The Sheffield Eagles are to hold a press conference tomorrow in which they are believed to be going to announce that all their home games are to be played at BDTBL. I dread to think what the ramifications of this could be!!, A pitch (which already very rarely wears well!) like an old cobble street!?. A resigned acceptance by supporters at the loss of the last slight glimmer of hope that we may make a return to playing (at least) some football on the ground!. The loss of any chance we had of being chosen to hold World Cup games!, even worse that this insane decision will hand those games to the piggies!. No doubt the powers-that-be at BDTBL will roll out the customary chorus', - Much needed income!, the partnership will benefit both clubs!, Wigan combine both games with no problems!, etc, etc...
The bottom line is Rotherham didn't want them churning Don Valley up!, that's why they find themselves looking for a 'new home', but it's good enough for us at The Lane!, Astounding!!!....

I think its safe to say its business over football at the lane.

Well you can hear KB now -"You cannot play it on the floor on a pitch like ours"
This, if true, will be a shocking decision. 100% against it.

Rugby League is a summer sport so relaying turf will be easier. The problem at the DVS recently was a pop concert not Rugby.

How this effects our World Cup bid ? Cant see the relevance to be honest.

Ah yes the eco friendly band U2 with their 18 million pound stage.

1, Admittedly, yes!. but Sheffield F.C. also had 'playing surface' problems during their time-share with the Eagles at Don Valley
2, Will FIFA want to take a chance on playing games on a pitch that's been doubly 'hammered' throughout the season, or any problems a newly re-layed pitch can throw up!!.
Remember this is the weird & wonderful FIFA we're talking about here!.
My opinion is this is a bad, bad move for football at BDTBL.:(

To be fair, it did hold up last season pretty well!

The idea the Rugby League is a summer sport is incorrect. It starts in February and finishes in October. Even if you assume first home game is March and last is September there's still only June and July where there is only one sport using it.

When are we having Car Boot Sales on the pitch too?

GUESTY. To be fair, it did hold up pretty well, but that was more the exception than the norm!!. It (& the groundsmen) may prove me wrong, though history tells me not to put money on it doing so!!.

Have to disagree at someone saying Wigans pitch holds up pretty well with both football and rugby played there. Wigan fans are ALWAYS complaining about the rugby tearing up the pitch and only just 2 or 3 seasons ago their pitch was one of the worse seen for many a year according to skysports.

This decision by the blades is unsurprising though. How much rent do we give Sheffield fc for playing our reserve games on their pitch? Didnt we do this to alleviate stress on our pitch? Bizarre and clueless decision in my eyes.

Would love to see the Eagles at the lane.

We don't use the grass anyway so what is the problem??

Absolutely fucking ridiculous decision.

Bramall Lane, the oldest football ground in the world. The home of Sheffield United, the first United in the world. All the history of this great stadium where one club, and only one club, resides. Bramall Lane is Sheffield United and Sheffield United is Bramall Lane. Its one thing that should never change. It's our ground and we should be proud that its our own. So what do we do? Decide to rent it out to a bunch of fucking egg chasers. Fuck em, if they can't play at Don Valley then let them find somewhere else. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to let a rugby team have our very own stadium?! Does this mean we're going to have Sheffield Eagles badges plastered all over the stadium now? Better fucking not be.

Renting Bramall Lane out to a rugby team is like The Queen opening Buckingham Palace as a hotel whilst still living in it herself. Its our home, no-one elses, and thats the way it should always, always be.

Not happy with this at all.

Complete and utter fucking joke.

That's possibly what (well similar to) the Cricket team said when United (The football team we all love) were formed.

I also disagree, my point being this, - Before the end of the week someone from BDTBL will make that very (stupid) statement. You can almost hear it being written into the clubs 'announcement' now!.

Shoes off in the car park if the eagles come to the lane?? Egg chasers sat in our seats????

Bramall Lane has always been a multi-event sports arena. The need to cover running costs ensured that. That's why Yorkshire CCC were founded, to ensure a steady stream of income from regular games and of course the club decided to form the football section in 1889 precisely because the 1889 FA Cup semi-final pulled in record receipts & the ground committee wanted some of that week in week out.

In fact BDTBL was probably the country's first real multi-use sports arena and when the club became a limited company in 1899 it's stated objectives were ..

"To promote and practice the play of cricket, football, lacrosse, lawn tennis, bowls, bicycling and tricycling, running, jumping, physical training, and the development of the human frame, and other athletic sports, games and exercises of every description, and any other game, pastime, sport, recreation, amusement or entertainment, but not pigeon shooting, rabbit coursing, or racing for money."

Bramall Lane has probably hosted more different sports and events than any other ground in the country. It's only in recent history, since the early seventies when the cricket club was kicked out that it has been predominantly a football stadium. Even then it's still hosted one-off events, boxing, rugby and that strange floodlit cricket thing in the eighties with the weird rules (was that something to do with Kerry Packer?) as well as concerts.

So all in all if the Eagles do play at the Lane, and I hope they do, it's just another chapter in the ground's long and illustrious multi-sporting history.

Yeah and they eventually moved from the lane.

Perhaps that might happen to us eventually.

Not so. We are the oldest, not the first.
Well, the club was first founded in 1854 as the Sheffield United Cricket Club so in that respect we are the first sports team to call itself 'United' however there were other footballing Uniteds prior to the football section being added in 1889.

To a degree, I agree with what you say - BUT (and it is a big but) Sheffield has a multi purpose venue. It is called the Don Valley Stadium. The Millers are only there short term anyway.
Bramall Lane is a Football Stadium, and a very good one at that.
Are we going to invest in new technology and spend hundreds of thousands of pounds in laying a new pitch containing the strange mix of synthetic and natural grass as others have done ? One off games are not so bad but not regular matches on it.
We will end up with a pitch like Wigan's. There fans are always moaning about the state their pitch is in.
I am 100% against it and I cannot watch rugby either.
What next - Monster Trucks !
We struggle to play it on the deck at the best of times. What hope have we got in the future of seeing the 'beautiful game' return to BDTBL

thats it i fucking quit
im not giving any more of my hard earned cash to some one just for them to rip the heart out of the club i love.
im going for a walk i may be some time
