Isn't it fucking brilliant, seeing a boyhood Blade as captain, absolutely ripping this league a new one and leading us to the championship?

I can't put into works how happy I am about how this seasons gone. It's not sinking in yet - but a blade as manager, blade as captain and top scorer.

It's about time he got a bit more credit - without him we wouldn't be anywhere near where we are now.

Here's to the fat lad from Sheffield, the best striker in the division and the only good thing Adkins ever did. This means as much to you as it does to us and I'll never feel prouder than seeing you lift that League One winners trophy in a couple of months time.

Up the fucking Blades.

Can't believe Adkins signed him. Must have been a mistake

If anyone says that Billy Sharps background doesn't make his prolific performances this season that little bit more special, then they're either lying or devoid of a soul.

By the same token it's also proof that "Bladeyness" doesn't exist, certainly not uniquely at United, and is merely a term used by arseholes.
Because if it was a real phenomenon then Billy would be elevated way beyond what is realistic and put upon a false pedestal. Yet the fans have been quite reluctant to even give him credit for what he's already done.

Having a Blades supporting manager, a Blades supporting top goalscorer and a whole team that has a great attitude, plays good football and wins regularly is something that we never thought we'd see. It's incredible really. Got to try and enjoy it while it lasts and not take it for granted. These next 12 games should be a great time to be a supporter.

I'd love to know Billy's honest thoughts on Adkins. Bet it's an interesting story.

He gave a strong hint in the Guardian's piece last autumn that Adkins wasn't up to the task – fairly clear reading between the lines that there were a bunch of wasters in the squad, and Adkins wasn't capable of handling it. I suspect Adkins's managerial style exacerbated the problem.

Something seemed to click at the end of August, as United claimed their first win and clawed their way back into form, the significant turnover of players in the summer (13 in, 14 out) settling as the team meshed together. So what’s different this season under Wilder, to last under Adkins?

“Day to day, he’s very competitive,” says Sharp of the new manager. “He wants winners on the training ground so it breeds good habits for a matchday.

“Looking back on last season we didn’t have that – we sort of strolled through the week and hoped that we’d win on Saturday, and you can’t do that in football. You’ve got to work hard to be winners on a matchday. I’ve said before that a lot of the players last season let the manager down, but it is also up to the manager to get the best out of the players. I know the manager now is very good at that – if someone is low on confidence, he somehow gets them up again.”

If in the championship, he will quite rightly at least start the season as first choice striker, but we will need someone with pace and guile up there with him to cause problems. Hopefully he can keep bagging in the division up from here

If we could find a big, strong and quick forward to go with him Billy could easily flourish. We need someone in the Diego Costa mould... They aren't easy to find outside the Prem because everyone is looking for that player.

Omar Bogle was my ideal January signing for that reason, but there are other options - John Akinde, James Vaughan, Lee Gregory to name but a few. We will have to take a risk.

We will have to sign 2 strikers to make a real fist of it, can't rely solely on Billy for another year. It'd be unfair on him and a huge huge gamble.

Makes me wonder "what might have been?" had he had a manager who knew how to utilise his abilities on his previous periods with us.

I particularly liked hearing Wilder pouring praise on his leadership off the field as well. We're seeing a real committed leader and club captain. The players work as hard for him as they know he does for them.

Just to add, I wasn't an initial supporter of making him captain. Being the narrow visioned sod I am, I would have preferred a big bastard at the back 'who can see the game' barking out the orders. #9872342734 on the ever lengthening 'Things I know less than Wilder' list.

Billy, like so many things about the club right now, makes me really really fucking proud.

I very much hope that IF we get promoted the issue of whether Billy can deliver at the level realistically required dosen't become messy. It would be terrible if he lost the captaincy due to not being first choice. I know this is one for the future and Wilder will deal with all issues of who will and won't cut it in the proper manner.

Bloody Hell
Pinchy is likely to have an aneurysm from that post. :o

Far too much Bladey Bladeness.
Tone it the fuck down, won't you?

69 Stone? He's not that fat, whatever the prick Madine says.

Well he may have gone for a second Chinese dinner on Saturday night. :)

It is annoying that EA Sports rarely put his stats up above 70 on FIFA despite how many goals he has got over the last two seasons.

Hands up, who said he shouldn't have been made captain and should also be dropped?

I agree with most of what has been said on this. I have no doubt that Billy will be our top scorer in the Champ next year, realistically I think 17-22 goals. Our success or failure will depend on others pitching in, will need another first string striker to notch 15, second string strikers to pitch in with another 15 between them. I guess the question is how many we would get from midfield and defence. Lets say 3 from each of the centre backs assuming we stay 532 then that gives us 9. So that leaves the midfield to get say 20-25 between them which on current averages looks a big ask. Oh wait I forgot 6 from a marauding RWB that leaves only 14 left to get from Midfield. They may as well give uis next yes trophy as well as this years :)

Billy Sharp - 26 goals
Forestieri, Fletcher, Hooper, Winnall & Rhodes - 26 goals combined
I know its the grunters, but never been a fan of comparisons like that. They play in the level above - too easy of a comeback.

Id prefer;

Sharp - 26
Madine ('Fat Pig'), van Veen (8m man), Holmes ('we should have signed him') - 25 goals

Happy to put my hand up for the first one. I generally don't think strikers or keepers should be captains, as I think their ability to lead is reduced by the fact they can't stamp authority onto the majority of the pitch. He's done a great job taking on this responsibility.
