the sad piggy twats by voting for Sharp.

I love that he's happy to acknowledge "what sort of player he is." He knows he's not going to make his own chances, and he knows that his success is dependent on the team making the chances for him. He's an instinctive poacher, and they are rare and expensive at any level. We are very lucky that he is a genuine Blade, and wants to play here and lead us to promotion.
