This is a difficult one as there is no stand out candidate - they are all fairly crap.

Players wore other numbers as follows:

Montgomery: no. 36 2000-01, n0. 12 2002-03, no. 4 2003-05 and 2009-12, n0. 17 2005-09
Smith: no. 28 2001-02
Ten Heuvel: no. 11 2002-03
Wright: no. 3 2004-05, no. 25 2005-07
Ross: no. 28 03-04, n0. 36 07-08
Lucketti: no. 44 2006
Kozluk: no. 5 1999-2000, no. 2 2000-05, no. 15 2005-07
Philliskirk: no.27 2011

Note that Cullen, Ten Heuvel and Haber never actually played a game in the 22 shirt. Those three, along with Philliskirk are designated joke candidates. Vote for them and your votes won't be counted unless you justify it in the thread.

Jon Cullen was possibly the worst player I've ever seen in my life. Is he the one that even the club didn't know what his position was supposed to be? I recall him saying in an interview that despite him being a right back the club thought he was a striker.

A thin field. I went for Wright based on one game where he played at centre half and I expected him to be crap but he played pretty well.

I don't think, he was wearing 22 then. He only wore than in his first season when, I think, he always played left back.

Yes, with these guys I find you have to Wiki them to remind yourself who played in which shirt when. Wright is more like a 25 shirt player really. Kelly only did the one season with us coming back later as backroom staff.

Voted for Lucketti, just on the memory of him having a decent game or 2 filling in for injuries and the like.

I never say Lucketti play, so for that I voted for 'Ned'. Fondest memory being when he scored against Blackburn on a Friday night match thanks to a calamity from then Blackburn keeper Alan Kelly.

Doesn't David Kelly have the distinction of being our lowest ever top scorer over a season?

He does. He got 6 league goals in 2000-01. Joint top scorers in all competitions that season were him, Bent and Devlin with 8.

My mate insists that United paid Cullen an astonishing salary for someone bought from the bottom tier. That's why he stayed for so long without really playing. He was also said to be one of those whom the manager never wanted, and McDonald's men brought in.

All rumour, but having seen him play, I can confirm his existence as an SUFC footballer was utterly mystifying.

I wasn't going to vote due to the piss poor quality of what is on offer but I went for David Kelly. I seem to remember him finishing as our top scorer one season with single figures.

I think he was in the fourth tier team of the year the season before we signed him. According to Wikipedia he scored 12 goals from 34 games for his former club Hartlepool, decent for a midfielder.
