Must be my wild imagination then, or Ive been fed some porkies on tinternet somewhere.

Did only the top team get promo automatically back then? as it says we finished second that year

When the football league was enlarged in 1892 did Wendy get put straight in first division and us in second? that could be what Im thinking of

Indeed. The clubs voted on admission and they got in and we narrowly failed (by 1 vote - the future Man Utd beat us to it)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1891–92_Football_League

To be fair Wednesday were playing in what was effecitively the second best league in the country (The Football Alliance) whilst we were playing in the must less prestigious Northern League.

120 years actually :)

You're a lawyer so I will let you off but .....

1893 was definitely in the 19th century
The last time we won anything (of any real value) was 1925 in the 20th Century
We are now in the 21st century.

See ? We last won a play off final .......................................

TWO FUCKING CENTURIES AGO !

Even you have to admit the logic is irrefutable? It might be 120 years elapsed but it is two centuries ago

Pah! - Who am I kidding? - No doubt you will argue the toss to the next century - probably from beyond the grave where you and Walthy will still be going at it left, right - but no centre.

Don't start semantic arguments with me :-)

You might validly say "we last won something in the last century" or "we last won a play off in the last century but one", but to say we did something "two fucking centuries ago" is saying we did it 200 years ago.

Would you say Warnock was appointed as manager "two fucking decades ago" when he was appointed in 1999.

Yep :)

It still feels like two effing centuries ago

IF... Donny draw at home, Bournemouth continue their crazy run and we get a 2 wins and a draw (Pompy, Brenford and Crewe) it will go to the final game with 4 teams all able to get auto (Brentford). Other variables also give this situation so come the 26th its going to be a sleepless night!

and 2 of them playing each other.

Dont forget Yeovil, they could be in the mix too...

I did it without updating until the end and I got us winning the league.

Can't see it happening, but basically I had Bournmouth and Donny drawing on the last day allowing us to win by 2 points.

A bloke I know is quite confident Bournemouth will win neither of their last two games. He still thinks Doncaster will slip up as well. It isn't me, of course. I learned my lesson last season, didn't I, Flatulent_Bob?

:)

Can't see anything other than 2 wins for Bournemouth, so unless we score some goals it could see us missing out on GD (If we win our matches). But hey in this crazy league anything could happen. We need to beat Brentford, that will sneak us above them, but also keep the pressure up on the top two.

With the scenario I stated we would be all then be on the same points (IF we win) and the top three decided on goal difference. After being sent down on on GD, surely karma will be kind ;)

Very true. Tough game at Oldham who are fighting for their life but you would fancy 6 points against Bury and then Crewe at home. Minimum that will leave them is 80 but certainly not out of it

Unless they have changed the rules to 4 points for a win, no it wont...

Portsmouth will be our stumbling block. We just need to ensure 3rd/4th place so the second leg is at home IMO.

Looking at what they have left,I can't wait to ring radio sheff if their beloved Donny Rovers don't win another game.

I definitely think they will lose at Brentford on the last day so if we win tomorrow it really will be "game on"

I did say IF

I might be clutching at straws but this is a reasonable scenario;

Donny are definately the team that we can overhaul. But the sting in the tail, (excuse the pun!) could come from Brentford or even Yeovil...

I can't see Bournemouth dropping points in their last two games but Donny struggle at home and play Notts County then have to travel to Brentford on the last day. If we can win our two in hand, (Brentford & Crewe) that will put us on 79 compared to Donnys current 81 with a better GD.

If Donny draw v Notts that puts them on 82. I think we will draw v Pompey so that would put us on 80, (presuming we go on to beat Crewe) going into the last day.

Brentford, having lost to us would be on 77, presuming they win away at Hartlepool, (easier said than done) that would put them on 80, level with us going into the last day. Yeovil have beaten Oldham and Crewe and are also on 80 but as we manage to maintain a slightly better goal average we sit third behind Donny and Bournemouth, both on 82.

A packed BDTBL watches Morgans Marvels do what they have to and beat Preston. We finish on 83 points. Bournemouth win and finish on 85. Brentford beat Donny and finish on 83, leaving Donny on 82. Yeovil win on the last day v Bury so second spot is decided by GD.....!

Then again.....!!!

Win the last 4 and we will do it. Win 3 and draw 1 and we have to hope Donny and/or Bournemouth drop points. Lose any of our last 4 and it's the play-offs for sure.

I'd forgotten about that, I would have much rather been wrong and as with last year I really hope you're right.

I had to say, I had written off Doncaster as definitely going up, but you are right. Given the goal differences involved, we will almost certainly go up if we win all 4 and Doncaster get 4 points or less from their remaining 2. In other words, if we win all 4, it will take Bournemouth and Doncaster both wining their last two AND Bournemouth outscoring us on GD to stop us going up. That could never happen....

All we need to do then is win the last 4....

That predictor knows nowt. When I've used it before it DEFINITELY had us staying in the Prem, DEFINITELY had us staying in the Championship, DEFINITELY us getting promoted last season, and for what it's worth 3rd this season. Hope it's wrong again!
