Things are going a bit quiet, so have a little think about all the home games this season and decide on the 4 options below. Not limited to who's actually been in the ground, which opens the post up to everyone.

1) The best home game of the season.

2) The most important home game of the season.

3) The best home goal that was scored.

4) The most important goal that was scored.

The best is probably what you enjoyed the most - could be any reason.

The most important may be what changed the season, or when you finally realised this was the 6th and last season in L1. The choice is down to what ever you think is relevant.

The best goal - needs no explanation.

Most important goal - example: he didn't play much but was it Wilson's v Oxford that got us moving?

Take your time, no hurry as we have 3 months to wait :( - enjoy the reminisce :)

Best game: Scunny at home for the best 45 minutes of football I've seen from a United side. Or the Port Vale one that finished 4-0 and could have been eight. Ridiculous

Most important: Scunny. To go behind after dominating so heavily was a blow, but a key point. Lose against (then) an auto promotion rival and it could have had a knock-on effect, with Bolton visiting the week after.

Best goal: Fleck against Coventry was just pure class.

Most important: Wilson v Oxford obviously up there. But I remember Freeman's against Northampton late on, to go top on NYE. They never faltered from there

1) The best home game of the season.

Bradford. We were unstoppable by this point.

2) The most important home game of the season.

Oxford. First time we'd fought back (or fought anything) for bloody ages.

3) The best home goal that was scored.

EEL's last minuter against Bury. That's what promotion teams do.

4) The most important goal that was scored.

Wilson vs Oxford,

Best -
Bolton - The complete performance inc result thought that was our best league performance in 5 years , should have been same against those lucky tw*ts Scunny.
Important - Toss up between Scunny & Oxford ,the latter we needed that to get season up & running , showed a lot of character after previous results . Also the equaliser against Scunny we would have lost that game over previous seasons , again played them off the park pity Billy's flick and O'Shea off inside of post hadn't given us our just desserts. And also agree with yours FB I know a few over in Bolton and they said the number of times they said they were looking at results & league table at 4:40 and seeing them above us only to find by 4:50 we'd dug a result and soured their pint gave me some ammunition to wind em up a little lol , all those late goals were important .
Best Goal -
I'd go with Danny on the fleck goal , composure and class finish was sat next to Cov fans in BL upper very sweet after pelted they'd given Leon & Flecky

,

Many contenders for each category but I have opted for the following.

Best home game - Port Vale. 4 goals scored with 4 disallowed, an absolute demolition job.

Most important home game - Bolton, we made them look like amateurs and although I had strongly believed we were going up for months, this was the game and performance where I became convinced. A slip up against them would have resulted in doubts creeping in, especially as we had dropped points against Scunny the previous week. It was time to finally show the league who the champions were and we did it emphatically. It was of course especially sweet after Piggy Madine's antics and to see classless Parky spit his dummy out afterwards. We effectively smashed any aspirations they had of catching us at that point, regardless of what may have happened in subsequent weeks.

Best home goal - Bradford - Clarke's first was a thing of beauty. JOC's driving run, Duffy's majestic little back heel and a sublime finish without even controlling it first. 3 fantastic footballers linking up to create something quite special.

Most important goal - Wilson vs Oxford. The sense of relief from the crowd was almost overwhelming. Will be slightly sad to see him go (should another club buy him) and feel quite sorry that he never got more chances. But he/we will always have the memory of that season changing moment.

best - port vale had the ball in the net 8 times and in all honesty if it had ended 8-0 they couldn't really complain

Important result - Oxford, we really needed the points but there were a number of results at home early season before we really got going that were crucial such as Bristol Rovers, MK Dons and Peterborough

best home goal - 4th versus Wimbledon was fantastic but Bill's versus MK dons was great as it was built on 4 or 5 minutes of intensity that eventually MK couldn't handle

Most important home goal - loads to choose from as they scored at key moments through the season. Freeman against Northampton was great though, late, against a good side who were playing for the draw by that point

Virtually identical to mine.

Best game: Port Vale at home is the best I've seen us play for many years, it fact probably one of the most dominant displays I've ever seen in 40 years. The 4-0 scoreline was a total joke, we could have had 10.
That was the game where I left the ground KNOWING if we repeat performances close to that we would easily win the league. Felt a bit emotional after the game because I knew we had a fantastic chance of auto promotion. Remember Done pressing and chasing down their defender in the 89th minute. Port Vale rarely got in our half and I felt a bit sorry for them.

Also agree about Scunnie. Big match that histocally we tend to bottle but we were fired up from the 1st whistle. We played a promotion rival and totally took them to the cleaners first half.

Most important:
Still remember pummelling 9 man Bury who defended for their lives. We had chance after chance but as the end was nearing we still played a patient passing game. I've seen these types of games so often where we deserved to win but just can't score. Then up pops EEL to hit a last minute winner. It made me think maybe Wilder has managed to get rid of the bad luck curse.

1) The best home game of the season.

Bolton. To see us put the second placed team in the league to the sword so easily was a joy to watch.

2) The most important home game of the season.

I'm going to buck the trend here and pick a defeat, Southend. In my opinion it showed Wilder we were still short in key areas, and sent him back into the transfer market to get Moore, EEL and Lafferty. If we'd scraped a win against them and not got rolled over with the horror show we did, he may have persevered with the likes of Hussey and Long until after the window was closed.

3) The best home goal that was scored.

Fleck's against Coventry. Thinking back it appears most of the best goals were scored away.

4) The most important goal that was scored.

Wilson's against Oxford.

Best game . Port Vale . 4-0 . It could/should have been 8-0 and no one could have claimed it wasn't fully deserved . Men against boys .

Most Important game . Bolton . Any lingering hopes from the chasing pack that we could be caught vanished that day . Out played , out fought and out thought the closest team to us in every way .

The best home goal . Billy Sharps first against Oldham . A prolific goal scorer at his very best . Half volley from a tight angle lashed into the top corner .

Most important . Lafferty against Chesterfield . 100 points . Say no more .

1. Bolton - after battering Scunny the week before but somehow failing to get three points, it would have been typical of United to blow it against the Trotters but the performance that day, though not as good as Scunny, convinced me and many others that this was the year.

2. Oxford - had to win, did win. From that point, they never looked back.

3. Fleck vs. Coventry - sublime, absolutely sublime. It might have been the weekend after where it was confirmed but that goal was the moment it was all over for me.

4. Wilson vs. Oxford. See #2. Though I'll give a shout out to Clarke vs. Coventry and O'Connell vs. Millwall as big goals to get the ball rolling and settle nerves in those two big home games.

This, but swap the most important with the Oxford game.
