But is it 8 million? Once a figure gets thrown in it doesn't take long for it to be taken as true, I cannot believe the buying/selling club are chucking the figures around so who is,the agent? Or could the figure just be, well bollox.

Clubs make mistakes and miss players all the time.
True but they generally make the right call. Same with Brereton. Without doubt he has some potential but 8m is an awful lot to risk for a championship club. For premier league clubs that’s pocket money and is a cheap risk but not so at our level

No idea who this lad is or what he's worth but we have to get with the times if we want to sign strikers. We are not going to get a proven championship striker on the cheap and pay him peanuts.

The market is the market and with Facebook, Amazon Prime etc all showing an interest in TV rights the amount of money coming onto the game is going to carry on going up. My guess is that 5m will be the going rate for an average full back in 2 years time !

I can understand it to an extent, but we can’t say we only want proven championship quality strikers and expect it to be cheap.

And no, because we’d be the first club to go under from trying that :D but we should be able to spend big on one striker with the money we’ve brought in.

I think the debate centres around whether or not Brereton could be regarded as "proven"

This "we have to get with the times" attitude is indicative of those who bypass the reality of clubs entering the financial black-hole that can suffocate a club.

I think Wilder's doing his best, but please don't crucify the guy for applying healthy, sensible attitudes to buying players. We may have to face the reality of staying in the Championship for a few seasons, and if this means we grow stronger while becoming ready for the Prem then is that such a hardship? Unless of course you adopt a spend at all costs approach and not consider the implications of failure?

IMO Brereton typifies the ridiculous prices for strikers at the moment. He may come good and good luck to Blackburn if they buy him and that does indeed happen but ~£8m for someone of his age, experience and record is a huge risk in anyone's book. I didn't think I'd ever say it but it makes Waghorn at £5m look ok value even though he hasn't exactly set the world alight at DCFC so far.

I, for one, am glad that CW has refused to get drawn into that game. I look forward to which of his targets will finally be landed given those liked cover a wide range of different types. For the very little it's worth, I still think the main component missing from Utd's attacks is pace and I'd therefore be minded to go with a quick powerful striker e.g. Wells over a lump at this stage. If Johnson could also be added to the squad I think Utd would be a far better team and be better equipped with Plan B and C to break stubborn, deep-lying defences down.

It most certainly will not be 8 million guaranteed even if that’s the figure at all.

It’ll take a multitude of factors of him being a success to take it to that and possibly a sell on fee. I’d hazard a guess at something like 4 mil upfront with the rest dependant on apps and goals. Bit like what Bournemouth gave us for Brooks but we are guaranteed all that money.

If Brereton turns out to be the player he looked against Arsenal in the FA Cup, then he's worth a look. But he's been quite ordinary apart from that.

Not worth 8 million upfront. If it's 1-2 plus add ons he's definitely worth a punt. We need youth up top. Happy to pay 8 if conditional on promotion, goals and international appearances.

I’m certain it will be. No one will pay that upfront for him

Maybe we should hope that they get him.

As much as I’d like to sign him as a calculated risk with upside it’s a huge gamble. How’s much cash do they have ? Surely they couldn’t do freeman as well?

And Lilia has never in his life played a diminutive play maker - boro surely isn’t right for Freeman. Maybe we go back in??

With Brereton’s age, I’d say it’s unlikely he will be worthless in a few years time, if anything with how the market is going he could be worth £15m in two years.

I doubt Forest would sell him anyway unless it’s silly money £12m+ because they know his potential worth.

I reckon this is the transfer that Wilder mentioned in his post match interview, the madness of newly promoted teams going in for 8 million quid strikers.

I can understand Wilder not getting sucked into the mad auctions that go on nowadays with transfer fees and wages, not if he thinks the player isn't worth it.

Got to agree with itsinyerblood and Roygbiv, looks like the club have not kept up with the real world. Think CW has been tasked to do it ont cheap with one hand whilst we ripped of Bournemouth for £12m for a player that's hardly played 90 minutes consecutively for us with the other hand. If Brooke's is worth £12m then a young striker with prospects is worth £5-£8m, it's just simply relative.

I had a look into what the Forest fans thought of him and appart from his Arsenal performance they haven’t been impressed with his other performances. Think he’s either gona be one for the future or fade into obscurity living off his Arsenal performance..

Just like Jordan Slew, Jacob Mellis or Wayne Quinn. (I'm sure other clubs have sold well in the past too)

Blackburn are 'doing a Wednesday' of three years ago - going for it, but not balls-deep going for it. If they were serious, they'd stop scouting off Wikipedia. And get rid of the seriously-limited Tony Mowbray. Having been in the third tier some teams think that, being in the Championship, you're within sniffing distance of the PL. Villa, Middlesbrough, Leeds, West Brom etc. may disagree.
