That’s a great summary 👍

Just booked myself tickets for the Millwall game on 26 February. I am in London that weekend with the family. Will be my first Blades game ever. I hope the atmosphere will be great.

Jees, what a game to pick!?

Just keep yourself to yourself when at the game, and don't let it be known to anyone that you have a liking/interest in the Blades. United have no rivalry, or history with Millwall, but they are renowned and pride themselves on being nasty, vicious thugs. Some of them wouldn't think twice about giving you a good kicking, just because you're not from the local area. Also, if you're not familiar with that part of London, it's a bit of a slum, so best to get in and out as quickly as possible.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll leave my blades shirt at home then 😄

As has been said mate, Millwall can be a very dangerous place. There has been some history between the Blades and Millwall hooligans and (not wanting to come across all Sheffield Wednesday like lol) we will be seen by them as a big club with a big away following coming down to their patch!

Where abouts in the ground are you? In the Blades or Millwall end? If you are in the Blades end, go to the London Bridge station area for a beer before the game. There will be lots (100s) of Blades fans there. The atmosphere is brilliant and we all get the train down to Millwall (South Bermondsey) together at around 2.15ish. From South Bermondsey station there is a walkway directly to the away end of the ground. So it is safe and of course in any case you will be surrounded by lots of Blades fans.

If you are on the Millwall end, under no circumstances let it out that you are supporting the Blades. This might sound a bit melodramitic as, of course, the majority of Millwall fans are just normal guys who wouldn't cause harm to you, but I wouldn't take the chance if I were you. They have a significant number of fucking idiots!

I'll be doing London Bridge, then cowards alley to the away end (as the locals call it)
😂😂

I could not book tickets for the away end so we are in the Dockers stand. I am with the wife and kids so will be low profile. We will not take any risk. Still looking forward to it though. I can take some pictures from the away end.

Far from being a Slum, the Bermondsey Beer Mile (which runs more or less to the turnstiles) is about the hippest place in London on Saturday mornings/dinner.

They were even worse in the sixties, along with Derby at the old Derby ground, had a few bust ups there i can tell you!

I went in the Millwall end as a kid at the Old Den during the 80s. Wouldn't recommend it. 2/10

Been in all four sides of the old Den. I was in the Millwall end when there was a bit of "Porterfield Out" from the away end. Millwall fan said to me - "yeah, but you fucking loved him when he scored in the Cup Final"

I politely explained that weren't us, that was another team playing in red n white stripes.

There's been a rivalry and history for about 40 years.

Sorry, I meant close city rivalry and singing songs on the terraces about how much you dislike each other, like Blades v Wendy and Blades v Leeds etc. Blades and Millwall supporters only think of each other a few hours either side of the match, usually to give each other a good kicking. Other than that they don’t give a fig about each other.

I do remember a Millwall fan dying in a fight with Blades fans on Arundal Gate, in the early 90's. Also seem to remember Millwall fans taking great delight in robbing a Blades supporter of his false leg after a match. The Millwall fans taking it in turns to be photographed with said unusual battle spoils. The Millwall fan dying is definitely correct, but please do correct me if the leg incident is a load of cobblers, as my recollection might be getting confused with something else?

Anything north of the Thames is "up north" for those fuckers

Think the leg thing was made up sadly. It was funny though.

A Millwall supporting fella used to post on here from time to time, seemed a decent sort but forgot his name.

If the Wall wanted some pre-game fun , why don't they come up to London Bridge , when it's well-known that away fans gather there ?

Whats that road called ?
Well. It's not really one road. There are many, many microbreweries & craft beer bars in or around railway arches on both the West side and East side of the railway line. Start roughly where Tower Bridge Rd crosses Druid Street (put Southwark Brewing Co in Google Maps). Then it's walk South East along the roads, alleys & industrial units next to and either side of the railway. Fourpure Brewing is a bit of a piss take now as they've sold out to an international brewing multinational. But they're effectively the last one under South Bermondsey station by the ground.

Don't scare the poor guy!

Just don't wear colours and you'll be fine.

Shame you are not in the away end.

But you have good places to grab a beer in London Bridge and Borough. Not so much at Bermondsey where the ground is. There are plenty of London Blades who I'm sure will be able to post where to grab a drink nearer to the game.

Besides which they'll be so grateful for Burke and Freeman they'll want to keep on our good side 😉

Very exaggerated

Burke and Freeman. Not sure if they sound like a firm of solicitors, or a 21st century version of Edinburgh grave robbers. Probably the latter as they have both been robbing a living from football for some time.

Generally, that's not the way it works mate - just like if the new breed of BBC types wanted some pre-game fun then why not go the Howard Hotel area?

Lots of plod everywhere, the Wall (as you call them) would be seen as the aggressors looking for trouble (which would of course be true) and be targetted/arrested by the plod.

" pre-game fun" occurs when other teams are really up for it - like when Everton went down there in the cup a couple of years ago and rather than do London Bridge/train/cowards alley, they did the scenic route on their tod to Surrey Quays tube. Then there was "pre-game fun".

Nope it was definitely his leg, not his cobblers ;-)

Beerschot made a gamely comeback in an entertaining 3-3 draw against Flanders' Zulte Waregem.

They took the lead early from a rather poorly struck corner from Holzhauser. He had recently committed to stay at Beerschot through the winter window. Anyway, his intended inswinger didn't really get off the ground and the low centre was missed by those at the near post and fell kindly to young Greek centre back Konstantopoulos to slot home first time from 7 yards out, his first for the club.

This had followed an abberation of a handball decision not given when Shankland's shot was palmed away by the defender. The referees body have come out since and admitted a mistake was made by the referee and VAR in not awarding but that is scant consolation to the team that could have been 2-0 to the good. Image below. Hand miles away from the body. It seems when your luck is out, it's really out:

Zulte equalised from a breakaway on a Beerschot corner with a clinical finish after a slick counter offensive.

They then got a penalty of their own given by VAR for handball which I'm sure was gauling for the home support.

To compound this another fast paced counter attack saw them 1-3 down. You can see from the highlights but I thought the goalie made it a bit easy for the striker. The ball got put through his legs but with 2 defenders around the forward I think he may have been better staying back.

So a pretty poor scenario at half-time. But it does seem Beerschot may have found themselves a new hero in the guise of young Ilias Sebaoui. He had a calm assurance about him, not too dissimilar to N'Diaye. He carried the ball effortlessly forward to lay into the path of the Cameroonian Noubissi. The ball broke a little as he was pressed and Shankland, the ex-Dundee United player was on hand to slot home as the ball broke. His second in 2 games. After a disappointing season he might be finding his feet, albeit late in the day.

In the closing stages Beerschot were camped out in the opposition third and the pressure finally told. A penalty was given for a slightly soft handball; it was handball, but nowhere near as glaring as the one not given. More ball to hand and not as unnatural as the earlier claim. But a deserved award in the context of the game. Out of all the experienced players on the pitch, it was the young 20 year old, who had only entered the fray in the 72nd minute who courageously stepped up to the spot and placed a low penalty to the keeper's far right corner out of the reach of the dispairing dive. All the more impressive when you consider the state of the game and that the spot kick was in the 92nd minute.

There was still time for more Beerschot attacking but Avenatti was unable to beat the keeper with a header being pushed away for a corner. From the next attack a subsequent scramble was pounced upon by the keeper who made a meal of being injured but I didn't see any contact. It did enough to waste time so that the game remained all square.

Possibly should have won on the balance of play but could also have lost with the half time scoreline.

With Seraing also getting a point from a 0-0 at Eupen it did little in the grand scheme of things for Beerschot's prospects this season though at least the fight back and the emergence of youth provided some positivity in an otherwise unfulfilling season.

There was little news in the transfer market this week for them. The earlier loans of Rigo and Avenatti were all in terms of incomings. A young left winger Issa Soumaré was loaned to Rouen in Ligue 2 in France. He managed 11 games at the start of the season, scoring once but had featured only sparingly since Torrente took over from Peter Maes. In a bizarre twist, the second player to leave was a loanee from Gambia, Abdoulie Sanyang, a right winger, who not only mirrored the record of 11 appearances and 1 goal but immediately after his loan was cancelled, joined Ligue 2 Grenoble, whose next match is against Rouen!

Beerschot's next game is against Mechelen who they lost to 1-0 at home earlier in the season. Last year's away fixture saw Beerschot 3-2 winners with the goals coming from Tissoudali, Coulibaly and Van Den Bergh, so they'll be hoping for a repeat scoreline as they look to keep safety at least a mathematical possibility for as long as possible.

My mate is a Zulte-Waregem ST holder and I got a sarcastic message at the weekend saying "we can't even beat your shitty sister club". I think he's expected ZW to go down as well.

Fucking lol at you lot expecting PurpleRain to rock up in the Millwall home end with a think south Yorkshire accent, blades tattoo on his forehead singing Shoreham boys.

Enjoy the game mate, will be a great day at a proper proper old school english football club.

It was 1986

I understand he tried to do a flying kick and smashed his head on the pavement. Apparently in their spirit of 'all for one' they just carried him back onto their bus.
United were in the Mulberry a regular haunt, so at away games, to the tune of the US GI marching song, you could hear;

'Millwall came to the Mulbereeee
There they met the BBC'

I don't know the rest but I'm sure someone else will fill it in

Compared to Zulte Waregem we are a propper club with propper fans. They are not in our league although our results are shit now, we will always be a bigger club then those farmers.
