Billy rejects Burnley!

Fair play to Billy the Blade for screwing us over but Paddy moving on for a huge pay increase means he should be shot at dawn

Isn't it a case of both players looking after number one? He'll take our money for a year and take his chances on a decent move next summer with no transfer fee. Same as Kenny - maximising income. At the back of Billy's mind perhaps will be a hopefully quick sacking for Blackwell in the autumn so I can totally understand Billy wanting to stay for a bit. Having said that, Burnley obviously haven't offered him what he thinks he is worth - otherwise he'd have gone no doubt.

If this has shafted Blackwell 's squad building then there'll be no tears from me obviously - hopefully it will hasten his departure. I hope you enjoy listening to his pathetic excuses - he's got his first one in the bank already.

Just not sure why the reaction to the two is so different.

Really?

I would have thought that the last twelve months might have something to do with it.

One spent last season scoring more than any of our strikers, therefore increasing his value to himself and us, and we didn't have to even pay him to do it.
The other spent it on his arse having dragged his and our name through the shit by being a drugs cheat and spunking money from our club as he was doing it.

The Star reckons Billy is staying, because he's a Blade he's turned down the big money of Burnley for one more shot at making it at United. At least that appears to be the official line. If it means that we lose him in 12 months then thats the risk the club takes. He'll no doubt end up at Donny next year if thats the case.

Good on him if the official line is true. I've heard lots of stuff about how he won't play for Blackie etc, so if he's sticking it out, then I hope he keeps his mouth shut, bides his time and works his socks off to make that starting place his own.

I think we all want him to do well at the lane and lets hope he does it!

Just out of interest when did Billy say he wouldn't play for Blackwell? I know it gets quoted a lot but I don't think I've ever seen the source.

Ta

Not sure, its just something I keep reading as hearsay from people apparently in the know, so i thought i'd stick it in as FACT ;)

He said it at the same time he said he wouldn't play for Warnock or Robson

There was a quote while he was at Donny, something along the lines of that he doesn't appear to be favoured by Blackwell and that he doesn't think he will play for him again.

Will see if I can find anything.

Robbie's account of things is the correct one. I listened to the interview myself on RS. He never said that he would 'refuse to play for Blackwell' - it has been misconstrued. He simply said that he felt he didnt have a future at Sheffield United while Kevin Blackwell is manager, essentially suggesting that he is not favoured by the manager.

Billy most certainly does want to play for United but he knows he either has to change KB's opinion or hope that the manager is shown the exit before he is.

Thats exactly the way i've always seen it too.

Blackwell didn't see him playing a role last season and sent him out to prove himself, which he has done. So If this is all true, then he's proven himself, so therefore deserves a chance to repeat the form in a Blades shirt.

I remember O'Driscoll saying that his whole game plan centered around Billy and creating chances for him. Blackwell certainly won't play him as the focal point of our attack so it's hard to see how anything will be different.

I hope that Billy get's a decent chance in the team not like what everyone on here think's is going to happen. If he does get sh-t on again why don't all the Blades supporter's who want billy to succeed in our colours then send e-mail's to Blackwell on his e-mail site (no swearing or threat of violence) in the text's & let Blackwell know how we feel about Billy. Also isn't it a pleasant change for a footballer to want to play for his club, not for money but for PRIDE, especially with what's just happened with Kenny. I just hope he can be successful with us & not another club, he's the same type of forward as Keith Edwards (not as good yet?). When we had Keith Edwards as our forward, we had 2 decent forwards then Hatton & Edwards (1981-82) & also an excellent right winger in Colin Morris (1984), how I wish we could still see these on our pitch every saturday again (sorry for being nostalgic). He has proved he can score in this league (last season), I would have Bogdanavich as an attcking/midfielder just behind the 2 forwards with Cresswell & Sharpe, with Ward on the right wing coming in field to help these 3.

The issue may simply boil down to the £1m a year contract that he currently has. That being factored into the down to £6m (£8m at most) for salaries statement from Birch, must seriously affect recruitment. It will not have gone unnoticed in the football world either, so either someone he doesn't want to sell gets sold (Henderson) or Blackwell pleads with the Birch and the board for a little more this season for salaries; or Blackwell gets transfer attention for players you would've thought weren't available.

Ive heard a lot about Leon Britton I just hope he is half as good as Michael Brown was, then we might have a season when we pass the ball on the floor & not huffing up all the time, when Blackwell first came that last half of the season was a joy to watch the BLADES. So why's he changed to being boring & predictable every match. Also that season with Brownie I do think it was down more to Stuart McCall letting him be able to roam how i wish we had signed him earlier in his career?

You all just wait, Leon will be teeing them up and Billy will be putting them away.

Only if he's timing his runs far better than he was 12-18 months ago !

Just can't see it personally, unless he has an unbelievable pre-season, I can't see him forcing his way into the starting XI under Blackwell. Having said that, it would be interesting to see, for example, if Ched and Bily could play together.

Doing what most footballers will do. Sit out a very lucrative contract and pocket a nice free transfer. Thinking only of himself and maximising his ££££. Fair play to him I would do the same.

Hang on a fooking minute, it looks to me that all he wants is to play for us again and his motivations are based purely on this! He isn't looking for a pay rise - quite the opposite, probably! He'll gladly go out on loan and lift the wage-bill burden. What's the problem?

Oh, and Cooperblade, I honestly don't get the comparison with Paddy. Could they be any different?

Agreed. I think this is a big blow to our plans this summer. £1m+ that won't be coming in and £500k that remains on the wage bill.

Difficult to see us paying any transfer fees without cash coming in and Sharp offered a great chance to cut the wage bill significantly with zero impact on the first team.

Hopefully he's just playing hardball to force a move to Doncaster. If we have to sacrifice a few hundred thousand on the fee to allow us to build a back 4 then we might have to let him win this one.

Really bad news, we could do with that 10k a week off the wage bill. Maybe Burnley weren't willing to match it?

Looked like he was timing his runs pretty well at Donny. Get a midfielder who can pick a pass and who knows, even Ched might look like a player :easy::header::easy:

:gallop:

Blackwell's comments on the OS make interesting reading. He sounds pleased with Billy's decision.

It adds to our firepower and takes away from a rival Burnley,a good thing. It's up to Billy he proved he could bang them in at Donny now he has to do it for his club!

If Billy and Hendo don't leave it will but a seriously block on some of the transfer moves. It won't stop the Simmo deal nor the the deal for a left back either, but they will effect what we are able to offer and what we can spend.

IF he stays(which personnelly would love)i would play him in a strolling roll like dane whitehouse ended up playing his latter days at utd.Give him that role to (float around) the attackers, but in front of the midfield.

I think this would be a disaster! He needs to be in and around the 6 yard box or on the shoulder of the defender not trying to link the front two and the midfield, he's not Teddy Sheringham!

Interesting,
If KB won't play sharp due to these rumours of a fallout and leaves him out, the fans will just get on his back and McCabe might have to step in. It's in KB best interest to play sharp if he's here. Now does he keep playing hoofball and not give sharp decent service and risk loosing due to "playing with 10 men" or does he change the style of play so he keeps his job???

KB won't play Billy because he doesn't think he is good enough to alter the entire team around him. If he didn't play people he'd fallen out with Wardy wouldn't of come back into the team so quickly.

To be fair, from the goals I saw - there wasn't much timing of runs. He was in the box receiving the ball.

He is what we knew in junior school as a 's**t-liner'. Of course there was no offside rule in the school playground so he would have prospered there. Unfortunately, for us, he spent too much of his time either on his arse or illegally behind the opposition back line to be of much use.
