Better penalty taker, scored every one he's taken for us....

2 goals in 2 games to start the season to up that price tag.....

But nah..... small thinking prevails and we stick with good old Norwood, who including shootouts has missed about half the pens he's taken for us

And if not Berge it should have been Ndiaye or Brewster
I would have asked Berge to take it. but at 2-0 it would have also been a good chance to get one of your strikers up and running. Though to be fair Brewster also missed his last one.

Yep, exactly. Would've been perfect wouldn't it

Was spitting feathers seeing Norwood pick the ball up

He's become averse to goalscoring so obviously he'll try to miss his pens....

He scored a few goals for Fulham years ago. So what. His pens have never been anything special and his free kicks have been absolutely wank ever since - its embarrassing how few he's scored for us in all he's taken (is it just one?)

It seems all a bit David Beckham against Argentina or Stuart Pearce against Spain. More about the individual trying to redeem his demons rather than actually what was best for the team.

Can't head a ball and is nesh in tackle so can he really do it all 🤔
Put his head in at least twice yesterday to clear the box, while surrounded by oppo players. I was half watching for it, to see if he's improved this area of his game. Early days in the season, but it looks to me like he's more prepared to put him body on the line.

Still see people saying he should play deeper . I just don't understand why these people are seeing. He isn't aggressive enough to do that but he's fantastic when in space and able to carry the ball.

it's exciting to think if McAtees pace compliments Berge s relentless fluid style
how we will take apart teams

Ndayes pace and. Webster fully back in the groove after injury augers eell

If you forget about his fee or his transfer value and just concentrate on his performance he is a match winner with strengths and weaknesses ,his strengths don't make him works class and his weaknesses don't make him shit he is somewhere in between

You don't have to be in one camp or the other
Personally I love watching him play

He shouldn’t play deeper he is way better behind the striker

But but you can only play two of berge/ndiaye/Macatee/Khadra plus about 3/4 strikers

He is Miles better than fleck & Norwood so it wouldn’t be the end of the world go play berge further back as macatee is not here to be on the Bench and neither is Khadra

I want Berge to stay where he is but I also want him moved back into CM....

Our alternatives further forward are still excellent. Our options in CM are not

Best bet for me is to play him RCM in a 2 without expecting him to be the base player, that should be Doyle. Baldock at the side of him might be the best option too, to best cover his forward runs

Berge's position changed a bit with how the play was yesterday. He was advanced when we had the ball and also when we pressed them high up. But when Millwall built longer lasting attacks and we were pushed back, he dropped down to RCM alongside Norwood and Fleck to help them out.

With the likes of Khadra, McAtee and Ndiaye being able to play in attacking midfield, I think Berge will be asked to play deeper again at some point. We'll just have to assess what works best for us.

Go on then name me one ?
Sigh…. If you need me to name footballers who have / had the ability and attitude to get hold of a game when things aren’t going their way for you, then clearly you haven’t been watching the game for very long.
Berge is a very good footballer and will go on to have an excellent career at a level above us.
But what he doesn’t do - and hasn’t done in his time with us - is that.

He also looked a little bit fitter to me - first half he tracked back brilliantly to bail out the defence when Millwall broke. And he’s always the midfielder who leads our own breaks.

There have been games when kevin de bruyne has “gone missing “ such as the champions league final

Is he a bad player and not top class no definitely not

The rumoured 3 PL clubs who have shown an interest in Berge will have had their scouts there today. Expect some increased bids for him

Let’s hope the board decide PL footy for our club takes precedence over swelling the bank balance for this season

£35 mill release clause of fox trott Oscar

I would imagine that more often than not, he doesn’t go missing though.

I hope Berge goes on to command games on a regular basis. Maybe he is starting to do it more of late.

Maybe we will get to see it on a cold January evening again again tough opposition away from home as well as on a warm Saturday at home against average opponents.

I’m a huge Berge fan I just want to see him live up to his ability.

We need to go all out to keep Berge and Ndiaye.
Would happily take no more signings if we kept these 2

Think Ndaiye is safe, not produced over more than 1 season so would only generate a gamble bid which we can afford to turn down £5-10m
Does it this season consistently and £25m+ may create a dilemma if we don’t go up

Berge closet thing to glyn hodges I’ve seen, appears to drift in and out of games but has more natural ability than the rest of the midfield and will be appreciated more when he goes - which hopefully is a few years yet

We all know the score - when he has a good game he's a Rolls Royce, irreplaceable, and we must build a team around him.
When he has a quiet one he's shite, doesn't wanna be here, sell him to the highest bidder!
Just look on the SANDER BERGE ON WAY OUT thread in the Rumour Mill section for confirmation!

We would be selling him to balance the books, not to swell our bank balance.

The suggestion to play Berge in a deeper role is clearly driven by two obvious aspects of our squad.
1. Berge has international and CL experience at CDM.

2. The fans are hoping to see the potential of Khadra, Doyle and McAtee in more attacking roles alongside Ndaye.

I have been a huge Berge fan since he first signed, but I agree with most fans that his performances lack consistency.

With most of his summer signings PH has made life difficult for himself, in fitting the jigsaw together for best effect. Top class full backs are the next problem he will have to deal with, but I think most can be pleased that the 3 centre back positions are now more competitive, especially given our propensity for injuries. (Basham will probably up his game now, he’s no quitter).

Is it just me or should +20M player have more levels than Rolls Royce - shite? And should player that expensive be more the Rolls Royce in Championship level?

I really hope best for Berge and United together, but it's bit hard to see Berges overhyping at times. He did good stuff in saturdays game, but he also got bit shut down by one marker. Just trying be objective with the judgement.
