CONFIRMED Ben Brereton-Diaz joins on loan with option of permanent

Bloody hell, tough crowd.

He's got 3 goals and 3 assists in about 7/8 games. His off the ball movement is excellent and he's definitely made us more potent at the top of the pitch.

He's working his way back to fitness. He gives his all for the team.
Unlike the PL, where we were afforded a lot more space because we weren't deemed much of a threat, he's now coming up against low blocks much of the time.

He's doing really well.

Got to say I'm very disappointed with Brereton's overall performance levels, despite his goals.

Where has his energy and athleticism gone?

Has he regressed or is he just playing within himself at a lower level?

First 2 or 3games I was a little concerned.

But since then he's been playing at a very good tempo. (Check Campbell's goal against QPR and where BBD started his run from to get the assist)

Every so often you get a game where no one's particularly at the races. Hamer, O"Hare and Rak-Sakyi all played below average .

I dont think it's fair to single out Diaz here, though I agree with others that say he seems more comfortable on the left side. Question is will Hamer be willing to play on the right side?

He is not fully match fit and although has become a specialist as this wide forward, he is not really a winger and if not scoring won't offer a huge amount out wide. But still 3 goals and 2 assists while rusty and always feels like we are threatening when he is on the pitch, everything he does is about getting us closer to the opposition goal. The one new signing who has improved our starting XI. When he and Campbell start together, we are effectively one nil up. My only gripe, is that he just to out of puff at times to get back and help the right back...where we already have a soft spot.

A few assists, a few goals, only been here a month or so. He has done 100 times more than Tom Cannon.

Although not sure the right wing suits him.

The strange thing is that for most of the second half against PNE we didn't have anyone out wide on the left. The one time we did manage to get Burrows forward we scored from a terrific ball into the box. Other than that Burrows never got into a forward position.
This is most probably down to the threat from the opposition, and to be fair their no. 29 was a danger all game. It must be the way they are being told to play, Hamer tucked in, Burrows and JLT not too far forward so that we get caught out.
Playing Diaz out wide left has been tried and it never really worked.

We tried playing Hamer centrally and O'Hare on the right. Both looked really good, not sure why we didn't do it again.

Well I hope you're right. Because in that case he'll get us up. But I think he's had long enough to be showing quite a bit more

he’s been fine IMO. Nothing spectacular but far from bad. Exactly what i expect of him. He’s a good signing at this level and he’s added value to the squad and first 11. I still believe he’s below the threshold needed for the premiership though but thats a different conversation entirely.

Doing well playing mostly in an unfamiliar position. He's playing a very different role in the team to last season.

Full backs are terrified of him - not because he's going to dazzle them with skill and skip past them, but because its not often they're up against a bundling centre forward build on the wing. He tires earlier than he used to (clearly was not even squad fit never mind match fit when we first signed him) - but defenders will breath a sigh of relief when he inevitably has to be subbed each game.

It's almost as if we are the more dominant side or at least on equal footing rather than having to try and counter attack to create.

If he's here next year he's likely to be involved more like he was last year.

Campbell and BBD have been our primary outlets for goals since January. Not sure how anyone can say he’s not been at it (despite his pre-season effectively ending in February!). The boys been exactly as expected - effective. Long may it continue.

He’s clearly not match fit in comparison to BBD last year …. I can see why he hasn’t started for Southampton if that was the condition he was in … but suitable for the champ

He looked lively coming on off the bench. Happy he bagged another too. Is he best utilised as a super sub when the likes if rak-sakyi and Hamer tire?

Only issue being the bench looks really uninspiring when they all start.
