Some people don’t understand the situation. They are totally different types of strikers, so can’t be compared based just on goal scoring stats.

Leon is a much better allround striker than Billy.

Billy is a much better finisher/ goal scorer than Leon.

With Leon up front he’ll cause more danger, more physicality, better target man, more flick ons, better hold up play so we’ll create more and be more dangerous.

With Billy we won’t do this as well but he’s more likely to score.

Swings and roundabouts, they bring different things to the party.
Why is it only between Billy and Leon who start? Why can’t they both start?

For me, it’s Billy and another against the pigs but it’s not my choice.

Billy can hold the ball up if it’s played into his feet and is a better striker than Leon, just for clarity. You have to be able to do most things consistently to be considered a better striker but that seems to go out of the window when some have their favourites.

I know where Tyler was coming from regards Sharp because people go out of their way to stick up for Leon, even on a Billy thread.

It will be more about attitude and luck on the night I think.
There's a difference growing in the League table, but on the same pitch at the same time there is no favourite at all

Might depend on who scores in the next 2 matches to be honest. Clarke might go on a little run now, but Billy looks like a man possessed this season and I can see him getting circa 20 goals. Hopefully they both make a showing and both score. 'Billy the Pig' and 'Wednesday Reject' they will be chanting.....please shut them up lads

In any case the Pigs have enough on worrying about what we have behind Sharpe or Clarke. McG, Duffy, Fleck, Norwood and our marauding defenders. My god, it will be like watching lobotomised mannequins trying to catch one of those really annoying house flies, that sees everything coming in slowed down time. Our first touch, skill and movement should run them ragged.

Are you for real? What absolute toss!

I’m Sharps biggest fan, really pleased that’s he’s achieved so much at his club, he’s earnt himself legendary status and is the best finisher here in the Edwards mould.

Some of our fans logically predicted that a year older his form would drop off this season but if anything he seems slightly fitter and sharper than last season.

However you’re falling into the trap of thinking being a striker is all about scoring goals.
There’s much more to it.....it’s how that striker helps a team to win.

Next you’ll be saying you know more about football management than Wilder and his back room staff armed with the latest technology. If Wilder is picking Clarke over Sharp for some matches....then there’s the clue.

Or do you think Wilder wants to deliberately lose s few matches to make the season more interesting.

Wilder has said several times in the past that he’s loyal with his players but not sentimental.
However Sharp didn’t start or even come on as sub in both Steel City derbies last season.

So I strongly believe he should be given the chance to fulfil his (probably lifetime) ambition to score a goal against the Pigs.
It would be so emotional to witness him score at the Kop end, imagine if we got a penalty?

So I really hope Sharp gets to start this match, he deserves some sentimentality.

Personally think Sharp and McGoldrick are the front runners to play in the derby but CW knows he can’t run those two into the ground, they need some rest or they’ll need to drop their intensity.

It sounds strange, but I worry Billy would try too hard and end up running around like a headless chicken and lose the intelligent side to his game. Having said that, I'd still start him.

I hope not, but Billy has been around a bit too long to fall into that trap.

I’d rather move sentiment to one side and pick the team most able to get a result against them, with or without billy in the starting 11.

You are DEFO falling in to the trap that Sharp does nowt bar score.

Couldn’t be as far off the reality if you tried.

I think he was rested v Stoke with the derby coming up.

Wilder must realise he made a mistake not playing Sharp last season at BL. I think Sharp will be on the bench v Wigan but will start v Forest and Pigs

I don't get this either. Leon has spent the majority of his career, apart from a 4 month purple patch last year, being distinctly underwhelming (and that's putting it politely). Billy on the other hand has spent his career consistently scoring goals. The decision on whether Billy plays or not against the pigs, especially the fucking pigs, is a no-brainer. Its as good as a one goal start as soon as they look at the teamsheet, they'll shit themselves as they'll know whats coming.

It’s only opinions mate.

I just notice that when Sharp and Clarke play in the same team.
Sharp involvement/ touches are probably better but he hardly seems to touch the ball, sometimes it’s as though he’s not on the field (although this is something he seems to have improved this season).
Whereas Clarke seems to be the big focal point and always involved in most things we do.
Also think Sharp is much more consistent where as Clarke is an enigma
with his standards ranging from crap to great even in the same game.

Think we should cut both of them some slack and appreciate the different qualities they bring.
It’s a squad game and at the moment we need all 3 of our main strikers (Clarke, Sharp, McGoldrick) to feel valued and involved.

Watch the Fleck goal vs Bolton earlier this season.

Sharp demonstrates as good a “support” striker role as you are likely to see this season in the Championship in the build up to a perfectly executed, typically Sheff U goal.

He IS a much better footballer than Clarke. No contest.

But I accept Clarke will have a role to play, and offers 1 or 2 useful attributes that Sharp is perhaps not so good at.

There’s often a one off selection for the Derby matches.

This year, I reckon Billy and Leon both up top with McGoldrick just behind could be it.

Tees up nicely for Duffy to come on once more and the away fans to lap it up!

might be Sharp is supersticious and doesnt want to play as its the only double wednesdays had over us in 100 years when he did play
