Player Suggestion Ben Mee

I was surprised when he said it
I’m starting to think that with so many irons in the fire if the others come off Mee might not be offered a deal?
Robbo and RND could well leave before the end of the window. Godfrey can play RB so we might see a back 4 of Burrows, Mee, Tanganga, Godfrey. Then we'll have McCallum, Bindon, Seriki on the bench.

Edit: and the Swedish lad too. Yes we would be well stocked even with RND and JLT going.

Wayne Allison up there of course.
Wayne Allison will always be a legend for me, my mate played at Chesterfield with him. He said if he didn’t score in a game he had a woman on speed dial who he paid for sex, he had a rule where he had to pay her a visit on the way home to get his frustration out.

I imagine she put a lot away for retirement during Allison’s spell at Chesterfield!

I really hope we get a move on with Ben Mee, I think he could be such an important signing for us.

A more than capable player at this level, a sensible dressing room leader (which we've lacked for a while now) and a potential coach at the end of his contract.

I've always really liked him. I hope his contract isn't dependent on offloading JLT.

I think we will
I too think he would be a good signing not as sexy as others being mentioned but one who at the end of the season would have proved invaluable

It has the feel of we will make a decision next week on Mee if we don’t sign the 3 of Godfrey nils and tanganga. If we sign all 3 I don’t think Mee will happen

Don’t get the next week claim

Why next week and not by windows end, what does it matter ?? Is it to do with Boro game, is that the target

Unless it’s a difference in terms of wages and length of contract then I’m not sure what it could be fitness wise, they must already have a pretty good idea if he is fit enough and how long he can play for

If they don’t have a signing done and ready to go then I can only assume it’s Godfrey on loan who they might go with v Millwall

I remember in the promotion season under Wilder, we had Richard Stearman in the squad. He did not start a lot of games. But, what he did do was regularly come on for the last 5 minutes, when he was an absolute boss at clearing our six yard box from set pieces and real menace in the opposition box if we had a corner. By all accounts he was an absolute leader and standard setter off the pitch, despite his reduced role in the first team. You can imagine Mee bringing similar value, if he jones alongside a Godfrey/Tanganga - Bindon partnership.

I always think it's class when an older player who's been there, seen and done it can come in and bring on the younger players. No point in comparing him to McGrath who was world class, or Cowans who'd played in the European Cup and Serie A, or Gary Speed, he's not in that class bless him.

But thinking Ugo Ehiogu, Craig Short- other lads to be his legs but Mee to dominate in the air and organise them, absolute class signing. I'm sure we're seeing who else we get in but also having a proper look at him. With his age and recent injury record we'd be moaning if we threw a contract straight at him- feels about right to have a look how he gets on for a week or two first.

Be bloody lovely to give RND fresh start elsewhere, move on Robbo and have Tangana, Godfrey, Bindon and Mee in the squad wouldn't it (the Swedish lad's a bonus if we get his exemption).

A lot of us probably said the same when we signed Craig Short in 2005.
Maybe. But that doesn't negate the fact that in his last 5 seasons Mee has generally been out for over 100 days per season due to injury.
Is this what we want leading our back line?

Not sure we can expect a lot from him. Defenders can play well into their 30's, but he hasn't played a lot of football for a while now.

He'll bring some intangibles, but other than that I'll keep my expectations low.

He’s played more than Godfrey in the last few seasons.

Martin Cranie in 18/19 too, didn't start too much but always looked solid whenever called upon.

Not enough respect is shown to Jake Wright for this ridiculous record!

I was a huge fan of Jake Wright and there is absolutely no doubt that he had a massive influence on our outstanding run of results at that time .

His reading of the game , positional sense , calmness under pressure and timing of a tackle were at times so good that they brought back memories of the great man himself .

In the category of players no one had even heard of before we signed them who turned out to be key players for us , for me he is up there with the likes of Billy Dearden and John Flynn albeit their careers with us were for a longer time .

Level of disrespect shown to JLT who has played in team and levels way beyond most players as well as being a great servant to this club is staggering.

I’ve knocked him for individual mistakes but not to levels in hearing.

Anyone disagree when he came on last week he was by far our best defender? Mee is only a one in one out swap imo, it’s a sticky plaster not a log term solution to a broken defence created when we failed to bring in a CB when Souter got crocked.
