Okay, fine, calling someone a rent boy these days is quite out of touch and silly, he was caught, they've punished him. I'm certain this thread will descend in to whether what he said is a crime, it's just words and what have you. Personally doesn't bother me but that's not the society we're in anymore.

I'd say it's a bit of an over reaction by the police though when they had far bigger things to worry about. To me it feels alot like it was just a quick and easy nick that will gain the ol constabulary some brownie points. I wasn't there, I didn't see it and I haven't even fully read the article but I would bet my worth that far worse things were happening amongst them when they were handing out is section 5

Pathetic world we live in when an MP can punch someones lights out and get away scot free, shout a naughty word and banned from football for three years I despair.

1 thing i dont understand is he shouted that term & then explained actually i dont know the explanation behind it.

why would you shout something, if you didnt know what it meant. its incredibly stupid, you wouldnt use the N word if you didnt know the context & hopefully he's learnt his lesson

No idea what this is about, but no doubt another play to the woke society we live in.
Just a guess like...
Click on the link (BBC). Supporter makes an offensive remark to Chelsea fans (who I suspect were also giving plenty). Not personal to any one particular fan. Plod hear it and nabbed. 3 year ban.

Not sure that getting jailed for 10 weeks, getting yourself a criminal record and ruining your career can be described as getting away ‘Scot free’.

That fella the MP punched had his hands in his pockets, that's got to be assault?

It's opened a can of worms, at the cost of his career and split opinion on weather you can or can't punch somebody in the face, it's a 50/50 split where I work saying you shouldn't / Should get prison, it's not self defence from the MP.. that's jail time in my opinion.

Is rent boy a homophobic slur? Genuinely, asking for a friend. A bloke who I went to school with ended up being a rent boy in Leeds, but denied there was owt gay about it.
It probably falls under hate speech law, as a hate crime, somebody more clued up than me can probably confirm etc..

Should he have said it, no and he does acknowledge that he was in the wrong for saying it.

But it does feel like they've tried to make an example of him and show people that they can punish you, even though worse things happen inside stadiums and online, which often go unpunished.

All those people who made death threats against Karius after that Champions League final, did any of them get appropriately punished?

My old mate got punched in the face last year and died as a result. The MP should have absolutely gone down for it

Sex workers can often, but not always, separate professional sex from personal sex.

I imagine - having never been a rent boy, honestly - it's a bit like being an actor and kissing another actor on screen and then going home and kissing your loving husband/wife.

Since January 2022, the Crown Prosecution Service has defined the "Chelsea rent boy" chant - aimed at the west London club's players and supporters - as a homophobic slur and says that anyone singing it is committing a hate crime and could face prosecution.

What if they're doing it ironically?

I'd hazard a guess that a fair few of our coke addled denizens calling Forest fans 'scab' have very little idea as to the backstory. In short, there are a lot of flock following fuckwits in football crowds.

A rather ironic post given the topic.
Why do you use words as insults when you clearly don’t understand what they mean?
I find it hard to believe "Steve" didn't know what the term meant. However, I get that it wasn't aimed at anyone personally. Must be dozens of examples at matches each and every week. Think of the poor Rotherham fans.

You know in 1984 Big Brother was the baddie, right? Not something to aspire to.

(Though this message seems to have become somewhat lost over the years :-))

“When I use a word,it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’
