Interesting reading. In many areas of modern life, promotion to the 'next rung up' is very much seen as a thing to aspire to. I once knew a copper who didn't want the hassle of 'rank' and was happy just being a constable. To be honest, even if your club is doing OK, the Prem doesn't seem to be much 'fun'. Maybe it's me that's got it wrong?

The fun part is the novelty - visiting new grounds or grounds you’ve not visited for years and hoping for a big result or two. But even when you’re doing well, that wears off quickly when the games get moved around to Sunday or Monday… there will be a few clubs fans enjoying their time this season, Newcastle, Villa, Forest. But beyond that perhaps Liverpool fans, Arsenal for the Champs League.
