Can you imagine Deane Agana and Sharp up front this season , with the defence and midfield we have , Unstoppable !

Deane was unstoppable and terrorised the top defenders. Billy deserved a better crack at the top division so we will probably never know how good he could have been.

Billy is better than he’s ever been, you can see what coaching and fitness does , billy has never had real pace and never will have. He would of been and England international if he had Agana’s pace.

Billy for me ,down to the fact he never really wanted to leave .Deane did

Can’t make my mind up if I like Brian Sharp or Billy Deane the most! So I’m going for equal best with Deeeaannnnoo slightly edging it.
P.S. can we add Littlejohn to the poll?

This argument is really down to preference as both played at different times at club, Edwards was poacher supreme but had neither players team ethic. But we've had plenty more great strikers Billy Dearden for one he was fearless, and was always in the muck and bullets.

First Blades player I saw in the flesh (so to speak) as I walked up the steps on to John Street terrace was Deano.

That’s not the reason I voted for him, much as I love Billy, but on balance.. Brian I feel offered more.

Isn’t Billeh’s next league goal for us his 100th blade’s league goal? Asking for a friend. 👍

Wow this vote is actually embarrassing. Is it serious?

Deane had pace, power and presence. Even PL defenders were quite fearful of him.
Think of a stronger faster McBurnie with better heading and finishing ability.
Deane was excellent in the air and decent at putting in crosses from the wing.
Think his weakness was a lack of a ruthless or nasty streak...Deane often came across as too nice...calm/ almost gentle temperament.
He was on the fringes of the England squad....Sharp hasn’t been anywhere near playing for England.

Although Sharp is no where near his level....I would say that Sharp is a better finisher....but his style is more of a goal poacher....but he is so reliant on being set up.
Also I’ve been really impressed with Sharps character and captains influence in the dressing room. Both deserve the plaudits.

I was just thinking how BD and OM both share this thing of not looking much like a footballer. An awkward gait, all limbs flailing about. It's my favourite thing watching old footage of Deano, how unlike a decent footballer he looks like, at first it seems he's won the spectator's raffle to wear no 10 for the afternoon... then suddenly he's skinned 5 defenders and the ball's in the back of the net and you realise you're watching one the the best of his generation.

Mcburnie has at least mastered the not-looking-like-a-footballer part.

Made me smile reading that....agree Deano looked so gangley in his early career. He was a bit like Bambi on ice when he first joined us.
He did have this McBurnie-seque style about him but he was quicker, more athletic and a better finisher.
Obviously after a few years Deano bulked up a bit...filling out his frame and stopped looking gangley.

that said did we ever have anyone better than Edwards in a one on one?

Edwards was very different to modern day strikers. Edwards was a 100% goal poacher.
Lived for goals, extremely selfish, never passed to anyone and always hanging around the goal area looking to score.
I remember many games where Edwards was having a poor game,,,,in fact he hardly touched the ball In some games
Then bam....a tap in from close range and we’d win 1-0.

He was permanently on the shoulder of the last defender looking to make a run.
He must have been caught offside 10 times every match.
but when he did beat the offside trap...many Blades were virtually celebrating before he’d scored.
Edwards was brilliant at scoring when clean through with just the keeper to beat.
Don’t think Edwards ever came into our half and never pressed or defended.

Think Edwards had similarities to Sharp in that both lacked physicslity, lacked pace and both are very reliant on team mates setting them up.
Edwards was really lucky to have Colin Morris who created so many chances for him.
Their strength was that both players had this knack of always getting their shots or headers on target....at least make the keeper work.
