Hey All,

What do you think about Billy Sharp's form this season, I think he has been brilliant following up from his great season last year as well. I also found an article singing his praises - worth a read if you have a minute.

Yeah, i've never understood the fondness for bashing Sharp, he's easily one of, if not the best striker in League One and would easily be a regular starter for a number of Championship clubs, really don't know how many of our players you could say that about.

Sharp is not the same player as last season right now, not sure how many championship sides would employ him on current form. Not sure what it is but there is something missing. Hope it's a blip because there ain't a great deal backing him up.

It's not Sharp bashing to say he looks slow and unfit and doesn't make a great contribution to the team in most games- it's just fact. You can try blaming the service but we've been making a lot of chances in recent games but he hasn't been able to finish them. Despite this he is still the most likely player to score and that's a positive reason why he has to be included for now. But the point is, we need to be thinking ahead and looking for his replacement because he won't go on forever and I don't think we should over-depend on him for this season. To me that's not slagging him off - it's just reading the signs and being ready.

Fair play! Not even too cuntishly clickbaity. Six different names all on the same page without having to click onto each one separately??!?!?!??????

But it just shows you how wrong an outsider can get it. Quick glance, 5 goals, 'great' season. But if you'd watched us you'd know that's not been the case at all. Great would be a ridiculous exaggeration.

You haven't seen the best of it; look at Fred's other articles, specifically 'Lower League Creatives' and oh my god buddy look at who is no. 4 on that list, I could tell you but it would take the fun out of it. All I can say is set your face to shocked, to laughter and then to anger in that sequence!

We need Sharp to score 20-25 goals and I think he will. The problem is, I think we also could do with another striker getting maybe 15-20 goals and other players seriously chipping in if we're looking for automatic promotion, and it's hard to see who they will be right now.

Maybe we'll have a better picture when Clarke and Lavery are fit, but there doesn't seem to be any other players outside the 4 strikers right now that I'd back to contribute more than a goal or three.

No worries , we'll just keep sending Scougall on with a neck-brace & a spine-board for protection so he can get cynically up-ended & Billy can slot home the resulting penalty

I wouldn't say he's having a great season – his overall game has been poorer compared to last season, though in short bursts he's made some important pieces of play, not least with his goals so far. We know he can do better though, and he'll no doubt know it too. While not at his best, he gets far more stick than is deserved mind, and certainly shouldn't be dropped.

Sharp looks worse than last year because this team is way better, he was always going to shine in that dogshit team of wage thieves...

You are correct Cerberus . What you have just said isn't slagging him off . Thats a well thought out and reasoned statement . I could of course take you to task for failing to single out any other player at Bramall Lane in the same way ..... they ALL will need replacing at some point afterall ...... so why single sharpe out . But i wont ;)

Saying he's ready for the knackers yard IS slagging him off though . So why " slag " him in one post and then perform an abrupt volte face in another ?

Make yer mind up

It’s because most people want to see pace and height in the team. Billy has neither. But he’s still a good footballer and whilst not in spectacular form, is proving his worth to an acceptable standard so far this season.

I agree that there will be a need for a long term replacement.

Same with Clarke even though we’ve only just signed him. If only we had two 19 year old strikers coming through with loads of potential to back them up and eventually succeed them….. oh wait….

I think somebody has just been reading the assist charts. Still though, not gonna be too hard on the guy. He's gone to the trouble to write something and is clearly trying to make it as a sports journo. We can't all know everything about every player and sometimes, we are persuaded by what we read about a player.

I think if Duffy keeps playing in the position he is, he’ll be good for 5 or more goals this season. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bash get around 4 either.

Strikers . The only area the Academy has failed to produce the goods !

Weird that

Fair point, but then surely we've also got to give him credit for managing to score 20+ goals in that dogshit team?

True .

I think it's odds on that Sharpe will get more this season than he did last season too . ( injuries aside of course )

Not bad for a knackers yard Bladey blade ;)

You're forgetting the brilliant Jordan Slewwww CHL.

I was told that he was going to be the next Ian Wright. Did he make it as a TV pundit, I've lost track of him?

Amazingly, at Plymouth. Even more amazingly, he's scored for them.
Hopefully Jake Wright jnr might be more successful with us.

My point was about Che and DCL although you're right, it is weird. Slew looked the part as a youth. As did Diego. As has DCL. It remains to be seen whether any of them "make it" yet though. Meanwhile, we've had a conveyer belt of right backs.

Naughton
Walker
Brown (until his Evans tweet)
Lowton.
Jagielka also played there for a while.

I think we have a use for all 4 of our strikers. If they all manage to get full fitness, we will no longer have a reason to play people that are out of form. Being able to swap strikers out that are struggling, is something we haven't had for a long time.
