Probably inevitable once two central midfielders were signed.

Good luck at Donny Ben.

Disappointed to see him go, but fully understandable. No realistic pathway through for him here given how things have developed.

Best of luck to young Benjamin.

I think another loan back to them would’ve been better for us as I think this lad will come on leaps and bounds.

It’s alright putting a sell on clause in the contract but when have Doncaster ever got a decent fee for anyone other than our very own Billy Sharp?

This is the reason I’d have rather kept him and loaned him back out to them and tied him down to a longer contract.

Unlucky for Whiteman, he's definitely made it in the league we occupied for 6 seasons but Wilder's arrival has just made the club 'outgrow' him. I have no doubt he'll eventually get to The Championship he's just not doing it quickly enough which very few players do and we need the players 'here and now'. If we were skint again he'd have a better chance of being used. I see the reason for the transfer (apparently forced by United) being to free up a few quid in wages and a fee but more importantly not subsidising other clubs whilst allowing the players contract to run down. We've got it spot on with this one but I still feel disappointed we haven't got another academy product into our squad.

GLTTL but if the choice was a move to Donny or early retirement I'd be shopping for bungalows in Bognor.

Oh. Surprised at this. I liked him. I thought he could do a job for us but he's obviously fallen down the pecking order. Hope this isn't one that we go on to regret but GLTTL.

They'll come through mate we just need to be patient . And as you've already succinctly pointed out when our Academy lads do make it into our squad it's cos they deserve to be there not because we haven't a pot to piss in .

Wish him all the best, he seems to have a really good head on his shoulders and is unlucky to have come through at an age when Wilder is a genius and has got us promoted and then able to sign players with 100 games plus, which has meant Whiteman has gone down the pecking order. It's a shame, as with Otis Khan, that they can't get in and then possibly go onto to be Championship players with us, but its better for all concerned to let him form his own career as a permanent, rather than loan after loan. I'll keep a close eye on the lad and wouldn't be surprised to see him play at the Championship at least.

Must admit to feeling a bit sad, for no other reason that I was looking forward to seeing him play for United, always looked like an intelligent, creative mid-field player (with what I hear it sounds like Doncaster have been shoe-horning him in to the team by playing him as an holding midfielder?) he did really well at Mansfield, with a load of goals, and apparently doing good at Donny. anyway another great prospect sold :/ but to be realistic and like a lot on here have said he would probably find it hard to get a game with United, he needs games so probably be best for the boy, the fee wouldn’t have been much but a good sell on clause will be good! So another you talented player leaves the Lane, looks like I will have to take a few occasional games in at Donny if I want to see him play :/

I would reckon we were covering ourselves just in case. But now - with two more midfielders and the rise of Regan Slater - Ben was clearly needing first team football which he wouldn't get at Bramall Lane. Good management for the lad's career.

We were. Ferguson confirmed that on Radio Sheffield when Whiteman came back.
Hope he goes on to have a good career.

For me this reminds me of how it was when Sharp left for Scunthorpe. Yes, a player that might develop given the oppportunities, but unfortunate to be playing in a position where we are arguably strongest and therefore unable to provide those opportunities. It wouldn’t surprise me if he rose up the leagues in future years, but had he stayed his development would probably suffer.

Wonder where little Louis Reed stands now ? I can't see him being ahead of Whiteman in the pecking order.
Getting a good grounding at Chesterfield he’ll come back and establish himself in CWs plans

Can't help but think this is gonna come back to bite us . Would of let him finish his loan and re evaluate in the summer with a full season of L1 behind him. Probably only be worth more.

GLTTL. Sad to see him go. Thought when he played in midfield in that shite Adkins team he showed promise.

Agree, I bet the sale price is surprisingly low. Donny are skint and can’t afford much.
But I expect there'll be some clauses in our favour.
Like a large 25% sell on and maybe a buy back at a cheap rate clause (with conditions).

An (the?) august (!?!?!?!?!) South Yorkshire newspaper (sic) states it is a " six figure fee"
Even at the low(est) end I reckon that is decent coin, especially with 'sell on' n'all

GLTTL.

Hopefully we have a sell on?

"It would be tough for him to get into our side at present given the strength we have in that area of the team, but should Ben's career progress as we think it could, then, as a club, we've covered ourselves for the future in terms of a sell-on."
The Tuftmeister

great business from chris , upped the quality of the squad, keepin squad numbers sensible , there was always going to be casualties,
Best of luck to the lad, he will get game time at Donny win win situation all round

Whiteman the deep midfielder in 4-3-3 at Scunny tonight. Ideal position for him. Good luck to a genuine lad.
