Big boys still trying to get five subs reintroduced and we know why don’t we

United stand against the same old big boy brigade

Well done Bettis!

Premier League clubs have squads of what, 25? European competitions also have squad sizes? Can’t they consider splitting squads by competition and buying squads to suit competitions

Perhaps instead of paying 50 or 100 million one player they should strengthen their squad

Load of bollox about player welfare

Reports in today’s paper state that Pep & Klopp were discussing the need for 5 subs straight after the game
A game in which Liverpool use 2 and Man C only 1 of the 3 subs they already have

If they were constantly using all 3 and then getting injury’s, ending with 10 men then fine, but this is about been able to replace half your outfield team, if you can bring on (from this weekends bench) Foden, Ake, Milner & Keita then of course you want to make 5 subs

He's totally correct. I have no issue with having a bigger number of players to pick from on the bench like in "restart" era but subs should stay at 3.

Don't forget, that squad of 25 doesn't include the vast possibilities they have within their youth network.

This bollox about player welfare, Solskaer moaning that Manure didn`t get back from Turkey til 4am thursday and then had midday k.o. on saturday. Why didn`t they fly back thursday mid morning after having a nights kip in a hotel, back in Manc thurs teatime, kip thurs night and light training friday match saturday, how much fucking rest do they need to work 90+ mins FFS

These clubs so desperately want European football, they should suck up the calendar without a single moan really.

Can't deny that playing in Turkey on Wednesday night and then the lunchtime kick off on Saturday is madness, Yet it's bad enough the league fixtures being moved to accommodate the telly, let alone someone else's competition.

The likes of Liverpool and Man City don't even know where the Championship is.

Since football returned with project restart the ‘big clubs’ have accelerated their desire to gain as much advantage as they possibly can so that they can preserve their ‘big club’ status.

One can only feel this is as a result of Covid and clubs fears of potential revenue loss.

And he played man utd 'lite' out in Turkey. Not like he used the same team on Saturday anyway.

This is yet another string to the top clubs bow to have further excuse to break away into their cash weathly European super league. As said many times before, the sooner the better for me.
The english football pyramid is the best in the world it will soon recover from losing the so called elite clubs.
They will be back when the European league runs out of steam and cameras will turn away.
Football is about competition not ring fenced leagues made up of invited not promoted clubs.

Liverpool and Man City played each other on Sunday and only made 3 subs between them. Take it neither wanted to lose so tried to not make too many changes.

They don't want it for the big games, they want it to be able to rest players when they're cruising 3-0.

I was initially against. But am I the only one that thinks that it might benefit us also?

  • we have a squad where injuries are fast catching up with them
  • we ran out of gas last season and that has continued
  • we might be able to get a multi million pound signing on the bench and see if he might be able to provide an attacking threat - in bogle?
Our results would be no worse so far would they?

We might benefit a small amount, but those with deeper squads (which is basically most other teams) benefit a big amount. We would despite the small benefits be worse off overall. We saw this in the initial restart. We would not be continuing to strongly oppose this if we hadn’t thoroughly weighed up the pros and cons and determined this would be a serious problem for us.

I can definitely see the pros for us too. Also, when you're playing against a team who has 70% possession, there is some logic in saying two extra subs would benefit the team out of possession more.

All in all, I don't think it would really make difference so I'd say stick with 3. Finishing the game with 10 players on the pitch who didn't start it just feels a bit odd.

we have the lowest possession in the league so it couldn’t hurt us to be honest.

that said I agree 5 seems too much. Not sure why they wouldn’t go for 6 subs on the bench and max 4 changes as a compromise between the 2.
