I'm sure we had a thread long these lines back when it was all fields around here but I can't find it now.
Who would you say the best manager of your time was (is?) and why?
Steve Thompson did wonders with what he was left with. Bassett did well with limited funds in his successive promotions in what was a turbulent time for United and no doubt cemented our place as a second tier club.
However, the best of United I've seen is what Neil Warnock provided. Languishing at the bottom of the first division when he took over to near Premiership survival as he left... with FA and League Cup Semi-Finals and a trip to Cardiff along the way. He wheeled and dealed to create a team who wanted to play for him, and surely that is the measure of a good manager?
I'm sure some of you older 'uns will educate us further
