Chaps,

Training at the Lane. Am in two minds on this. He is a goal scorer and good for a season. Won't be cheap. But, he is taking the wages /position away from some quicker, younger & hungrier, possibly two such players.

Any thoughts?

If he's available then sign him. He's only 33! Older players are still scoring at the highest level.

Beattie is a natural goalscorer and that ability doesnt just go away.

I cant imagine salary is an issue, otherwise a wealthier club would have already signed him.

Even if he was half the player we had previously, he's still better than anything we've got!

Its an absolute no brainer imo!

Very true...

Pace was never one of Beattie's assets and at 33 he's still got a couple of decent seasons in him before his legs go. So that's the remainder of this season in League 1 where we'll get promoted followed by him lifting the Championship title as we return to the Premier League.

No brainer for me too, his footballing brain will get him in the right positions not his speed. He will tear this league apart and give the fans a massive boost too although Im sure some people will find something about it to moan about

While we're at it, what's Marcus Bent up to?

:)

We've just announced a £32M debt. Perhaps it was lack of moaning about this type of thing that brought us to our knees in the first place?

We have Richard Cresswell, Ched Evans, And Chris porter who are all fairly slow, but who would you prefer to be on the end of a cross? Beattie, or one of that lot?

Beattie anytime.

Beattie has never been a quick striker but his positional sense was what got him goals plus he could smash a good free kick or penalty.

Evans should be better than he is, Cressy is getting on and the less said about Porter the better.

That's why we've allegedly got him on a 6 week contract rather than a 3 year one.

We all know its Brian Robson who's responsible for where we are now

We definitely do need pace though but I don't think we're tying up massive resources for him this time so we can hopefully get someone quick in Jan.

Where's Luton Shelton these days?

Shelton is scoring a couple of goals for his new club in the Turkey Süper Lig.

Not really been prolific but has scored a few goals since leaving us.

Robson may have been responsible for where we are now but someone backed him.....

If Beattie signs it will be the death of this club.

Why ???? as long as he is on realistic wages, which considering our recent financial statement he must be (if he signs)

Hes better than what we have got atm I know he hasnt got any pace that can be addressed by signing another player and hopefully getting rid of Porter.

The Robson era has put this club where it is now it was a gamble that didnt pay off

Give me ability over pace anyday ,Beattie or Slew or Littlejohn or Wiggan or Allan Wells ,like someone said before - no brainer.

If only it were that simple (ability V pace). Beattie on £2K per week is different to Beattie on £12K per week. That's my concern, married with the realisation that pace and athleticism seems to score so lowly on Wilson's priorities. Porter, McDonald, Flynn. Any money spent on Beattie wont be spent elsewhere.

Having said all that, it seems many are keen, so let's hope the boost in all round morale transfers through to the ptich together with whatever extra he brings.

I'm told a quick lad from Rotherham could be arriving - maybe before January.

I don't care where Shelton is (or Nade) as long as it's some distance from BDTBL.

haha Shelton was tounge in cheek but NADE!!!! He'd batter this league :)

Sadly Ted, his career record suggests he wouldn't. Another mythical departed hero I'm afraid. We could assemble a team of them. Really we could - no-one else wants them. There are reasons why Cotterill, Stead, Shelton, Nade and so many others have disappeared without trace. The same will happen to Montgomery when he finally becomes someone else's liability.

Yes, but we'd still have all of that lot, too! Our wage bill is too bloody high as it is.

Got to agree with Pinchy on the departed heroes (though he is too harsh on Cotterill, who was at least miles better than the man he replaced). Nade had two good games for us as I remember - In the win over Arsenal, and coming off the bench to help us snatch a draw against Bolton (when Kazim-Richards scored that banana shot). That was the lot.

Id have the Cokacola kid back any day too! I never took much liking to Cotteril though, he wound me up no end, he could actually beat a man but then didnt know what to do

Kazim-Kazim is worth getting back but Cotterill was too light weight.

People are deluded if they think we'd be able to get Kazim-Richards back. As if he'd leave Galatasaray to come back to us!

With him being a regular in the Turkey side I'm sure a lot bigger clubs than us would want him.

I didnt think we'd be able to get him back for a minute but Id like him back. Ofcourse theres no way someone that arrogant would drop down to the third division
