All aware that our captain has just achieved the honour of scoring more goals in the championship than any other player, but has anyone any idea of players who scored the most in the old second division or for that matter where he sits in all time leading goal scorers.

Incidentally, I owe an apology to the guy who sits in front of me who when I said he needs dropping, always said just you wait !

Well I Agree, for a guy who was always offside and no pace he has done very well!

He’s been garbage last couple of months tbf

Our own ex manager Arthur Rowley can't be far off the the all time second division top scorer. He scored over 200 second tier goals for Leicester in the 50s

Billy's probably spent eight or nine seasons playing for clubs that weren't in the second tier.

With Billy you can't teach instinct which is his main attribute , there are few strikers with it others have different attributes such as pace or size that give you the advantage but he has always been a player that pops up right time right place and probably 1 in 3 or 4 chances it's a goal. With others that's more like 1 in 7 or even 10

I'm going to be a bit contrary and say that you can teach instinct. Or at least you can train players for it. I'm sure that Billy would be one of the first to say that he spent hours and hours as a kid just practicing his finishing over and over again. I suspect that not many other players have the patience and dedication to stick with that type of practice for too long though.

I see what you mean in that sense, I think it comes down to the brain of the player, I bet most of the goals Billy has scored are due to the practice the technique but the quality he has over others in the box he is able to judge the space and probably doesn't need to take that extra second or so to think of the finish as it's muscle memory instinct similar to a cricketer catching or tennis player hitting.
