We have a small number of contenders here and, perhaps, an obvious winner.

The nominated joke candidate here is Gysbrechts. Vote for him and your vote won't be counted unless you justify it in the thread.

Players had other numbers as follows:

Tonge: no. 32 2001, no. 26 2001-02
Harriott: no. 36 2011

Can't see this one being close at all...

Tonge for me... and probably everyone else...

Has to be Tonge, even though he wasn't at his best during his latter years with us. He'd probably get it just for those two goals against Liverpool in the League Cup Semi Final. Jamie Ward had a good first season, but doesn't come close to Tongey.

Michael Brown is the only player so far to get 100% of the votes. Can Tonge match that (probably not now that I have mentioned it)?

That would be the only reason. Not even the bloke who sat behind me, and slagged him every week for the last 4 years of his stay, would vote for any of the others.
Even Wardy scoring against the pigs is eclipsed by the best Blades goal at Sty that I've witnessed.

Thing that's a tad harsh on Tonge. He did so much more for us than score against Liverpool. When he first broke through he was such an exciting player, possibly the most influential player our academy has ever produced.

I think it was the right time for him to move on when he did but as the saying goes "you don't know what you've got till it's gone"

I remember the 02/03 triple assault season when he tore every full back a new one.

Sorry Dyer for me. Tonge became very, very predictable later on.

So Dyer's 3 months on loan and 1 goal outweigh Tonge's 6 years and numerous very good performances?

Blimey.

What I meant was that even if he'd never done anything else other than score the goals against Liverpool he'd probably still win this. But obviously he did produce more than that so is a worthy winner. Still stand by the opinion that his latter years with us alone wouldn't get him into the dream squad though.

Maybe I just remember him better (blame the passing years) and percentage-wise I think I saw more game-changing play and disruption of the opposition's defence from Dyer. His main problem was keeping it up for longer than 60 mins. And Blackwell.

I know how he feels ;)

I've gone for Jamie Ward. Not only for his goal against the Pigs but whenever he was on the ball he was always exciting to watch.

Michael Tonge for me peaked after the famous Liverpool/Worthington Cup game. The decline began then and it was excellent business to recoup £2.5million when his stock had significantly dropped. He had one season where he was excellent, but he had a lot of good players surrounded by him to help him out. Jamie Ward had Darius Henderson and Craig Beattie.

Furlong being in the potential nightmare run off is highly unfair after his debut brace. That said, I couldn't not vote for Tonge.

Had to vote for Marlon as I really couldnt stand Michael Tonge.

Tonge scored against the Pigs too you know!

I know I am being quite harsh on Tongey, but I expected so much more of him whereas Jamie Ward came with little expectation, low transfer fee and showed a lot of ability.

and Tongey came with what fee and expectation?

He came for nowt, he replaced Bobby "first name on the team sheet" Ford and made sure he couldn't get back in. For that I am eternally grateful.
At least there are a couple of names less for Davy to fight against for his inevitable crowning as a shitester.
