So the annual Price of Football survey has been released, and United come out of it looking pretty good.

There's other information on there too, but we're cheaper than the league average on everything apart from the pies, which are 8p dearer than average.

You could argue that we were in league one last year so may have scored more, but if Leon keeps up we'll soon be back down towards a fiver a goal.

As someone who isn't on loads of money, I'm more than happy at the moment with what I put in and what I get out, don't eat the pies so can't comment on those, but I'm happy with everything else, some of the Adidas clobber is a bit dear but that's out of the clubs control really.

Can't be ignored either that we share a city and a league with another club too and we're much better value than them lot.

"Sheff Weds" finally living up to their "massive" title, unfortunately for the fans it describes the ticket prices. :D

I take the piss but I do have some sympathy. It's fucking outrageous that Fulham (one of the richest boroughs of London) are amongst the cheapest, while the prices in a northern, working class city are almost double. That's some shameful shit from the owner.

Worth noting too that they've got the Wendy kit down at £49 and it's not, it's £59. It's just on sale at the moment, goes up to full price in a few days I think (just checked - 30th November).

I can't be arsed to find out for sure but I bet they're one of if not the most expensive team outside of London to support, and there are a lot of those teams in the Premier League.

Costs a lot to put your name everywhere. All those seats needed repainting.

2/3’s of young fans say travel costs are prohibitive. Maybe if they didn’t live in London and support Man Utd travel costs would be cheaper.

Generally I'm quite forgiving for remote supporters, you don't know what's happening all the time, if there's a genuine connection, my family could have all buggered off to Pontypridd at one point, but my Dad and Granddad would have still made sure I was a Unitedite I'm sure even if we did, but you do have to wonder how many have that family connection, or birth connection, and how many just pick a team that's winning when they're young - that's not to say they aren't as passionate about said team in the end, but it does mean they've isolated themselves.

As for cost of travel, I think £4.30 is pretty harsh when I get on the tram so I can see where they're coming from haha

Pyro doesn't come cheap nowadays....

Joking aside, it would be interesting to see the distance people are travelling to support their team.

We're very fortunate. I remember that we had the cheapest season ticket prices of all 20 sides in our last Premier League season, and when we went down to the Championship the following year, I think we were the third cheapest of the 24. Incredible, really.

I know Mr McCabe gets some stick, but stuff like this is absolutely fabulous and he should take some of the credit I think.

I have sympathy with people who support a local team then move away like some of the posters on here, but they aren’t these ‘young supporters’ who supported Man Utd despite living in Brighton when they have a football team locally they could follow. To me they shouldn’t even be asked their opinion in these surveys.

I disagree, it will always baffle me why people support a team at the other end of the country when they don't have a link to that team, other than "they're good" or their mum/ dad/ aunt/ uncle supported them because they were good. They're still supporters of that team, so they should be surveyed to get a true picture.

You can also look to those local teams and what they're doing to attract young fans. Pig fans have said in the past that United have boosted their attendances through 'quid a kid' offers, but these are the future of our club. We do this to get young fans interested in the club and it works. But it only works long term when these kids reach adulthood and can afford to go to games. If as young working Blade I was having to pay nearly GBP 500 for a season ticket at United I just wouldn't have gone. The fact that we charge under 300 for our cheapest is a real plus point for the club. Though they can always do more

This is where the definition of a ‘supporter’ is called into question. If they have no intention of ever going to a match and use transport as an excuse then they should ‘support’ another team.

Many folk are using this thread to have a dig at Wednesday’s pricing policy but are overlooking one important point....despite the high prices the fans are still turning up in numbers. Their season ticket sales are greater than ours and the match day gates are similar or slightly higher at present.

So it’s a more profitable way to run that business in the short term, and us, by comparison, are throwing money down the drain by not charging more.

If our fairer pricing policy leads to more folk coming through the turnstile in future then great! But at the moment it looks like there’s a good case to support a higher pricing policy.

There is a theory to support this, the price elasticity of demand, football is to an extent inelastic as a decision to watch a team can be made with the heart and not the wallet. There is a tipping point and I believe that Blades are more discerning than Pigs and that our prices are more elastic than theirs as a result.

People also say a lot of their fans are on the last year of a three year season ticket deal. If true, maybe next year will be a fairer indication. We also shouldn’t forget they have their best side for a decade, are avowedly after promotion and have a multimillion pound squad.

We’re operating differently but better thanks to CW.

Their season ticket sales and match day attendances may well be disguised by their three year season ticket promotion they introduced a number of years ago.

I'm sure that three year deal comes to a close at the end of this season, Mr Chansiri doesn't seem to be budging on his charging high prices policy so it will be interesting to see what direction they will take for next season particularly if they are still residing in the Championship.

Another example is when they put a headline up like “City duo sign new long term deals” click the link and it’s Manchester City women’s. Click bait! I don’t think it’s just me who finds it irritating. :)
Yeah this is exactly the point.

Was listening to Radio 5 last week and they were talking about England trailing to Australia in the Ashes. I'd had a busy few weeks, but was sure we hadn't even started yet... Sure enough it was Womens Cricket.

Now i'm all for equality and promoting womens sport, but for the BBC to ram this down the ears of listeners when the match was attended by 2,800 spectators, you have to question the value of these updates when perhaps other news and sport topics were available with a higher level of interest than this

My thoughts too didn't they get a ST for 3 years at the old price. It will be interesting to see how far their gates plummet when asked to pay more than some Premiership clubs for another season in the Championship. Old Dolphin killer is really screwing every penny out of the mugs from south Barnsley. :D:D:D and for what pissing money away on player wages to the likes of Forest fairy who doesn't want to play until just before the transfer window so he can then kick off for another raise. I predict a lot of sub 20,000 gates for the pigs next season.

Surely the key is 'in the short term'. If they don't go up, they will lose numbers, and decline sets in long term.

Hasn't Wednesday's season ticket policy already come off the rails?

This season they have let a load of end of contract players go and only recruited Boyd on a free and Van Aken as undisclosed (the way our journeyman midfielder turned him inside out at Hillsborough I reckon that must be about 20 quid)

They were really expecting to get promoted last season so this season they have had to cut back on recruitment

I think the crunch comes in January. What they do in the transfer market then will be the real marker of their intentions. If Chansiri doesn't put his hand in his pocket the rumblings of discontent will rise to a crescendo.

I notice nobody has mentioned how Ipswich and Norwich occupy 2 of the most expensive slots. How Ipswich can justify it with their negative, literally 'going nowhere' football is beyond me, not like it's an affluent area.

Norwich on the other hand....well, they're probably as dull as the pigs, if not worse.

£12.52 per match for me to watch this wonderful, proud team.

Same here as I'm on the Kop too.

As you say, 'wonderful' and what a bargain it has been this season. The last 18 months have more than made up for the previous 5 years of L1 shite.

Thank you Chris Wilder!
