Biggest Comebacks?

Although Swindon's technically true, in the context of the tie, we didn't get a draw so I don't think it should count.

To try to move things in a more downbeat direction, how many times have we thrown away a three goal lead? I can think of the Brighton match where we came back to win, and also didn't we throw a 3-0 lead away against possibly Ipswich in 2003 before getting a winner for 4-3.

The most famous occasion I can recall is the 3-3 draw with Reading at the Lane on 11/10/86. 3-0 up on the hour. By 65 mins it was 3-3 with their equalising goal being an OG from Jeff Eckhardt.

Other than that, I can't think of any other occasions when we have been 3-0 up and not won. Silent Blade ?

It would have been the FA Cup match against Ipswich in 2003 if it wasnt for Peschisolido's last minute winner!

Bristol City had a good squad in them days and I think they got promotion the following season (they beat us in the semi final of the FA youth.cup).we looked beaten at 0-3 down but salvaged a draw (catalyst)

They got promotion in 1976, we went in opposite direction. They did have a good run in the 1970/71 League Cup before losing to Spurs in the two legged semi

Brighton at home in 1989 we were losing 3-0 and went on to win 5-4 with a last minute John Francis winner.

Soon as I saw this thread I was going to talk about this game but you beat me to it.

It was and still is one of the greatest games I've been to. Incredible atmosphere I'll never forget.

3-0 up, 4-3 down and won 5-4 with a late goal.

I'm surprised this match isn't mentioned more often. For me it's up there in the all time great unforgettable Blade moments which for me personally is up there in the top 5.

Along with Liverpool in the league cup when we beat the European champions 1-0, Leicester away to clinch promotion, Villa away when we won our first Premier League match that inspired an incredible relegation defying fight back and THAT match against Forest at the Lane.

Nearly forgot when we were beating the pigs 3-0 at half time the other year, the ground a true cauldron.

Honourable mention to the Charlton match in the cup, choking up at full time with that atmosphere.

That for me is what makes it memorable, not the quality of football but the electric atmosphere only a few produce in special moments.

With 23 mins left! Tudor equaliser in last min, Woody jumps for joy

Was it 75c that day?

Not the biggest comeback but it's going to take something special to beat the Forest play-off semi. 2-0 down and feeling sick, Kabba's flick and volley, and a Wednesday legend's last contribution to football was an own goal in front of our kop.

At 3 - 0 down I thought Stuart Hall had got a better chance of a comeback than us.

I don't think Hodgy played many first team games following that match.
Yes, that is right. He dropped a simple catch for the first goal (scored by John Galley) and let in a soft shot by Gerry Gow for the third one. He was ok for the remaining matches that month and in the next month but from November onwards he was making too many mistakes before being dropped from the team in January

I think we were 3-0 down when we came back to beat WBA 4-3 in 1966.

One of my first away games without your Dad Peter, 3 down after about 15 minutes i think, came back to 3-3, we invaded the pitch at the end.
Was it before that match when an older Blade offered you to sup his beer outside a pub and you pretended to like the taste?

What was the cup game at Notts County about 8 ish years ago. We were losing that game and came back to win. That was a good atmosphere.....help me out please Silent....

Not the same game that I had in mind then- there was one where the Green'Un reported we had lost but we scored 3 goals in the last 10 minutes after they had gone to press
3-2 win v Newcastle in Nov 1965? 2-0 down at half time. Woody pen, Jones and Tony Wagstaff (I think I remember seeing Jones and Wagstaffe's names in the late scorers column in the front page of the Green Un when I was looking at the archives at the Central Library)

We beat County 4-3 in the FA Cup with a Vas Borbokis free kick special. I can't remember how much we were losing by.

I remember a fantastic game at Tranmere in the 90s. We were losing 2-0 at Tranmere and went on to win 3-2. Tre Dallas scored with a long range spectacular.

When Bert played for Ecclesfield Town Junior School away at Burncross we were 2-0 down at half time but playing down the slope in the second half we scored 7 without reply.

What date was that Silent?

That was a cracker of a game that.
Francis scored from a diving header, I think. Could be wrong - it was more than 25 years ago!

Some kind soul has put it on you toob. Picture quality not great but brings back memries.

In fact appears to have been put on by a Brighton fan! If you look closely can see Paul Wood playing for Brighton.

That Francis header was even better than how I remembered it!
