Not going to go and watch United any more because we're not Real Madrid, or because we're a bit shit, or even very shit?

Fine. Fuck off and do some gardening on a Saturday, or go shopping, or be like those pig fans you see in the supermarket proudly wearing their pig shirts, showing how they are the massive, even though they are too massive to actually go to Hillsborough when Wednesday are at home.

I don't watch Sheffield United because of McCabe, or Wilson, or any of the current team. They weren't there when I first went, and they'll all be long gone when I'm still supporting my team. If you don't want to go then that's fine.

Just do us a favour and fuck off quietly. Cheers. We've heard all your reasons why you're not going any more, we don't need to hear them for the hundredth time.

And if and when we do get some success then we'll still be there when you come slinking back for the good times, few though they might be. Or perhaps you might care to go and watch a team that wins more matches than us. That's fine.

Just go quietly please. The door is that way.

This post is also Officially F**king Ace.

Oooooo another I'm a bigger blade thread which also gets in a mention of shopping and the pigs :rolleyes::rolleyes:

How predictable when things are not going so well.

I never mentioned being a bigger Blade, but if anyone doesn't want to go then that's fine. As long as they don't tell us the same old shit every five fucking minutes. We are aware that all isn't rosy. It's not been all rosy for around a hundred years. They don't have to tell us the sky is falling in at every opportunity - once is fine. Any more is just pissing into the wind.

Perhaps though another way to look at it is that people care ! Because they care that's why they get frustrated when things don't go to plan, when we lose, thats why they come onto forums such as this to vent their feelings!
One is not a better blade because they blindly follow the team through thick and thin always thinking 'it will get better' or 'something will turn up'
It could be argued that the better blade is one who wants to see the side compete in a good level of football not wanting to accept mediocrity!
However, what is clear, whether you fall into one camp or the other -We all care because we're Blades
I consider myself fortunate to have had some good times, semi finals, promotions, play off semi finals - some fans don't ever get that thrill - but with the good times part of being a Blade is that you have to have some bad times - and when we are experiencing such times some people get a wee bit frustrated!

Best thread for a good while.

The condition/disease of Sheffield United FC for a lot of people is terminal.
I was infected with the above in 1966 and it will remain with me until death.
I have lived through the ups and downs of this club since.
I'm not going to ramble on but the good times will return.
This season has been a bit mixed but a good performance at Bury could turn things around some.

There's only so many times you can listen to some individual fans bellowing at players that they're "stupid cXXts" every 30 seconds, faces contorted in rage before you have to question why on earth they even bother.

There are only so many times you can watch someone clap like a seal with a stupid smile on their faces when a pass sails into row Z before you wonder if they have a brain.

If only we could all sit back in life & be happy with how everything is... If we weren't designed to vent frustration & opinions.

We're all different with different opinions, that's what makes the world interesting! (There certainly would be no point in Internet forums if we agreed with each other would there?!)

Just a pity that some people have to attempt to use their fists to show that they disagree....

Which would be a good point, if that person existed.

I suppose what I'm saying really is it gets a bit boring as soon as we get a few bad results that one set of fans should start having digs at those who are lets say a little bit more active in their criticism. At least those with a "negative " view point direct their ire at the people who can change things not fellow fans.

That's a fair point (I'm making a habit of this) :)

Like this? Active criticism like this?

What gets me is when people assume that because you're not rubbing your hands with glee at the "poisonous atmosphere" then you're completely happy with what's going on. When you offer to give a free t-shirt to people who don't want to go to Bramall Lane anymore, and blame those who choose to still go for all the club's malaises.

When they make up stereotypes, like people applauding badly placed passes or shots. When they won't accept that a different viewpoint to their's can be equally valid.

Active criticism? Calling someone a "clapper" or a "seal" is acceptable then, is it? But it's not only "when we get a few bad results", it's all the time. If you don't state that you hate Kevin McCabe then you must be an idiot, and it's all your fault.

Well, excuse those of us who are a little active in our criticism of those who prefer to be patronising, pigeonholing or stereotyping. We might even give them "funny" names too.

By all means criticise, but don't blame fellow Blades who have a different viewpoint to yours for the club's current state.

If fans didn't get pissed off when times are bad, then the good times wouldn't be as sweet, and football just wouldn't be the same.

I'm pissed off, and I'll criticise the ref, the manager, the useless players, the ball boys and motorways for now. When we win, I'll be singing their praises. It's football, it's tribal, it's not the UN.

So the people who don't post what a twat McCabe is are clappers, and the people who don't agree with decisions the Club makes are lumped in with Mic's WUM efforts.

And so the depressingly long cycle continues....

Excellent post Shoreham. Well put.

Clappers and knockers, been going on since the internet was invented and probably before. But now Snoreham has managed to put a handy guide together that advises how people should behave if they don't go any longer. Just make sure the last person leaving the lane switches the light out so the biggest blades can rattle around in the Neil Warnock memorial stand in a couple of years time when we are playing York City and Mansfield.

Isn't that what you were doing when you started this thread ??? Looks to me like your sole intention was to stir up the clapper v slasher debate, why is that ? Is it a means to deflect attention from a under performing team and manager, no one likes the position the club are in but hey some of you need to man up and accept it. It would be much more helpful to point out why the owner, management and team are under performing than start silly threads to stir up fans who don't share your view point.

Fact is, if these debates didn't exist neither would this forum. Some people should be careful what they wish for.

People don't object to debate. They object to the childish puerile name calling and abuse.

And you are old enough surely to know that no matter how many times the call goes out to stop calling names it will always go back to the way it was. BU, Viewpoints, Unitedite etc etc. Has it ever been any different. I would say Shorehams post contains enough expletives to make it objectionable to those he is calling. I don't care personally but itsn't it the case of people in glass houses chucking rocks?

I'm sure most of us wish it were all very different but experiences teaches us it will never change.

The cry of conservatices throughout the ages and I am sure the exact same thing was said about slavery, racism, persecution of homosexuals, cruelty to animals, a man's right to rape his wife etc etc (all of which are obviously on the same level of importance as abuse on football messageboards :-)).

Things do change - my classic football related exactly is how explict racism at games changed from being acceptable to completely unacceptable within the space of my lifetime - but it takes people standing up and saying certain behaviour is unacceptable in order to effect change.

Some of them are objecting to debate. Posts wishing people who are critical of the club would shut up are two a penny on this forum, and many such posts do not confine themselves to wishing abusive posters would can it.

All of the above are in line with changes in society and as you say they are somewhat bigger than calling someone a knobhead (or nobhead) on a messageboard. You also have to take into account what some class as banter is a personal insult to others.

I think the OP is out of order because in effect it tells people who love and support the club (allbeit in their own way) to do one in no uncertain terms. It uses language that is insulting and the tone is unacceptable. But most view it as the way he does things so thats ok. He is one of the gang so people shrug and many actually like what he posts. How do you change that? Someone like Micalijo could post a similar thing and he would get a metaphorical stoning. Yet his is probably less offensive in his post than others.

I've been online in excess of 15 or so years now as have many on here, and I don't see it changing any time soon. Unless you start banning people every time they call someone a name. Can't see that happening can you?

Surely people can be mature enough that if they read something they don't agree with they can interact without resorting to stupid name calling? My Grandad used to say something along the lines of "if you've got nowt nice to say, say nowt" - he didn't mean blindly agreeing with what other people say but if all you can put is something abusive, why not just ignore it and move on to something else?

Fair points, but I don't think its unreasonable to expect that in a message board devoted to supporting a particular team, those who say that one should support the team will be more accepted than those who seem to devote their time on here to constant unconstructive negativity about the team.

As is said ad nauseum, no-one disputes that United are shit at the moment and there is no-one who does not wish things were better. The difference is how people deal with that.
