We were 2nd actually in Sept 39 with 2 wins and a draw. Blackpool were top I believe.

Edit: whoops! Must read the entire thread! Am I right that those 3 seasons I mentioned are the only time we have been top of the first tier since 1904?

There's some prime bollocks talked on here:
Mainly by one with "boxitis" who has to categorise everything and can't (for the life of him) see things for how they actually are. And the Cnut had the cheek to say I was talking bollocks.... FFS.

"Pass and Move". Another meaningless phrase. It's actually not possible to pass (or even hoof) without moving before, during or after the pass (or hoof). And similarly, it's not possible to receive the pass (or hoof) without moving.

Indeed.

If nobody played "pass and move" then after the first kick-off there'd be fuck all happening for 45 minutes. Last time I looked that had never happened, but we shouldn't let facts get in the way of a good pigeonholing.
 
We was also the first team to go to top of the premiership albiet for 10 minutes and also top for 25 minutes on the opening day of 06/07

There's something to be said for out and out bullying of the opposition in this league through strength, size and athleticism.

The Wednesday team that Dave Jones took over were masters of it and went on an incredible run.

Appropriate to your level, Yes. Plenty of footballing teams prosper in all leagues. Ultimately, history has shown us how to play winning football - Pass and Move. What I find absolutely incredible, and unique to S2, is how many of us glory in futile and grotesque 'non-football'

Why? It's horrible and it doesn't work!
 
It's horrible but it does work. It worked for Wednesday, it worked for West Ham and it worked for Stoke. Done properly, it can be very effective, even now.

Swansea and others have proven that it's also possible to overachieve playing a possession based game. There's no right or wrong way.
 
Pinchy I couldn't care less how we play as long as we get where we want, granted we are ugly and useless at the time but if we win ugly who cares. I appreciate you want to see pass an move as would many of us but it ain't gonna happen mate.
