Best Coaches/Travel for away matches

Not going tomorrow as I couldn't face driving all the way down there and back as Im a lazy twat. Whats peoples thoughts on their experiences of coaches or shared travel. I live in killamarsh and been on the coach from Birley shops once (but then had to walk home at 11 at night from there as I had no battery or money left). Got a 13 year old son so can't be doing that very often but I do like a bit of a drink within reason so don't want to be driving to every away game either so would like to find an in-between as Id like to go to more away games. Any recommendations or is it just drive and stay sober which is what Ive done on the majority of away games Ive been to.
 



Go on the official blades travel coaches, can't beat them.

Edit: Sorry didn't see the Killamarsh bit, not sure then mate.
 
Yeah , would be a pain getting back from the lane at that time of night.
 
In 1998 I took a National Express to Amsterdam and back for the Champs League final. 24 hours sat on the bastard thing.

Never stepped on a coach since. :)
 
Tram runs to Halfway, not sure when the last one is - but if it's late enough that would make the train an option
 
Try Harthill Blades. They normally use Coopers buses, so if your lucky you could even get a lift home.

Started using the official coaches last season with sometimes with WHF Jr Sr (age 16¼), my experience so far is they are good quality, comfortable and reasonably priced. You often have to book a week or so in advance as there are only ever two coaches - er, apart from tomorrow when there are three.

Speaking of tomorrow: Set off 7am on time. Cost £32.

Longer journeys they stop off on the way - drivers' regulations.

Usually arrive an hour and a half or more before the match, near or far, but leave pretty much straight away.

There was an awful lot of messing about for the Swindon play-off game: we stopped near Swindon but not in Swindon, and then I think had to double back on ourselves - but that was unusual.

Others who've been travelling this way longer may have more to add, but that's been my experience so far.

And there's no alcohol allowed on the coaches.

Never fancied official as its such a long way to get back from and theres no beer allowed on there.

Family and friends railcard to use for two of you will save you money on rail. Best way to go. Driving myself tomorrow and not looking forward to it but supporters coaches like a library. Vote to in past for Handsworth coaches.
If you can get to Worksop/Retford fast East line rail if games along that line.
 
I wouldn't go near a coach to travel to a game let alone one of the official "chicken soup" coaches. I'd prefer to drive for 3 hours and limit myself to a pint or maybe two before the game, the train is the only way to travel if possible. The last two trips to Wembley I went on the special train which by law has to be alcohol free but it is still better if you are going a fair distance you can at least have a walk about and stretch your legs two and a half hours later we were getting pissed on Baker St, but yeah get a railcard it can save you a fortune.

I'm at Killamarsh and if I go on the bus it's with the Handsworth Blades. Park up near Cross Keys, have four pints at dinner time, last 'un about 2pm. factor in snap, 2 hours in ground, at least 2 hours back and under limit once back at Handsworth. The one down side is night games down south, when it's 1am and the bus comes off at j31, 5 minutes from home and it ends up taking another 30 mins once you've got back to Handsworth then drove home to Killamarsh. Suppose I should get myself sorted and get picked up at j30!

For convenience Harthill Blades bus would be more sensible.

Another option is train from Kiveton. Did it last year to Bradford, top day out.
 
Dont go on an official coach too much stopping and pissing about
If it was a coach it used to be Shreds if not train but Gills come in about £80 when I looked
not worth it to go to a shitehole in Kent
 
Living in Kent nowadays my away days often involve overnight stays. Whilst that sounds extravagant it isn't. The places we now go to offer some of the cheapest places to stay as quite frankly they aren't Vegas. As no one wants to spend a Saturday night in some of these places you get some right deals.

I've also used places like Birmingham or Manchester as a staging post to reach places near by. For instance, even if they paid me my hourly rate to stay, I wouldn't spend a night in Oldham, Rochdale or Wigan. The Piccadilly budget Ibis often comes in at 25 quid and whilst you wouldn't bring Miss World back there to throw your wad (or indeed cash) at her, it is a perfect place to collapse after heavy supping in the Northern Quarter or the current ale mecca of Chorlton.

Equally, the Birmingham Travel lodge by the coach station has come in at 20 quid and is close to the real ale classics and Irish boozers and the right side of town for a cab to the Ladypool Road curry houses. Again, places like Walsall and Coventry don't really feature high on the recommendations of Judith Chalmers and that's for good reason.

As anyone who travels by rail will know, you can get some deals if you travel at certain times of the day or if you're going through London by buying separate tickets, One tip is not to buy bang on the three months announcement, wait a while and monitor the prices, usually two weeks after first becoming available they come in about right.

At being over six three and sporting the fuller figure, the thought of being crushed into the confines of a coach, a la your average live European animal export, is not something I'm prepared to do. Add in the no ale rule and a bog that looks like a herd of wildebeeste have stopped by and soon any extra costs to travel by rail or stay overnight are well worth paying.

Not used them for a while, bit they were rarely packed...And it depends how you disguise your drink, make it obvious then no.

They used to go to every away game, and were always coaches. But sometimes there may have been only 20 or so folk of there. Wouldn't be suprised if they've downsizes to minibuses though.
I've not used them for a few years mind.
