I'd much rather we spent on anything but players tbh

We saw last time how you can splurge on players and end up with nothing to show for it

Spend on your ground, training facilities and academy and you absolutely do have something to show for it - permanently

Of course we'd need to recruit players to compete but we'd have to be smarter than last time
We had much to show for it. Ramsdale money and existing value in the other three.

We'll have been taken over by the time we get promoted and our new billionaire overlord will be splurging money on anything that can put a kit on,can't wait.

Not to mention an additional year's Prem money and an extra years potential parachute payments if we don't go up this season. Financially speaking the year one signings were a bargain - they helped to bring in a huge amount of revenue. The season two signings included Bogle and Ramsdale who are/were worth a few quid? Mcburnie, Brewster, Lowe, etc also have some value still.

This does raise a point about how would our prefers prefer a club to approach the PL.

The Prince explained that we would pay large sums in the transfer market but he would target the best young players in England, the idea was a young player with huge potential is more likely to accept £20K a week wages.

All transfers are a risk and if our transfers failed then the idea is that Ramsdale, McBurnie, Berge, Brewster would still have value so we could recoup decent money if we failed.

Some might say preparing for failure is being negative but with profit and sustainability rules in the EFL then we have to be practical and realistic to ensure we’re run properly.
Apart from Ramsdale , all our big fee signings have failed to develop or grow in value as originally hoped - the biggest fee Brewster to a laughable extent. Over the 3 years they're either injured or off form for far too much of the time.

IF , we go up , we must get better value for our money , by doing better due diligence on players brought in.
£23m for a kid with dodgy hamstrings who was never ready for PL ?
We can't afford to limit ourselves to the UK - we must cast our net wider and have a more flexible wages policy.
£3m for Anel is the way to go.

I wouldn't pay £3 for anel!

There is next to fuck all value in Mousset , McBurnie , Brewster & Berge , compared to what we paid !
If the latter three help us back to the Premiership then there is real value. In the meantime they are all valuable players.
You cannot realistically compare their value now, when there contracts are shorter and they have been playing for us, to how much we paid originally .Players in the main are not appreciating assets.

Bogle is the only one we could still profit on. If he'd never been injured he'd have been sold for 15m+ and now been excelling in the prem

Yes the others could also help us up. It doesn't mean they were value for money. But it does highlight the efficacy in picking up a few who'll likely stay if you're relegated while you have the opportunity to. That was surely part of the thinking with Robinson and Freeman though and that didn't work, against all expectations..... so it shows you still have to be careful

weve had very poor value for the 70m we spent on berge brewster and mcburnie we have to do a lot better regarding incomings if we do go up and yes mix it up between here and europe where there is definetly more value for money at present imo

If you buy young players with potential the idea is that they stay injury free and develop into better players as they mature , thereby contributing substantially to the team and becoming more valuable assets.
Over the course of 3 years the 4 I've mentioned have been far too often injured or unfit and even when they've played , have not developed beyond where they were when they arrived.
So to me that is 4 fails out of 4 in terms of what would have been hoped when signing them.
It doesn't mean they haven't been of occasional benefit to the team , but for a club which would regard £70m as big money , the return on investment has been poor.
Surely it's not too much to expect that one or two of them might have done a JoC (before bad luck crocked him) or an Ndiaye or even a Ramsdale.
All I am saying is that we need to be better at recruitment if we are fortunate enough to return to the PL.
Especially as there will likely be a huge turnover in the summer , promoted or not.

I agree completely. The problem we had was that young players are not quite ready to immediately perform in the Premiership. We should have invested in the first summer and not the second.
If we go up this year we will have the same problem, but if we can bring in the young quality we will be ready to go again in 2024/5.

IF. Not WHEN.

We have the toughest final third of the season of any of the current top 6

I'd say Boro's is at least as tough as ours, if not tougher, but I agree we shouldn't be remotely complacent. Thankfully, the management and players won't be.

It will be getting

Messi
Bellingham
Haaland
Rashford
Silva
Maguire
Walker
Rice
Van dijk
Alba
ALISON

All to gel in a 4-3-3 formation.

Please no, there loads of time to feck this up.

Looking at the Premier League transfer gossip we'll need to up our game purely on signings when you see some of the potential incomings this month never mind the fees!!!

Biggest hurdle in the prem when we return?

Where to park my flying car

and will my jet pack fit under my seat.

The biggest hurdle in the Prem will be the same as the biggest hurdle in the Champ, namely the wall on the muddy grass between the Decathlon car park and the entrance to the underpass. Have to go towards the top end of it these days, so I can hold on to the end of the wooden fence to get me over. Fuckin' old age......

IF we get promoted, this side would get fuckin slaughtered every match, even worse than our 2nd Prem season.
