I'd be a Barnsley fan if the blades didn't exist.
19/3/1996
I put that experience alongside classic turnrounds, like the wonderful celebrations after Pesky's goal against Forest, and Duffy's bounce-killer moment after the despair of the Wendy equaliser and us thinking we were gonna lose after being 2 up. Being 2-0 down at home to Newcastle and turning it round to 3-2 after most of our fans had trudged off home was another amazing feeling I remember as a young 'un. To really feel the buzz of the highs, you need the lows; you need to be able to roll with both.
It also helps during moments of despair, like the Wigan fans celebrations at the end of our Premier league venture, to think then (as I remember doing) that sometime in the future we'll be looking down on you lot. My favourite memories include us singing "Always look on the bright side of life" to our illustrious neighbours, and it's a song we should reflect on now.
I went to watch Hallam FC play at the oldest football ground in the world. That was awesome, and it was cheaper than any SUFC game. Except the pitch is a bit sloping. And it wo freezin.Middlesbrough 4-2 Steaua Bucharest, (agg 4-3), UEFA Cup Semi Final, 2006.
I was a student in Teesside at the time and because it was a Boro home game tickets were very much available. Even for the biggest game in their history I could walk up to the ground 3 days before and have a selection of pairs of seats to choose for me and my dad. Having decided against going to the QF against Basel (best game I had the chance to go to but didn't) and thinking I would never see a European semi final involving United I made sure I went to this one. (I'm much less sure on that last point now than I was in 2006.)
2 down on the night (almost entirely because Brad Jones was in goal rather than Mark Schwarzer) Boro began the fightback with Maccarone later in the first half. Viduka looped a header in, Riggott bundled one in from close range and in the 89th minute Maccarone again with a diving header. Same player, same minute, same result as the round before. Unbelievable. It's right up there with the Forest playoff semi as the best game I've ever seen.
So, what's the best non-SUFC game you've been to?
Affinity with them from when I was younger, I live in Dearne valley.
Always like to see them do well unless it has a direct impact on us
Barcelona 3 - Valencia 0 Camp Nou,
Suarez, Messi Neymar up front, football from a different planet, bear in mind we were league one
