We've got a highly rated manager ...
The largest support base in the league
Some of the best training facilities
It's a nice city compared to most
Comparatively speaking, we've got a much bigger budget and potential than most

Footballers seem to be increasingly aware of their quality of life now so there are going to be cases where someone from the south will not want to move this far but for the most part they'd probably look where best to further their career. We're always Bookies favourite, so anyone joining at the start of the season would likely be asuming that we'll be competing at the top.

I think you'll appreciate me playing "Devil's Advocate" .....

Highly rated? Since Southampton, his managerial career has been with clubs in Division's lower than his previous club. Instead of progressing, his career has regressed. Highly rated? hmm.....

The largest support base in the League? In the League? Football League? Division perhaps? In the Division, but not the League.

Some of the best training facilities? Compared to? Concord Park, Graves Park, Meadowhead Sports Ground. Totally agree. Let's not think Shirecliffe is Melwood, Etihad Campus Development, Carrington, all within two hours drive of Sheffield.

A nice city compared....? Yes, that's yours. Nothing compares to Sheffield. Just a shame about the blue.

Bigger budget? We don't know the facts on this point, it's all assumption and presumption and at the very best, wild and extreme guess work.
What about Wigan Athletic? Bury? Coventry City?

As for being bookie's favourites. I've never met a poor bookie. They aren't daft. It's about time these charlatans had United down as outsiders for promotion, make it more of a sporting chance.

So, we both agree that Sheffield is ace, wonderful, fabulous and is a great place to live. Or is it....

Ah, but we're making a similar assumption to what a footballer would. They'll know less about the club than us.

How far have we fallen?

there is something horribly wrong with our transfer/wages policy in that I don't doubt we are paying big wages the problem is in my opionion we are paying them to the wrong players.

I would guess Sharp, Sammon, Hammond and Brayford are each paid somewhere in the region of 8-10k a week and to me that's a massive waste of money...especially on the middle two. Our problem seems to be we can't identify the lower league, up and coming players with the potential to go on to greater things.

There's loads of em around, for example my local div two team Wycombe have produced Matty Phillips, Jordan Ibe, Kourtney Hause and Matt Ingram in the last few years and Aaron Pierre will be the next. Up the road at Oxford they are building a great team and the likes of Roofe and O'Gara will play at a higher level.

I'd sooner we were paying the wages for this type of player rather than another 30 + year old or ex premier league has been.

How far have we fallen?
Far.
It's not just that though, footballers have changed too. What's more important? Playing in front of a crowd? Or 1k extra a week in their bank?

I'm not sure it's illusions of grandeur (but I grant there is a minority who seem to believe we 'deserve' to be in a higher league.

Agreed ..... we do not "deserve" to be in a higher league ....... that delusion is reserved for our neighbours in Barnsley South, the massive piggy bas**rds !!

However, its only due to extended periods of gross incompetence and horrific mis-management of the Club that we are not in a higher Division.

I would have thought up and coming players would jump at the chance to come to us, knowing full well if they made a good fist of it, we'll let them move on.

They'll also probably know that we're going nowhere fast and they'll get booed like fuck if they're part of a team that strings a few losses/draws together.

Expect:

We Tried
Working Hard Behind the Scenes
and Made Enquiries to be winging their way to the Lane.

Don't expect Over the Line to make an appearance though.

Also expect 'player we spent all our time and efforts on despite playing often for a team in a higher division to come in the loan window and be of no real help' to make an appearance.

fuck this depressing club.
no fuck the whinging fans like you whove got absolutely no faith in the club i sit near a few of the mardy blade fans in the kop and i end pissed off with them after the first half yes transfers are not goin our way but its no reason to lose faith in the club
