Best opening day performance since...

For me, that was the best opening day performance since Spackman's Blades, with Vas Borbokis, beat Sunderland 2-0 in, er, whenever that was.

2-1 v ManU on the first day of the Premier League was pretty good too (though I remember the result more than the performance).

I think the odds on us getting promoted must have tumbled after tonight.

Agana (2) and Deane were the scorers in the 3-0 win at WBA in August 1989. Roberts did play in that match but it wasnt long before he went to Lincoln

What was good about this is that we played well, it shows what we can do and it is a lot better than last year. Whether we can do as well as last year or better, is all about consistency and for that we will have to wait at least another 10 games. Then we may have some idea whether we are going to compete or just hang about.

A Gray pen put us 1-0 late in the 1st half, but in the second half it was all Leicester and they eventually equalised and looked good for another one. However, we got a fortitous pen with about 10 mins left which Kabba scored (Gray had been subbed and was sold to Sunderland a couple of days later). Leicester then gave up and a couple of late goals from Ifill and Bromby gave us a very flattering 4-1 win.

4-1, in a higher division and against eleven men.
Neither do I believe that teams just "give up" when only 2-1 down in the opening game live on telly. We earned a good win.
