I know WBA have said they have no problem with us playing him for the final....and i know james shield has said he can play......but have we got confirmation from the authorities...my mind wont be at ease until i see something from the football league. it would be good if the people down at the lane put something up on the website

you know fatty samuels is sharperning his pencil (thats if he hasnt eaten it first)

I worked it out that he couldn't play in the final.

Joined on the 20th of feb, 93 day loan should expire 24/05/2009

Unless they're counting the 21st as the 1st day

Will SOMEONE please tell united Beattie CANT PLAY!

They seem to be going on an agreement between themselves and west brom

well ive read the rule book, and agreement or not

HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY

what an earth are they playing at, they seem set that he will be involved, even if he is on the bench, they will throw us out the premier league if we get there!!

this is quite worrying.....I hope United have double checked all of this with the authorities.....

I would suggest that the lack of a definitive statement regarding his elligibility has more to do with KB trying to keep the opposition guessing rather then anything else.

Surely, given the events surrounding our relegation, nobody thinks that we would put someone in the team if we weren't 100% confident that he was elligable.

There is a difference between loan types, if he signed on a "normal loan" where he can be recalled at any time there is a time limit, if he has been signed on a "long term loan" he cannot be recalled by West Brom but there are not the same time limits. Think of those players signed on season long loans and you get the picture, what we don't know (unless someone can tell me differently) is what type of loan he was signed on. I am not sure if long term loans can be signed in the window or just at the start of the season.

Whoops sorry for the double post meant to attach this

There were reports that Beattie would return to the Hawthorns following the Blades’ victory against Preston but West Brom have confirmed the terms of the agreement between the two clubs means he is eligible for May 25.

Surely WBA wouldn't get it wrong as well.... would they?

I don't think it makes much of a difference. I think they know he can't play, the whole Henderson/Ward injury situation is a facade!

You watch, both of them will start, Blackwell has done it too many times already this season, it's all mind games with Burnley.

Wait and see

I put my trust in the management at BDTBL without fear.

The Blades are a lot of things ............ but not CHEATS !

i suppose we can always sue to get out ticket money back if they field inelegible player....might as well start these compensation jokes going especially as we gona get so many if go up......but i do worry that things havent had the ok from the football league, forget what wba and james shield says..its the authorities confirmation we want!!

I have someone investigating through official links to United.
I have asked for an official statement if possible to resolve any uncertainty

I'll let you all know as soon as I do

FROM ANOTHER SITE

Claret fan in peace here

Seems a strange one this. Rhys Williams at our place was in exactly the same position. Emergency loan period ended, wanted to keep him until end of play offs, permission granted by Middlesborough, appealled to FA, appeal rejected as can't go beyond 93 days under any circumstances.

If he plays, based on the above, I suspect he will be ineligible.

beattie will be his 95th day, this is Exactly the same as the burnley player, so how is it even possible that their player cant play but ours can

Does anyone genuinely think that the team selection and eligibility would be left to advice from James Shield and WBA?

The club need not make any statements what so ever, all that does is strengthen Burnley's position on predicting our line up/system.

Why, as fans, do we need a statement on this?

because im more stressed and worried about this than the game itself, if we were to win, how could i enjoy it fully, when ill be expecting us to be thrown out the premier league for playing an illegal player

That's the thing though, do you really think they'd be stupid enough to not ensure he's eligible?

He either is or isn't. The club will know. Why strengthen Burnleys position by making statements on the matter?

If you are reading Mr Coyle, please ignore the next part.....

As you've looked at the rules and investigated it, could you tell me if he's signed on a "short-term" loan or a "long term" loan? as that will be the key to the question :)

If it's long term, he's fine till the end of June.

If it's short term, he's not playing :)

Chances are, we'll have two fit strikers started ahead of him anyway.

Rhys Williams signed for Burnley on a short term deal, so that that Boro could recall him at any time if they so wished. Hence he cannot play, as short term deals adhere to the 93 day rule.

From back in February...

http://www.sufc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10418~1563976,00.html

... the Blades have signed West Brom striker Craig Beattie on loan until the end of the season

Also, Rhys Williams was signed on a "three month loan deal" at the end of January according to the Lancashire Telegraph... although how they work that one out I don't know!

EDIT: It's alright, the 93 day thing works out for Williams.

Also, Soccerbase is showing Beattie's loan as open-ended... dunno what that means.

There's no such thing as an "X Month" loan deal :)

Here's the rules on loans:

48.1 Short Term Loans. Subject to the provisions of Regulation 47.3, Short Term Loan transfers shall only be approved in accordance with following provisions:

48.1.1 A Club can have up to 8 Players on Short Term Loan during any Season, but no more than 4 at any one time.

48.1.2 Short Term Loan transfers shall be for a period of not less than 28 days or for more than 93 days in any one Season. The loan period is inclusive of the start date and finishing date.

48.1.3 The Short term loan of a goalkeeper may be subject to a recall clause (including within the original 28 days) but this may only be implemented in exceptional circumstances with the consent of the Executive.

48.1.4 The Executive shall not permit a Short term loan transfer for a period in excess of 93 days in any one Season save in extenuating circumstances, at the discretion of the Executive.

48.1.5 Short term loans which subsequently become permanent transfers, or simultaneously upon termination become Long Term Loans, shall not count against a Club’s quota of Short Term Loans for that season.

48.2 Long Term Loans. Subject to the provisions of Regulation 47.3, Long Term Loan transfers shall only be approved in accordance with the following provisions:

48.2.1 A Player can only be transferred on a Long Term Loan if he was under the age of 23 on the 30th June prior to the Season in which the Long Term Loan transfer is intended to take place.

48.2.2 A Club can have up to 4 Players on Long Term Loan at any one time during any Season.

48.2.3 The registration of a Long Term Loan will only be permitted during the period 1st July to 31st December in any Season.

48.2.4 The period of a Long Term Loan shall expire no earlier than the end of the Season in which the Long Term Loan takes place and a Player signed on such a transfer must complete the loan period and may not be recalled by his original Club at any time during that loan period save:

a when the Player is recalled and transferred permanently to another Club; and
b in the case of a goalkeeper whose agreement may contain a recall clause which may only be implemented in exceptional circumstances with the consent of the Executive.

48.2.5 Long term loan transfers which subsequently become permanent transfers before 31st December in the same season shall not count against a Club’s quota of such Long Term Loans for that season.

49 Where a Club has already taken its full quota of Short Term Loan transfers in accordance with Regulations 48.1.1, the Executive shall be empowered to approve a further temporary transfer of an additional goalkeeper in accordance with the following provisions:

49.1 If all the professional goalkeepers at a Club are certified by an independent medical practitioner as being unfit to play, a Club may register (either before or after the deadline laid down in Regulation 37.4) a further goalkeeper on loan.

49.2 The Executive shall allow a Club to sign such a goalkeeper for a period of 7 days (notwithstanding the provisions of Regulation 48.1.2), inclusive of the start and finishing date.

49.3 Any such loan transfer shall be subject to the League having received (including by facsimile) the appropriate medical certificate(s) and the Executive having confirmed that the circumstances conform with the provisions of this Regulation. The period of the loan may be renewed for 7
days at a time but further medical certification must be provided on each occasion.

49.4 Such loan transfers in respect of the same goalkeeper may not exceed 93 days in any one Season.

49.5 Loan transfers of goalkeepers under this Regulation are in addition to the quotas for Short Term Loan transfers permitted under Regulation 48.1.1.

Hendo is in an oxygen tent!

Sheffield United striker Darius Henderson is spending two hours every day in an oxygen tent in a bid to be fit for the Championship play-off final.

The Blades tackle Burnley at Wembley on Monday with Henderson eager to overcome the Achilles injury which kept him out of the second leg of their semi-final victory over Preston.

The former Gillingham ad Watford forward has previous experience of securing promotion to the Premier League having found the net for the Hornets as they defeated Leeds 3-0 at the Millennium Stadium in 2006.

And manager Kevin Blackwell will give his eight-goal striker every opportunity to prove he is ready to tackle the Clarets.
Recovery time

Blackwell said: "We are working as hard as we can and trying everything we know to get Darius fit for the game. That includes sticking him in an oxygen chamber for an hour's session twice a day.

"It is a medical fact that the more oxygen you can get into the body then the quicker the recovery time is from injury.

"We are keeping our fingers crossed with Darius and we shall leave a decision on him right up to the last minute.

"From here on in it is all down to how we accelerate the recovery process - and Mother Nature."

But Blades boss Blackwell will not select Henderson unless he is certain the forward will last the distance and has every faith in the Bramall Lane squad as he plots a course to the top-flight.

No risks

He added: "He will have to be 100 per cent fit if he is going to play. There is no way I shall be taking any risks with a player's fitness for a match as big and important as this one.

"The real bonus from my point of view, though, is that I have a squad in who I have absolute faith and confidence.

"They possess the ability to adapt if Darius is ruled out. We have the luxury of being flexible enough to change our personnel or system without weakening the team."

Lo-and-behold, an ambiguous story regarding Ward's fitness! Who'd have thunk it??

Sheffield United striker Jamie Ward has admitted he is 'touch and go' to be fit for Monday's Championship play-off final with Burnley.

Ward is struggling to make the Wembley showpiece with a hamstring problem, but he will be given until the last minute to prove his fitness.

The Northern Ireland international is keen to make the game, which he describes as the biggest of his career.

"It's going to be touch and go," Ward told Sky Sports News.

"We will find out on Monday morning when we do a fitness test but hopefully I will come through it.

"It is the biggest game of my career so far and obviously I would love to be involved in it.

"I can't work too hard because hamstrings are always prone to going again so I will let time heal it."

just spoke to Paul Walker Radio Sheffield, he told me he is confirmed eligible with FA and West Brom

To be honest, I wouldn't believe everything that came out of Paul Walker's mouth.

A short break in the loan ;)

Perhaps old Turry does know what he's doing after all eh?

:)

Fat Sam will have a field day with that though.

Why? It's 100% permitted within the rules to loan a player more than once, providing the total loan period doesn't exceed 93 days.

This would have been an emergency loan, and as far as I am aware then this cannot go over 93 days....

It would actually be his 94th..... but hey, still over.

Why, as fans, do we need a statement on this?

To ease our minds? To cut out any taunts should he play? To shut Martin Samuels up when he tries to spout crap.

Why? It's 100% permitted within the rules to loan a player more than once, providing the total loan period doesn't exceed 93 days.

The loan window has closed for emergency loans I believe.

Yeah but it will be the 1st time he will of heard of any club doing something like that.

You know Fat Sam any excuse these days.
